I hate censoring my paintings as much as Instagram loves to take them down. Even when self-censored (like this one) IG occasionally makes them disappear. During pregnancy most people have the added stress of being weighed at every doctor’s visit (I don’t do this in my practice) when their body may already feel like it has a mind of its own. No one needs the added stress of strangers telling them where they fit into our culture’s expectations of how pregnant people should look. None of my clients are told by strangers that they look great or perfect. It’s always “wow, you look like you’re ready to pop” or “are you sure you’re not having twins?” Or maybe even the anxiety inducing “you’re so small” that makes my petite clients feel like maybe their baby isn’t growing properly. Let me tell you a big or small appearing belly rarely correlates with a big or small baby. Most babies are just average as are most people who are gestating them.
