Alfresco lunching at @ivychelsgarden ... the food was delicious. Literally couldn’t fault any of it! To start the tempura calamari and prawns, mozzarella salad and duck salad (not pictured). Mains I got the salmon (my usual go to) and zucchini fries (look at the portion size)🤤🤤, also had some truffle fries all washed down with a glass of Lady A 🍷. The garden is beautiful, and so lovely for a nice day HOWEVER all those flowers and good food, be warned of the wasps who have no fear at all. That was the only downer, oh and the service wasn’t amazing- quite slow and a few things we asked for (extra sauce, drinks menu) just didn’t arrive. I stopped here today on the grass, for a couple of hours. Been writing, scribbling, trying to get to the bottom of things. Boiling it down to, my mind is so distracted and experiencing unwelcome longer stretches of depression. As I look at this view, I wonder what good it would do me to switch off, delete a few apps from my phone, to not reach for the adrenaline. It more often than not is followed by a deep dissatisfaction and I go deeper into the fog. So! Without being toooo dramatic, I’m gonna see how it feels to go dark for a month or two. Trying to live life before dying. This is the mantra I try my hardest to preach, but I’ve not been the best at following my own advice. For the past two years I’ve been flat out with the gin, apparel brand, consultancy and now starting out on my property development journey that I’ve not had a minute to stop. I’m up every morning at the crack of dawn and still working late at night, with weekends counting as ‘working days’ too. It was a very welcome break this week then when my gorgeous wife (we got married last week!) @mackintosh_debs took me to @crieffhydroresort for our honeymoon. We had an amazing time and made the effort to properly relax and recharge the batteries. The staff at the resort were all fantastic and really went out their way to ensure the guests had an amazing experience. It was a magical moment for us when Vasilis Papas was playing on the piano and we danced to The Ellie Badge (from Up) in the ballroom with not a care in the world, whilst other guests watched on. Sometimes you’ve just got to say ‘so what’ and live life. No sabía a quién había pertenecido pero había algo fascinante, casi hipnótico, en esa centenaria mansión abandonada de amplios ventanales y elaboradas rejas. Nunca pude olvidarla y cada vez que la veía estaba más deteriorada. . 🕵️Pasaron unos 15 años, me interesé por la ciudad que perdimos y la que aún está pero peligra, y empecé a colaborar con @bastadedemolerba. Entonces mi mente volvió a esta casa… ¿Qué se podría hacer por ella? Podíamos empezar por dar a conocer su historia... . 👨🏻Se dice que Francisco Beiró construyó la casa con sus propias manos alrededor de 1910. De la quinta original, se conserva la casa principal, ubicada en un jardín que sobrevivió al loteo y demolición de otros edificios en 1960. La casa perteneció a sus descendientes hasta fines de 2007, cuando fue vendida a una inmobiliaria. . 🏛Beiró fue un político argentino, militante de la Unión Cívica Radical y diputado nacional. Ocupó varios cargos hasta que formó parte de la fórmula Yrigoyen-Beiró que ganó las elecciones en 1928, aunque falleció poco antes de asumir el cargo de vicepresidente. Además, es recordado como un gran impulsor del progreso de Villa Devoto, haciendo empedrar calles, colocando el alumbrado público, etc. Es por eso que una de las arterias principales del barrio lleva su nombre. . 💸En 2008 se publica en el Boletín Oficial la ley que cataloga al inmueble con nivel de protección estructural (Ley N° 2858) y se presentan proyectos para expropiarla en 2009 y 2011. Si bien se aprueban en la Comisión de Cultura, se rechazan en la de Finanzas. . 💪Hace un par de meses comenzamos a difundir el estado de la casa y gracias al apoyo de vecinos, comuneros y legisladores, se presentó un nuevo proyecto para salvarla y convertirla en museo y centro cultural. “The RiverWalk is an outdoor 15-mile linear park that hugs the banks of the Chattahoochee River. For centuries, the Chattahoochee River has flowed from the mountains of North Georgia to the oyster beds of the Florida Panhandle. The relationship between Columbus and the Chattahoochee predates written history. Spanish explorers told about the falls nearby. The Indians nations most extensive trading center was here. Then, in 1828, state legislation set aside 1,200 acres for the town that became Columbus. Steam boats soon were unloading cotton and other products at her busy pier. Romantic ballads were written by passengers who sailed on her lazy paddle-wheelers. Commerce depended on the river with the arrival of the railroad and other means of transportation. More recently, the Chattahoochee became a Mecca for recreation. Lakes created from its lineup of dams attract fishermen from around the world and on weekends the water is filled with boats and skiers. So it was natural for Columbus to come back to the river in 1992. Four years later, that first stretch of riverfront trail was extended to the main post of Fort Benning, giving those who travel on two feet or two wheels a blend of cityscapes and untouched wildlife. We have also decided to help the American Red Cross in their effort to help families affected by the wild fire disaster that has destroyed the west coast. In order to make your precious help more fun, we have installed a few dip jars inside the restaurant and we have dedicated one table for an ongoing backgammon tournament that will run till Thanksgiving. something exciting happened today...mini (but not so mini) Chatelaine arrived...it’s an absolute work of art and took the maker @lee_robinson_model_maker over 200 hours to design and create. He is an absolute master of his craft and makes models of all sorts so if you would like a model of your home then give him a shout! I’m currently working out where we will house this as it’s pretty enormous...eventually it will be housed behind a secret bookshelf but more of that another time! It will take me years and years to decorate and furnish it and it’s most definitely a lifetime project. It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the sudden death of our beloved Paul Dillane on June 11, 2020. Paul was recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and had overcome great physical pain and suffering. As he continued to recover for weeks to come, the lasting effects of the virus continued to make it difficult to return to normal life. Paul was the very essence of compassion, hard work, and selflessness. He worked hard doing what he loved every day. Those who love him ache with his passing and we ask you to please keep them in your prayers. Paul has gone home now, guided by his faith and the light of those he has loved. He was a devoted husband and father who will be remembered by his bright smile and his big hugs. His positivity and vibrant energy lit up the room wherever he entered. Robert Hooke was #onthisday in 1635 in Freshwater, Isle of Wright. Hooke was a Surveyor to the City of London and, in partnership with Sir Christopher Wren, created the design of The Monument, which took six years to be completed, from 1671 to 1677. Hooke worked with Wren on the design of the Royal Observatory Greenwich, Montagu House in Bloomsbury, and the Bethlem Royal Hospital. They were keen astronomers, which is why The Monument was built to also serve as a Zenith telescope. 🔭 Hooke died on 3 March 1703.
