Myself and my comrades in @oginalii have signed to an independent label based out of California/Mexico called @devilinthewoodsmx and I am very excited to embark on this next step in our journey. I hate taking pictures, but I wanted to make a post to say thanks to everyone who’s been sharing my recent releases. It’s a weird thing cause I feel very blessed to do what I love everyday and to work with artists on their journey. But, I have a tendency to over extend and spread myself thin. Lately, I’ve been trying to focus on my own journey and reevaluate what matters to me and spending my time on projects that feed my soul. I’ve been working on some records for myself and others that I’m excited to share in the coming months. I also built my own studio space (more on that later), and have felt a much needed resurgence in my ability to be engaged and present in the work. Hey fam, We just wanted to update you on the upcoming ‘Big Grief’ tour. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in place nationwide and border closures, we have had to make some tough decisions. Our Queensland shows will still go ahead, however they will now be more intimate shows due to capacity restrictions. Tickets purchased for the shows on the 29th October at The Tivoli and 30th October at Sol Bar will be valid for these new shows. Keep an eye on your email inboxes. Ticketing outlets will be in touch very soon with further information. If you hadn’t gotten a ticket for the Tivoli yet, we have added an additional show on Friday 23rd October. The link to which is in our bio. If you are an existing Tivoli ticket holder and aren’t able to attend any of the new dates, refunds will be available until Thursday 24 September. As for the rest of the country, it is with a heavy heart that we announce that we must cancel all interstate shows. Please get in touch with your point of purchase for a full refund. We are so saddened that we can’t bring the Big Grief tour to you. We wanted nothing more than to be back on stage, yelling and crying with you all. Over the last 7 years TED has played such a colossal and vital role in inspiring and informing my ever evolving journey. This year’s Tedx event in Sydney at iconic Maritime Museum is revolving all around climate change; expressing positively some potential solutions in this dark and dire reality. We had so much fun touring Nippon Fish Farm. The owner, Mr. Pay was so enthusiastic! The most wholesome guy ever :) He spent hours showing us around. Swipe right 👉 to see a preview and his massive trophy collection! 🐐🏆 I was most impressed though by his ability as an entrepreneur to adapt and persevere through challenges like land resettlement. Having to pick up and move your farm 6 times is no joke. He also learned how to introduce prawn, perch and aquaponics into his business model when koi farming slowed down. Despite these set backs he became very successful and remains so so happy! His positive energy is infectious! Such an important reminder that material objects like trophies or money will not define your success. Mr. Pay is a clear example that you are truly a winner when you love what you do ❣ #goodtalk P.S. In early August, we trekked out to the desert and shot the “Life Is a Bore” music video in 110+ degree heat. With high hopes and hot heads, we finished filming in just under 7 hours. Even though we could’ve grilled a steak on the pavement, we stuck it out and watched the sun simmer down below the horizon as we sped out of the sands and back through the canyon. Last month I learnt React during the Microsoft OneWeek Hackathon and now Ive just checked in my first #React & #TypeScript PR into the code base. 👩💻🎉 Many of you followed along with my daily updates of learning using my @Udemy course and coding my deliverable, so saw the highs and lows of this first part of my React journey. Its been really refreshing to learn something new, build skills on the job, and create something pretty cool! ⠀ ⠀ What helped me upskill so quickly:⠀ ⠀ 1️⃣ Built a foundation of knowledge by following along through an online course. I did the React - The Complete Guide by Maximilian Schwartzmuller course on Udemy⠀ ⠀ 2️⃣ Dove into the real code base to see how a proper production app is set up and how other examples accomplished something⠀ ⠀ 3️⃣ Learnt by doing! Started building something and connecting the puzzle pieces. Code makes so much more sense when you can get your hands on it⠀ ⠀ 4️⃣ Built up my code piece by piece. This helps avoid being overwhelmed and keeps you focused ⠀ ⠀ 5️⃣ Used the resources at my disposal. Ask questions, read documentation, watch tech talks⠀ ⠀ 6️⃣ Reminded myself that the problems and bugs are where most of the learning happens. I just watched my dear friend SLAY a 90 minute set, and I could even smell the ocean breeze from where I was sitting. And yes, this post comes after drinking one extra drink than I meant to, but I just have to say something: The arts are not dead. They are actually more inspiring. They are a product of hard work, hope and grace. We think because nothing is happening in major cities that creativity is shut down elsewhere but that’s just not true. I believe this downtime has given artists chances to ask themselves, what matters more: The joy or the consistency? I am starting to believe if we just chase the spark and joy in our lives, the art will be bigger, bolder and better. We might have to wait, we might have to hold other jobs, but that authenticity is worth it. There is no price on that. Nothing can take the artist out of you. About a month ago I was lucky enough to be a part of the crew for “Losing A Best Friend”, a documentary about the journey and incredible legacy of Sean Dolan...directed by his sons Ethan and Grayson. Having to face the task of grieving in an honest and vulnerable way is incredibly difficult, but having to do that while directing a feature-length documentary seems almost unfathomable. The way E and Gray honored their father was not only meaningful and moving, but so damn authentic. Their goal with this documentary was to selflessly help others, and it’s so obvious that they achieved that. Proud would be an understatement. As for the rest of the crew - Pierson and Kyle were absolute rockstars with the monthlong edit, Ryan was integral on so many important decisions, Sterling was the backbone behind everything running smoothly, Dylan managed audio as perfectly as possible, Eric allowed everyone to feel safe at all times, and Kristina was a constant source of positivity. Immensely grateful to be a part of this group.
