Day 7: The southest point of Europe & how coincidence makes the best decisions - as today hurricane finally reached the West coast, my trips were canceled one after another and I was offered the only place to which boats were still sailing to. So I decided to end the adventure part of my trip in the gate to Egypt, an island in Lybian sea. As my trip to Greece wasnt only about beaches but as well about my mental cleaning, meditation and reaching inner balance, this was the best place to dispose of all negative and let the sea take it to Africa, while I turned into a sea turtle and snorkled for full 3 hours. It wasnt the turquoise waters that dragged me in, but fossils that cover bottom of this shore. The water salanity is same as in a Dead sea, so you can enjoy floating experience to make you forget your physical existence and let you be just a soul for a bit. That was my highlight but actually that island is famous for its unique cedre forest that isnt to be seen nowhere else. The last day was as awesome as it could get. Un’estate che si riaccende con il torrido dei suoi 36 gradi. Un luglio che riveste il Salento della sua natura più profonda e autentica, dove il canto ininterrotto delle cicale ci accompagna fino a sera. There are not enough words in the world to express the way I feel right now. DEBT FREE, BABY!! Over the last ten years I accrued a pretty hefty amount of debt as a result of injuries, starting a business, and being unable to tell myself no whenever there was an opportunity to travel. Along the way I also made matters worse by living off my credit cards whenever money got low and refusing to adjust my lifestyle when my bank account said I needed to. Fast forward to this spring and having a lot of time to think long and hard about how that debt was affecting my life and my future. I decided to try to pay it all off in one Summer. I knew it was a lofty goal but I figured even if I tried and failed it would still put me in a better position. I picked up a third summer job, did odd jobs whenever the opportunity arose, cashed in change, sold stuff, drove for the Roadie app, said no to a lot of fun things and said yes to every shift anyone ever asked me to cover. I worked 7 days a week, a ton of doubles, and took 3 days off all summer but in the end I paid off all of my (almost 25k) in debt. Zero regrets on any of the travel that was charged over the years, those experiences were priceless. But all the coffees, happy hours and subscription boxes, those I could have skipped. 🤦♀️ If anyone out there is struggling with debt and wants to talk about it, let me know. I’m no financial expert but I’ve been there and know it can feel really overwhelming. ❤️ Now, off to New Jersey for some fam time and some R&R. There is an injured juvenile white shark in our local waters and I went out with Harry Rabin @reef.guardians and Andi & Carlos @themalibuartist to go look for it and to get some better documentation of what is obviously a prop injury. Unfortunately we did not find the injured shark but we did see 2out of the 6 juvenile white sharks with fishing lures stuck in them. In the video, what we thought at first was a tag, turned out to be a torpedo fishing lure. Research done in other parts of the world on sharks with fishing hooks have documented that some hooks can stay in place for years and have serious health consequences. As we research more about the behavior of white sharks, we need to learn all that we can to best share the ocean with these beautiful wild, apex animals. Misunderstood but vital, white sharks are some of the most feared animals in the ocean. (Cows kill more people) Many global shark populations are in steep decline because of overfishing, entanglement and habitat degradation. But fortunately some populations are now fully protected and numbers are slowly increasing, including white sharks off of S. CA. Our local waters are considered nurseries for juvenile white sharks. These young white sharks play an important role in keeping fish and stingray populations healthy. Because sharks directly or indirectly affect all levels of the marine food web, they help to maintain structure in healthy ocean ecosystems. Without sharks, our oceans would be radically different.
