Trigger Warning ⚠️ Infant Loss This is Sally and Lucia Crinis, 12 months ago the heavens opened up, Lucia grew her wings and became an angel, the true angel she always was. How do you help a grieving mother? How do you help a grieving family? Not long after Lucia passed, a friend of Sally’s said he was going to run the Melbourne Marathon in Lucia’s honour. The idea spread around very quickly and “Lucia’s Angel’s” was born. There were over 300 of us that ran for Lucia and her family that day. Her strong, inspirational and amazing mum Sally and her twin sister Suzy ran the full 42.2km. This is why I started running, this was the only way I felt I could help, in a heartbreaking time when there is literally nothing you can do to help ease the pain. So I ran. Every time now I am out running I think of Sally and I often can feel Lucia, a beam of sunshine will hit my face or the warmth on my back and I know she’s helping me. I have been through some physical pain and emotional pain but the pain that Sally and her family experience is something I can’t comprehend. If I feel pain when I’m running, I think of Sally’s heartbreak and that drives me to keep going and I know Lucia is there helping me along the way. Thank you Lucia for changing my life more that your little soul could ever imagine. You have had such an impact on me and you are always in my heart. Sally you are stronger than you think and continue to inspire me everyday. Time is a strange thing. The past year has been both the longest and shortest of my life. I can so vividly picture and feel sitting with you and mom in the hospital as if I were there just an hour ago. I can hear the sound of baseball on TV in the background, the beeps of machines monitoring you and the drips of IVs. I can smell the sterile air blown around by the fans and the scent of lilies to brighten the room. I can see the Life Flight helicopters that would fly in and out from your window and the beautiful rolling hills outside mom’s. I can still taste the lunch I would eat from the cafeteria and the coffee I would sip walking from mom’s room to yours. Although those three weeks were some of the most difficult I have ever lived through - apart from those that followed without you - in a weird way, I want to go back to them. Back to that little bubble where all I did was sit with you and mom. Talk to you. Listen to you. Care for you. Hold your hand. Kiss your forehead. Tell you how much I love you. Every single day. As I think of you today, I remember asking you what music you wanted me to play for you in that hospital room just before moving to hospice. You wanted Glenn Yarbrough - one of your favorites. But you specifically requested one song - “Time To Move On.” And it gives me chills now to listen to it. Time is a strange thing. O amamentar, o colo sem fim, as infinitas trocas de fraldas, e até acudir choro no meio da noite (esse eu sei que parece que não tem fim, mas te garanto que sim). É temporário ficar o dia todo atrás de um bebê que está começando a andar e também é temporário qualquer dificuldade com sono, alimentação ou educação. Só que também é temporário a delicia de sentir o bebê mexer dentro da barriga, o cheirinho que eles têm, a boquinha banguela e o olhar e a mãozinha segurando a sua enquanto você o alimenta. Também é temporário ele caber perfeitamente nos seus braços e as dobrinhas deliciosas naquele mini corpo. É temporário as gargalhadas que ele dá para as suas gracinhas mais sem graças e a vozinha nas primeiras palavras. Eu sei, eu sei que às vezes, digo, muitas vezes bate um desespero absurdo. Parece que não tem fim. Sei bem como é, já senti exatamente assim e hora ou outra ainda sinto. Mas se eu posso te dar um conselho, o maior de todos é: viva o momento presente. Saiba dar risada do caos, e chorar quando precisar. Esbraveje se achar necessário, mas escancare o coração para os detalhes simples que fatalmente ficarão para trás. Viva o aqui, o agora. Viva porque é finito. O passado só se transforma em boas lembranças quando vivemos o presente sem pensar no futuro. Viva hoje, de coração PRESENTE, com a dificuldade que for. Together we have come up with the 3 most important points. We will be posting one point each day for the next 3 days and would love to hear any feedback or questions you may have! _ 🔑Key Point number 1: In pregnancy your immune system is suppressed! Your risk of COVID as well as getting other common viruses including the flu is higher! Today we had our 1st prenatal visit with our chosen midwife for our home birth and it was such a different amazing experience 💕 @midwifecourtney is knowledgeable, a good listener and so calming. During our 90 minute consultation we talked about my medical history, past pregnancies, nutrition, placenta encapsulation and everything baby. Next week I have the dreaded glucose test and I was surprised to find out that @midwifecourtney offers a healthier alternative without the chemical food dyes. Manny was able to hear the babies heart beat for the first time. During this pregnancy he’s had to wait in the car outside due to COVID-19 policies at Scripps. I shed a couple happy tears because I was so happy that he was there because in the past he’s never missed prenatal appointments in any of our pregnancies. This appointment confirmed my decision and I’m so happy that we are choosing a home birth. Conheça a história da Shantala - técnica milenar de massagem em bebês: Foi andando pelas ruas da periferia de Calcutá, na Índia, na década de 70 que o médico francês, Frédéric Leboyer, foi surpreendido por uma cena inusitada: uma mulher massageando o seu bebê. O obstetra ficou tão maravilhado com os movimentos lentos e ritmados feitos pela mãe e, com o deleite do pequeno, que decidiu abordá-la para saber mais. A indiana, que se chamava Shantala, estranhou o interesse de Leboyer na massagem, já que se tratava de um costume antigo, ensinado pelas mães às filhas. Mas, passado o estranhamento inicial, concordou em ser fotografada e compartilhou a técnica com ele. Encantado com a massagem, Leboyer passou um tempo estudando os efeitos da técnica nos bebês. A indução do parto já estava agendada, como na gestação anterior. Mas dessa vez ela escolheu tentar o descolamento de membranas (uma opção menos invasiva que pode ajudar a induzir o trabalho de parto) alguns dias antes de internar para a indução e... bingo! Entrou em trabalho de parto espontaneamente (sem medicações) e pariu sua filha naturalmente, cercada de pessoas e profissionais que ela confiava, do jeito que ela tanto desejou durante toda a gestação! Foi mágico, como todo parto e nascimento deveria ser! E até hoje, mesmo com quase 10 anos atuando como Doula, ainda não encontrei nenhuma palavra que consiga descrever a potência de momentos como esse.
