So much loss this week. I am profoundly saddened by the loss of my friend and mentor Lewis Butler. From our early interactions through @sfshowcase to our current collaboration - Lewis was always so kind and generous with his time with me. I was inspired by his easy way with words, with people and of course with drawings. His knowledge of architectural history was deep and rich and his classical references informed his modern buildings. He was ecstatic about the library which we are currently collaborating on - loved that our clients were bibliophiles and referred to the space as the Henry Higgins library. On our team call last night we promised to raise a glass to Lewis when this beautiful space is complete next year. My thoughts are with his family, @gflaim and the entire @butlerarmsden_architects team - @anyoninteriordesign on Instagram

Advertised with the slogan “For The Few Who Own The Finest”, the Facel Vega was the perfect blend of Detroit inspired French style and American muscle. Exclusive, much admired, and staggeringly expensive, the HK500 was powered by a 6.3 Litre Chrysler V8 and was capable of 147mph and 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, great figures not just for the era but also for such a large and luxurious car. Loved by Royalty and the Hollywood Glitterati (prominent owners included the Shah of Persia, King Hassan of Morocco, Tony Curtis, Dean Martin, Pablo Picasso and Frank Sinatra) the late and irreplaceable Stirling Moss used to drive his between European races rather than fly. Sadly Facel Vega lost money on pretty much every car they made, and the factory closed its doors for the last time in 1964. This fabulous example is seen here at the 2020 Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace two weekends ago. Jim Jacobs is my longest living friend, I gotta say. We go back a long ways & through many an adventure. It all started when I arrived at Jims house in the Massachusetts Berkshires tucked away on a 100-acre mountainside of white birches outside of Great Barrington, & here is where our friendship takes off & has never ceased. Weve been through thick & thin together. Too much to recount in the short space here. Jim has been continually supportive of my work & always looked after my welfare. He invited me to house-sit many a time wch provided the solitude I needed for reading & writing & for my photography. In 1971, Jim & I became deeply involved in the teachings of Don Juan/Carlos Castenada. We were a sight for sore eyes all in white, if you can imagine that! Ha-ha. How we arrived in London is beyond me now; but we did some crazy shit like purchasing a restored 1939 white Bentley convertible wch made us more mobile when we visited with Alexis & Luisa de la Falaise at their pony farm in South Wales, where we slept under 4 layers of patch quilts to stave off the bitter cold. I became their barnyard photographer. Then it was off to Paris in an all-day rain with only one windshield wiper working when we arrived at Café Flore & where I photographed Jim with our Bentley, winter 1972. Many happy roads & journeys, then as now for us. Jim has since evolved into one of the leading independent curators of modern art. Weve come a long way. Chevy Station Wagon (2+2a-i) 🆒🔝🆒 ========================= (1952,Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Station Wagon. The short story – extracts: Until 1949, many Chevy station wagon bodies were constructed with wood on doors & side trims. But in 1950 they launched an all steel Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Station Wagon (as in photo, though it’s a MY 1952). At a glance the 1949 Chevy wood bodied and the 1950 steel bodied wagons looked identical,since the steel bodied version had the former wooden areas finished in a “wood lookalike” painting. By ‘50,the wood bodied wagon was gone, but the public had accepted that the Chevy Styleline Deluxe Station Wagon now was steel, though being a “Woodie lookalike”. This all steel body station wagon was produced from 1950-52 (after 1952 it was renamed to “The Two-Ten” or “210”). And now ... a little background info on the body style: Station Wagon or Estate car – 2 names for the same type of car🤓 Both are words for the body style variant of a sedan with its roof extended rearward (therefore sometimes nicknamed ”Longroof”) over a shared passenger/cargo volume with access at the back via a third or fifth door (the liftgate or tailgate),instead of just a trunk lid. The body style transforms a standard three-box design into a two-box design, to include an A, B, and C-pillar, as well as a D-pillar. Station wagons can most often flexibly reconfigure their interior volume via fold-down rear seats to prioritize passenger and/or cargo volume. The two different words reflect the common names used respectively in American, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian English, where it’s called “STATION WAGON” (or just “WAGON”) and with “ESTATE” being the common word used in the rest of the English-speaking world. Both names harken to the car’s role as a shuttle, with storage space for baggage, between country estates and train stations. In Germany (and many other countries) the name “KOMBI” is commonly used (the German abbreviation of “Kombinationswagen” aka Combination Car in English). I was saddened to hear this week of the liquidation of Bristol Cars Ltd. When the last owners took over in 2011 they launched a rebranding exercise, with adverts to promote the brand while they developed a new car, and I was lucky enough to be asked to take photographs for them. As a long term owner of a Bristol car, this was scarcely work! This gorgeous Bristol 405D drophead was the first shoot we did together, at crack of dawn on a summer’s morn in central London. 1980 KV Mini 1. The tiresome workers of Panda Express, nefarious villains of mornings long since past, had taken me against my will to the Land of Great Sorrows. Instead of peace, I had only found war. Confusion regarding the texture of water chestnuts led to a simple disagreement, which I was forced to escalate into physical violence. There was no jury to judge my actions as I washed the hatred from their souls. Despite this, feelings of guilt overwhelmed my mind as I perpetuated the costs of long term furniture rentals. A toilet of my own was not to be, I must pay monthly if I wish to pee. The badgers in the distance laugh at my misfortune as I curse them for spreading their waste freely all over the earth. They know not the truths withheld by the ancient text known as Krush Groove, so I was forced to bestow mercy for their ignorance as I sauntered to a forgotten liquor store.
