La ginebra se originó en Amsterdam, Holanda. Se cree que un boticario muy famoso en el siglo XVII la elaboraba como elixir medicinal para tratar afecciones estomacales y respiratorias El preparado consistía en macerar bayas de enebro en un destilado de granos (centeno, cebada o maíz) Las propiedades medicinales del enebro eran muy apreciadas y, al parecer, se potenciaban con el destilado. Debe su nombre al vocablo holandés «jenever»,que significa enebro Desde entonces, la ginebra se popularizó no sólo en Holanda sino que llegó a Inglaterra ya como bebida espirituosa, no medicinal Hasta la actualidad se prepara a partir de la destilación de los cereales mencionados anteriormente Luego, este aguardiente se mezcla con bayas de enebro y algunas otras especias como anís, cardamomo, hinojo o cáscara de naranja Cada marca tiene su receta secreta para su elaboración. Algunas le añaden jarabe al finalizar el proceso, de manera que el producto tenga ese apreciado ataque dulce ✅La ginebra y sus tipos 🔸Genever – Jenever: De origen Holandés. Se elabora, mínimo, con 30% de destilado de cebada y puede aromatizarse con hierbas, además de enebro 🔸Corenwyn: Es una Jenever elaborada a partir de tres partes iguales de centeno, cebada y maíz. Puede macerarse con otros frutos, además del enebro 🔸London Dry Gin: Es la ginebra típica londinense. Elaborada a partir de cebada malteada, maíz y centeno. De ello se obtiene un alcohol muy rectificado hasta una tercera destilación con las bayas de enebro 🔸Plymouth Gin: Elaborada al mismo estilo de la London, sólo que con denominación de origen de Plymouth, Inglaterra. Más espesa y aromática que la London Gin 🔸Sloe Gin: Elaborada al mismo estilo que la London Gin, aunque su maceración se realiza con endrinas y otros frutos 🔸Steinhager – Walchlder: De origen alemán.
