The algorithm says this kind of picture gets your attention. So here goes... . By now we all know about the hideous act of violence & racism against Jacob Blake in Kenosha. Shot in the back by a patrol officer, Mr. Blake is in ICU fighting for his life. Jacob Blake wasn’t perfect. He doesn’t have to be for us to be outraged at another black body assaulted by a white police officer. Kenosha is 87% white and less than 8% black with an over 40% unemployment rate for black men. The incarceration rate in Kenosha for black men is TWELVE times that of white men. It must be time for action, for us to address at the highest levels the inequity, the poverty, the turning of a blind eye, the erasure of the past atrocities, the inherent bias’, the racism, the privilege & the injustice that plague our society and cost black people their lives. . The news & law enforcement is currently glorifying the Kenosha shooter, the Kenosha TERRORIST because he is a “disillusioned” 17 year old “kid” when Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown etc do not get this soft treatment or compassion. If you saw the video of the Kenosha terrorist (I couldn’t figure out how to save from Twitter to re-post) he WALKS BY THE COPS with an AK swinging off his hip as they respond to a SHOOTING CALL. Think about that. Really think about it. Then go find the video and cry like I did when you see this fuck walk past cops when HE IS THE SHOOTER and a black man can’t drive along and a black woman CAN’T GO TO SLEEP safely in America. . In my story are the phone numbers and emails for the Kenosha officials to call for justice. It feels moot, but it isn’t. Our collective action saw charges and indictments for Ahmaud Arbery. We have to try. . Talking to a friend last night I told her how guilty I feel when I experience joy and she said “You cannot. You cannot let them win. You deserve joy. We all do” So true. Thank you. This game is rigged and it’s fucked up, but I REFUSE to give up. . She would stand outside and try to take off – superheroine style. She was young enough that she had no boundaries on the possibilities of what she could or could not do (or a clear understanding of human physical limitations. Haha!). Her parents never told her she couldnt fly and encouraged her to find creative ways to pursue her love of the sky. It is only fitting that she works at the Boeing Company. Sydney is flying, just a little bit differently than she imagined. There wasn’t a particular person or a particular event that inspired her, she has always been fascinated with the sky. What do you do?: Rising Technology Star Award Winner, Sydney Hamilton, has been featured on @CBS @CBSUnstoppable, in @MarieClaire Magazine, on @NPR’s @WowInTheWorld, and across The @Boeing Company for her innovative contributions to the aerospace industry. Sydney is a mechanical design engineer at @BoeingSpace Satellite Factory. So, in a way, she is still flying just a little bit differently than she originally imagined! Sydney leads a cross-functional team in the development of Satellite Reflectors. Reflectors are critical composite mechanisms on satellites that redirect radio frequencies (like your GPS!) to desired areas. Throughout Sydney’s career, she has had the opportunity to design 3D-printed satellite parts, deliver structural repairs to Boeing’s fleet, as well as analyze for the 777X Folding Wing-Tip – the first commercial airplane with mechanical folding wings! Outside of work: She is on the board of directors of non-profit @DramaticResults and an @AAAS @IfThenSheCan Ambassador to inspire youth to pursue STEM fields. IF/THEN’s mission is to inspire young girls, especially of color, to be exposed to all of the amazing opportunities in STEM. If she can see it, then she can be it. #RepresentationMatters. The new standard for taking me to the movies ☝🏽 But real talk, I really loved the intimate experience and the opportunity to try out new small businesses in Toronto at the @tiff_net Visa Skyline Drive-In. We have such a diverse city and with that comes so many different cuisines! @eatmiramira and @burdockbrewery were some of my favs featured at the drive-in (swipe to see drool worthy pics) - their snacks were so amazing and healthy. I’m definitely going to try them both out in real life and I encourage you all to as well!
