Hecha por el también requeté Sebastián Taberna. Los Tercios de Requetés fueron cuerpo de voluntarios que luchaba en defensa de la tradición religiosa y de la monarquía carlista . Desde el establecimiento de la II República se formaron unidades paramilitares carlistas en zonas de influencia carlista con la misión de custodiar edificios religiosos, vigilar los círculos carlistas, proteger los mítines y actos políticos tradicionalistas. Con la preparación del golpe estas unidades se fueron militarizando y jugaron un papel clave en la sublevación del Noreste de España. Like many MIS servicemen, Uncle Tom rarely talked about his military service. Although I could never fully express my gratitude, this tribute is a small token of my appreciate for his brave sacrifices and honoring his legacy. Thank you, Uncle Tom! I continue to honor my promise of preserving your story and legacy. Hobi Fujiu (#2): Uncle Hobi served in the Anti-Tank Company of the 442nd as a Technician 5th Grade. It surprised me to learn that he volunteered for service out of the Amache Concentration Camp in Colorado. He flew into Europe on gliders and even took part in the planning for the Rescue of the Lost Battalion. His valiant efforts earned him a Bronze Star. RIP Uncle Hobi, I continue to honor my promise of preserving your story and legacy. Minoru Miyasaki (#3): Although I did not have the privilege of meeting Minoru Miyasaki, he volunteered out of camp and served as a Private First Class in G Company of the 442nd. He was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star for his valiant efforts. His son, Kevin Miyasaki, says that he never expressed bitterness about being interned in a concentration camp and that his father rarely ever spoke about his military service. The Battle of Gettysburg to many ended on July 3, after the devastating results of Pickett’s Charge. However, the battle for some soldiers did not end. The United States Sharpshooters were called upon again to remove enemy skirmishers from the field. In the early morning hours of July 4, four companies of the 2nd United States Sharpshooter (D, H, F, and B) were sent to the Peach Orchard to remove Confederate sharpshooters. Private Wyman White described the brief action; “We advanced at a double quick to a post and board fence some forty or fifty rods beyond the pike. On the opposite side of the fence was a corn field, the corn was up some three or four feet high and quite thick.” White mentions the enemy sharpshooters retreated, but they were not allowed to pursue. If they were to move, they would lose their high ground position and take significant casualties. They “had to lay low for if a man exposed himself, he was sure to be hit by a rebel’s bullet.” This brief engagement in the Peach Orchard on July 4 is not commonly talked about. The four companies had 3 men killed and several wounded by noon to drive the enemy from the field. They were relieved by the rest of the 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters and did not engage with Confederates the rest of the day. William C. Beard of Company F, 1st Sergeant Josiah Gray of Company D, and James S. Kent of Company G were those killed on July 4. He was promoted to Generalleutnant three days later and flew to Tripoli on 12 February. The DAK had been sent to Libya in Operation Sonnenblume to support Italian troops who had been roundly defeated by British Commonwealth forces in Operation Compass. His efforts in the Western Desert Campaign earned Rommel the nickname the Desert Fox from British journalists. One Man Army: Gurkha Dipprasad Pun On the night of 17 September 2010, Sergeant Dipprasad Pun, 31, was on duty alone at night when he heard some noises and realized he was surrounded. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pun opened fire with a machine gun, a rifle and a grenade launcher. He single handedly fought off up to 30 Taliban trying to storm his position near Babaji in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At one point he had to use the tripod of his machine gun to beat away a militant climbing the walls of the compound.
