412-414 (172-174 old numbers) Washington Street. Originally built in 1853 as an Armory, which helped supply troops with guns and ammo throughout the Civil War. ¤ In 1881 and again in 1893 the building was remodeled slightly becoming the new home of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. Celebrations and gatherings of all kinds were held at the Odd Fellows Hall, decorations provided of course by United Decorating ¤ In the 1920’s the Odd Fellows moved to 227 Washington and the Palace Garden began to occupy the space. Much like its predecessor, the Palace Garden was a hall that often hosted cabarets and a variety of other performances. ¤ The building was once again renovated to its current appearance. Information about the “Lining Store” appears to be nonexistent. In the 1940s it was the home of W.T. Grant Department Store. A wooden escalator was installed to transport customers between the two massive store floors. ¤ In the 1970’s 412-414 became Queens Department Store, a local favorite for everything and anything boasting, “Queens Will Treat You Right.” Eventually Blockbuster moved into the space, but sadly closed in 2011. (Pablo Neruda) Il castello sorge dovera ubicata probabilmente lAcropoli di Hipponion che in parte si estendeva pure sulla collina vicina.Nonostante la prima fase di costruzione della struttura venga volgarmente attribuita alletà Normanna,in realtà, essa risale al periodo Svevo quando Matteo Marcofaba governatore della Calabria venne incaricato da Federico II di ripopolare e favorire lo sviluppo della la città. Il castello venne ampliato da Carlo dAngiò nel 1289 quando assunse più o meno un aspetto simile a quellodierno. Fu rafforzato dagli Aragonesi nel XV secolo ed infine rimaneggiato dai Pignatelli tra il XVI-XVII sec, perdendo quasi del tutto la funzione militare e assumendo invece quella di abitazione nobiliare. Il secondo piano fu demolito di proposito, in quanto pericolante, a causa dei danni riportati dopo il terremoto del 1783. Il castello presenta oggi delle torri cilindriche, una torre speronata ed una porta ad unarcata di epoca angioina. Le château de Neu-Falkenstein se situe dans le canton de Soleure en Suisse. Le château d’origine avait été grandement endommagé par un tremblement de Terre en 1356 après des travaux de reconstruction qui furent important on rebaptisa ce château tout beau tout neuf « Neu-Falkenstein » Le premier propriétaire de cette seigneurie attesté par des documenst du deuxième quart du XIIIème siècle est Rodolphe de Falkenstein fils de Rodolphe de Bechburg. En 1417 La ville de Soleure en devint propriétaire et y fit installer un baillage. En 1798 la vague révolutionnaire qui avait agité la France des années auparavant s’abat sur la région et le château de Neu-Falkenstein est brûlé par des gens de Balsthal. Il ne sera jamais reconstruit, en témoigne ces belles ruines toujours debout aujourd’hui. Das Schloss Neu-Falkenstein befindet sich im Kanton Solothurn in der Schweiz. Die ursprüngliche Burg war 1356 nach umfangreichen Umbauarbeiten durch ein Erdbeben stark beschädigt worden. Diese schöne, brandneue Burg wurde in Neu-Falkenstein umbenannt. Der erste Besitzer dieser Seigneury wurde durch Dokumente aus dem zweiten Quartal bestätigt des 13. Jahrhunderts ist Rudolph von Falkenstein Sohn von Rudolph von Bechburg. 1417 wurde die Stadt Solothurn Eigentümer und ließ dort eine Vogtei installieren. 1798 wurde die revolutionäre Welle, die Frankreich Jahre zuvor erschüttert hatte, durch die Region und die Burg von Neu-Falkenstein von Menschen aus Balsthal niedergebrannt. Batalha de Aljubarrota- 14 de agosto de 1385. Entre tropas portuguesas com aliados ingleses, comandadas por D. João I de Portugal e D. Nuno Álvares Pereira, e o exército castelhano e os seus aliados liderados por João I de Castela. O resultado foi a vitória dos portugueses frente a um exército muito superior, tanto em número como em armas! Os portugueses tinham 1700 lanças, 800 besteiros e 4000 peões; ao todo 6500 homens. Os castelhanos tinham 5000 lanças, 2000 cavalos, 8000 besteiros e 15 000 peões, num total de 30 000 homens, com 700 carroças, milhares de animais carregando mantimentos e munições, 8000 cabeças de gado. A Batalha de Aljubarrota foi uma das raras grandes batalhas campais da Idade Média entre dois exércitos régios e um dos acontecimentos mais decisivos da história de Portugal. Inovou a táctica militar, permitindo que homens de armas fossem capazes de vencer uma poderosa cavalaria. Pôs fim à crise de 1383-1385 e deu-se a consolidação de D. João I, anteriormente o mestre de Avis, como rei de Portugal, o primeiro da Dinastia de Avis. A aliança Luso-Britânica saiu reforçada desta batalha e seria selada um ano depois, com a assinatura do Tratado de Windsor e o casamento do rei D. João I com D. Filipa de Lencastre. Como agradecimento pela vitória na Batalha de Aljubarrota, D. João I mandou edificar o Mosteiro da Batalha.
