Where do your heart and soul call home? 🏡 In the most surreal of circumstances, we search for authenticity. Sometimes, that means returning to passions we’ve lost touch with in our lives. Roger Medearis (1920 – 2001) was an artist, born in Fayette, Missouri, who studied under Thomas Hart Benton and showed early promise in the movement of Realism. In 1946, after his service with the army came to a close, he moved to Connecticut where he built an artist’s studio. At his first show in 1949 at New York’s Kende Galleries, seven of his Realist paintings were sold, and a piece from his subsequent show in 1950, “Family Reunion”, was later exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But with income scarce, and Abstract Expressionism growing in popularity, Medearis grew disillusioned with America’s fading interest in the art of Realism, to which he had dedicated his life and studies. He moved from Connecticut back to his Midwestern roots, working as a paper salesman for over 10 years. He would avoid virtually all exposure to art. By the 1960s, however, after moving to California, Medearis found himself visiting art galleries and museums again, and in 1966, he converted his garage into a complete studio. He resigned from the Container Corporation of America and once again, began painting. In the decades that followed, Medearis continued to hone and evolve his technique, creating his own, unmistakable style. He continued to paint until his death in 2001. Hoy recordamos a Eugenia de Montijo, la joven aristócrata que se convirtió en emperatriz consorte de los franceses, ejerciendo como regente tras la muerte de Napoleón III. EDUCADA, INTELIGENTE, MODERNA... se convirtió además en un referente en el mundo de la moda durante el II imperio francés. Su vida y su legado resultan interesantes y de gran valor. En el año 1920, con 94 años, realizó su último viaje a España, embarcando en Marsella hasta Sevilla, ciudad que adoraba. Se alojó en el @palaciodelasduenas , donde fueron visitados por los Reyes de España, Alfonso XIII y Victoria Eugenia. For a #MuseumMomentOfZen please enjoy this work from the SBMA collection! ✨Larkin Goldsmith Mead, Jr. was born in Vermont, but spent 50 years working in Florence. He met his wife in Venice, and used her as the model for this allegorical portrait of the watery city. This subject was apparently quite popular with collectors, as it exists in at least ten marble versions. Venezia is shown wearing a tiara decorated with beads and a scalloped shell with a small gondola on top of it. Fueron muchas las localidades exploradas por este naturalista alemán a lo largo y ancho de la isla de Cuba. A partir de sus observaciones y estudios una buena parte de la fauna cubana quedó referida en diferentes monografías que abarcan casi todos los órdenes zoológicos. En ellas puede encontrarse, desde las características propias de cada especie #animal, con sus descripciones, sinonimia y costumbres, hasta notas que llaman la atención sobre la extinción de algunas y el modo de evitarlo. La #flora, aunque no fue objeto de sus investigaciones, quedó también incluida en su obra en anotaciones de carácter #ecológico. In 1876 Anne Whitney became the first woman to create a statue representing a state in the National Statuary Hall Collection. Her statue paid tribute to #SamuelAdams, the Father of the American Revolution from #Massachusetts who was born OTD in 1722. The statue was so popular, the city of Boston commissioned a bronze copy that stands outside of #FaneuilHall.
