Guárico. Vástago de Casildo Laya y de María Albertina Loyola. Entonó coplas llaneras desde niño y participó en bailes al arribar a la adolescencia. Luego se trasladó a Caracas en 1951 para comenzar una nueva etapa como joropero. Grabó e hizo famosos los temas musicales: El gavilán, Tierra Negra, Pasaje Nº 1, El carnaval, San Rafael, El sancocho y El pabellón, entre otros. Cantó con el arpista y compositor Juan Vicente Torrealba e Ignacio Ventura Figueredo, El indio Figueredo; con quien grabó las composiciones siguientes: El gabán y La verdolaga. Cuando disolvió su colaboración musical con El indio Figueredo, Loyola creó su propia agrupación musical en 1954, Los Guariqueños, grabando: Contramarcado, Buenos aires llaneros, Sentimiento llanero, Corrío Apureño, El Guachamarón, El Tigre de Masaguarito, La Catira Marmoleña. Es interesante reseñar los nombres de muchos arpistas que le acompañaron en ciertas etapas de su exitosa carrera musical, entre los que hallamos a Cosme Pérez, Eduardo Pérez, Manuel Luna, José Ángel Rengifo, Andrés Vera, José Ramón Valera, Rigoberto Valera, Omar Moreno Gil, Urbino Ruiz y Eudes Álvarez; interpretando temas como La catira, Pajarillo, La paraulata, La quirpa, El carnaval, Versos tristes, Puerto Miranda, Cajón de Arauca apureño, La guayaba, entre otros. El cantante de música llanera Ángel Custodio Loyola falleció el 24 de septiembre de 1985, víctima de un infarto al miocardio, en su casa en Cagua, Edo. Aragua. Fue sepultado en el Cementerio Metropolitano de Maracay, Edo. Aragua; y luego con autorización de los familiares, sus restos fueron exhumados y trasladados al Cementerio General de Calabozo, Edo. Ο Λεωνίδας ανέβηκε στο θρόνο το 488 π.Χ. μετά τον ετεροθαλή αδελφό του τον Κλεομένη, τον οποίο ο πατέρας του είχε αποκτήσει από τη δεύτερη σύζυγό του. Ο Λεωνίδας, καθότι τριτότοκος γιος, δεν περίμενε ότι θα γινόταν βασιλιάς. Όμως ο Κλεομένης εξορίστηκε και τελικά πέθανε σε μια φυλακή της Σπάρτης και ο Δωριέας είχε πεθάνει στη Σικελία οδηγώντας μια ομάδα μισθοφόρων.Αν ο Λεωνίδας γεννήθηκε το 540 π.Χ., τότε το 510 π.Χ. πρέπει να ήταν σε ηλικία γάμου. Είτε παντρεύτηκε μια γυναίκα το όνομα της οποίας αγνοούμε, οπότε και χώρισε αργότερα, είτε έμεινε ανύπαντρος μέχρι τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 490 π.Χ., όταν παντρεύτηκε τη Γοργώ, η οποία ήταν κόρη του αδελφού του, Κλεομένη. Εκείνη την εποχή, ήταν φυσιολογικό οι βασιλείς να παντρεύονται κοντινά συγγενικά τους πρόσωπα για να διατηρήσουν το βασιλικό αίμα. Ο Λεωνίδας με τη Γοργώ απέκτησαν ένα γιο, τον Πλείσταρχο, γεγονός που τον καθιστούσε ισότιμο με τους τριακόσιους, οι οποίοι επιλέχθηκαν να τον συνοδέψουν στις Θερμοπύλες εν μέρει επειδή είχαν όλοι τους γιο. Ο Λεωνίδας με αυτό τον τρόπο επέλεξε πως όποιοι μαχητές θα πήγαιναν να πολεμήσουν έπρεπε να είχαν τουλάχιστον ένα γιο, ώστε να διατηρηθεί η γενιά τους. Από τους δυο βασιλιάδες της Σπάρτης θέλησε να πάει ο Λεωνίδας, υπακούοντας και σε ένα χρησμό του μαντείου των Δελφών που έλεγε: Ή πόλη της Σπάρτης θα σβηστεί από το χάρτη ή θα θρηνήσει τον βασιλιά της. Ο Λεωνίδα ανέλαβε την ηγεσία του συμμαχικού ελληνικού στρατού και κατάφερε με επιτυχία να τους κρατήσει ενωμένους και να ξεχάσουν τις διαφορές τους. Η στρατιωτική του ευφυΐα έγινε εμφανής τον Αύγουστο του 480 π.Χ. στο στενό των Θερμοπυλών, με το τρόπο που παρέταξε τα στρατιωτικά τμήματα και με τη ταχύτητα με την οποία τα ενάλλασσε στο πεδίο της μάχης. Μπροστά στον πολυπληθέστατο στρατό των Περσών, ο Λεωνίδας με 300 Σπαρτιάτες και 700 Θεσπιείς προέβαλε γενναία αντίσταση, εκμεταλλευόμενος και τη φυσική διαμόρφωση της θέσης. Όταν ο Ξέρξης τού απέστειλε αγγελιαφόρο και του ζήτησε να παραδώσει τα όπλα και να παραδοθεί, ο Σπαρτιάτης βασιλιάς απάντησε «Μολών λαβέ», δηλαδή «ελα να τα πάρεις», θέλοντας έτσι να τον προκαλέσει να δώσει μάχη και να αποδείξει την αξία του. James Reynolds captured the drama, excitement, action and even the chaos of a buffalo hunt by a group of mounted Plains Indians who display both their horsemanship and prowess as hunters using bows and arrows. Reynolds has created a scene of intense action and movement, but he has also been careful to include authentic details of the period, such as the handprint on the leading Indian’s white horse, a sign that this individual has touched an opponent in battle. The action is set against a parched and rolling prairie landscape underneath a cloud-filled blue sky. While the dust cloud from the riders and herd obscure the trailing Indians and animals, the leading players are shown in clear detail. Like many of his predecessor artists, most notably Charles M. Russell, Reynolds found in the buffalo hunt a subject that has universal appeal illuminating both the bravery and skill of the hunters and the magnificence of the hunted. This piece was first exhibited at the Prix de West Invitational held at the @nationalcowboymuseum in #OklahomaCity and subsequently found its home in The Eddie Basha Collection. - @bashacollection on Instagram
