Ek hoor julle skaterlag en ek tel die soutdruppels wat klou-klou hang aan julle kuifies. “Die seewater doen sy ding,” dink ek hardop soos ek julle loopneuse afvee, “Saline is gelukkig nie nou nodig nie.” Julle bou sandkastele, vang seeslakkies waar die branders breek en bou vir hulle ‘n seetuin neffens ‘n verdwaalde rots op die strand. As vryheid ‘n mens was ... “Dit is ons diertjies, Mamma,” jil julle gelate uit. Die sandkorrels klou aan julle bene soos “hundreds-and-thousands” teen die sonroom-gom wat ek met ‘n waarskuwing aangesmeer het. Selfs die son mag julle nie skade doen nie. Ek verwonder my aan hoe julle sorgeloos speel, onverskrokke strandmaatjies maak en dan ook binne ‘n oomblik kom opkrul op ons skote vir ‘n drukkie of twee en baie liefde. My wens vir julle?
