My latest remix arrived on wax today. Growing up as a teenager, when I first started getting into djing, I was obsessed with the harder sounds. Born and raised in Melbourne I came across @djhellraiser and the Pharmacy crew. A young 15 year old in 2005 I couldn’t get in anywhere to see him for real. But it was the Pharmacy cds and bootleg videos on his MySpace page of him head banging away. Essentially. His style as a Dj performance wise is where I got it from. The headbanging, the hand movements and all. I was lucky enough to watch him Dj at Vinyl Warning in 2006, where we met and he signed my copy of Acid Noir. Now here we are, I’ve remixed my teenage idol and it’s out now on vinyl. It’s an old acid rave classic, ‘The Outer Limits’ and ya boy put his hammer Sig on it. September is a very special month that we didn’t give gratitude to until this year; September is NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Awareness Month. Although Courtney has worked with NICU staff throughout her career and Sabrina has talked to staff and toured NICUs annually throughout her career, one doesn’t truly gain an appreciation until you are in the NICU with your babies. Our triplets were born at 34 weeks and all spent time in the NICU, with the shortest stay being a week and the longest 2 weeks. We are extremely blessed to have such a short stay in the NICU and for having the ability to bring ALL of our babies home, we know that is not always the case. There’s no explanation of the feeling you have seeing your babies, such pure souls, being connected to multiple IV’s, breathing tubes, feeding tubes, etc.; as a parent you feel hopeless. There is so much that you want to do to your newborns - hug, kiss, snuggle - but that’s not always the best choice for a baby in the NICU, as they are so vulnerable. So we had to place all of our hope and trust into individuals that we met as we walked into the NICU. It’s such a terrifying feeling but then one of the nurses came to us and gave us so much hope and put us at ease. It takes a very special person to be a health care provider in the NICU; to all the NICU providers out there - we appreciate you, we thank you, we see how hard you work and we are forever grateful of you all. We are infinitely indebted to our amazing NICU team @kpthrive @kp_riverside for the incredible attention and care you provided to not only our little ones, but these new Mamas as well. There’s not enough gratitude, kindness or words in this world for us to show our uttermost appreciation for you all. ➡️ to see some of our first times holding our babies. What inspires me the most Vol.1 “La Vieja”- my grandmother left a mountain town called jamamucito in the late 1960s and landed in The Lower Eastside of Manhattan in the beginning of the Dope era towing along 12 kids of which the oldest was 18 at the time. They Lived in a 5 story walk up where they had to fight with all the feens shooting dope everyday, it’s amazing that none of her kids went to prison or fell to drug addiction. Instead all of the kids went on to be hard workers and business owners with respectable names. This young lady turns 95 today and is one of my biggest inspirations in life. I can’t believe it but tonight’s the night. The Series Finale of #HTGAWM. I took this photo in May of 2014 having just checked into my hotel room in Philadelphia to shoot the pilot. I was exhilarated and terrified and didn’t know what to expect. I soon found myself at ease in the company of the finest group of actors I’ve ever seen assembled. This incredibly talented group was lead by the almost unreal talent of @violadavis. It was an honor to work with her and a privilege over the course of our six years to watch her rightfully become one of the most celebrated actors alive. Meet This Young Fella Jeffery After Spotting Him & his Wife walking towards Sunrise Mart on Broome St. I waited with @crystalgeller to try & snag a photo of the couple as they took a seat next to the mart. A few Minutes later, I gave up on the Photo & decided to walk in the shop but was held up by a “excuse me sir”. Jeffery asked if I could help him get lunch because his back hurt whilst handing a $20 towards me. What would you like I asked? “2 Miso Soups, 2 Salmon Rolls, tell them its for Jeffery” I made the order & picked up lunch for him & his wife who have been residing in Soho since the 60’s after falling in love in Art School. A month ago, I went on a men’s retreat and found a deep level of connection through our stories and challenges. Being a part of this group has been healing and empowering on so many levels, but the biggest impact is the permission I’ve given myself to feel anger. I’ve always tried to ignore, numb or resist anger. Honestly, it scares the shit out of me to feel the intensity of what’s passing through. It can feel visceral and even dangerous. It takes me to the point of being existential and can get really uncomfortable. In the past, I’d rather just smoke a joint and forget about everything in a haze. But that feeling when you hit an edge can lead to huge moments of growth, facing down similar patterns and responding in a different way. For all of my brothers out there - you’re not alone in repressing your feelings, and the connection you may be seeking can be had if you allow yourself to be vulnerable. Today was a day out at the beach thanks to my dear friends @taha_1986 and @naveera_f That was the good part! Now I shall move on to the not so good part. What and how has Karachi come to a point where going to the beach becomes an ordeal because there are NO roads at some points of the route. Why do people of this amazing city have to live with this? I know Im not the first to point this out BUT today was supposedly a normal day as there hasnt been any substantial rain fall in the past week or so. It took us three and a half hours to reach the place we had booked. It baffles me as to how the people havent come out on the streets and grabbed the rulers by their necks. The Pakistan coast line deserves clean beaches, resorts, restaurants and proper roads leading up to them! If there are magnificent roads leading into the mountains of this country then there need to be roads leading to the beaches as well. We deserve better, Karachi deserves better! Pakistan Zindabad.
