Have you seen the official fossil of the State of TN? Approximately 70 million years ago, an inland sea covered the Mid-South. This sea teemed with life, from giant mosasaurs to humble filter-feeding bivalves. Though small, these bivalves made up a majority of the biomass along the shallow edges of the sea. One very successful genus was Pterotrigonia, which sported a ridged shell and complicated mechanisms of opening and closing. One of the species, Pterotrigonia thoracica, is the official fossil of the State of Tennessee. For more information on this and additional at-home learning – https://memphismuseums.org/museum-to-go/ #cretaceous #cretaceousperiod #bivalves #filterfeeder #statefossil #fossilfriday #memphismuseums #museumtogo #museumfromhome #pinkpalacemuseum - @memphismuseums on Instagram

- In Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) Jack Sparrow’s pistol was the only real gun in the movie. Johnny Depp used a set of two flintlock pistols that were made in 1765. However, they were only used in scenes where they needed to be fired. Otherwise, he used replicas.
