An advocate friend of mine predicted the case, and he was right. Srinagar, Sept 24 (GNS): The High Court on Thursday granted bail to a councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil Zakir Hussian who was arrested on June 19 for his “highly objectionable” audio clip mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Army in the wake of the face-off between India and China. The councillor from Shakar constituency in Kargil district, Zakir had submitted a public apology over his remarks but case FIR No.34 of 2020 for offences under Section 124A (sedition), 153A, 153B, 505(2) and 188 of IPC) was registered with Police Station, Kargil. Zakir, a long time Congress activist was expelled by the party on the issue, soon after his arrest on June 19. “The challan in the case has been filed, which means that the investigation of the case is complete. The petitioner (Zakir) is not alleged to have committed an offence which carries capital punishment, as such, the rigor of Section 437(1)(i) of the Code of Criminal Procedure is not attracted to the instant case,” bench of Justice Sanjay Dhar said as per Global News Service, granting bail to Zakir on furnishing personal bond with one surety of Rs.50,000. The court said that Zakir is also elected representative of LAHDC having deep roots in the community as such the chances of his fleeing from justice are very remote. The court also asked him to appear on each and every date of hearing before the trial court and not tamper with prosecution witnesses and not to leave the territorial limits of Ladakh without prior permission of the trial court. “…from the observations of the Supreme Court, it is clear that mere expression of derogatory or objectionable words may not be a sufficient ground for invoking the provisions contained in Section 124A or 153A of IPC,” the court said, adding, “The provisions would apply only when the written or spoken words have the tendency or intention of creating disorder or disturbance of public peace by resort to violence.” The court said that it would premature for it to comment on the question whether the alleged conversation made by Zakir and uploaded on the - @ladakhtalkies on Instagram

I cannot believe it’s been 2 years since the world lost J Gold. He was iconic. He was LA. He was gold.💛In case u don’t know the story behind this illustration /print, here it is...I had just judged the @kcrwgoodfood pie contest with him a few months before and I psyched myself up to go introduce myself to him at the very end (there are a lot of judges and our categories didn’t overlap)and it went better than I imagined. When I started to explain who I was, he cut me off and said he already knew, had a tote bag I designed for KCRW and that he liked my art (say whaaaat?!)😱. He complimented me on a passion project I did the year before, where I illustrated highlights from episodes of Good Food, but then he gave me this kinda sad, pouty face and said he noticed that his restaurant reviews weren’t included in any of the illustrations. OOPS! That WAS true, but like, there were more timeless things to illustrate each week than a restaurant review. He said “I get it” but he was still kinda waiting to see me draw something he said on air. I excitedly and immediately promised him that I’d draw him something special and it’d be cool! He acted like that would make up for it and said he’d like that. Then I asked for a photo and made a joke about wishing I had on suspenders, to pull out and snap for the photo. He didn’t skip a beat and said I could pull his out for the photo, if I wanted. 😂 I was into it (swipe to see the photo)! When I heard the news of his passing I thought of what I promised him, then spent the next day going through episodes of Good Food from 2017 and listened to ALL his reviews. I pulled out the lines I thought he’d like and created this tribute illustration. I hate that I didn’t get to make this before, so he could see it and hopefully be stoked, but better late than never. In the past week or so, so many bands I’ve followed, listened to, and even considered myself a fan of have been called out for sexual harassment, rape, and other sexually predatory behaviors, often targeting minors. It is no secret that the music industry, like the film industry and so many others, is ridden with sexual predators encouraged by a culture of misogyny and silence. @burgerrecords4life, @losgrowlers, The Buttertones, Part Time to name a few, have been accused of committing acts of sexual violence and systematic silencing, not just once but multiple times, showing a pattern of behavior that has created a sickening culture of abuse that was until recently kept in the dark. Those who grew up in the DIY hard core, emo, scremo and other music scenes know that the preying of older, predominately straight white males on younger girls is so prevalent as we saw bands like Brand New and many others being exposed within the past few years for their sick acts. THIS IS STILL HAPPENING!!! What structures are we putting in place to end this culture of violence while holding musicians, venues, and scene goers accountable? She’s also decided that she wants to make another solo album and plans to spend the rest of quarantine turning the poetry from her journals into lyrics. (Here’s the first part of the interview) Stevie Nicks was in her early 30s when her father told her she’d never get married. She had just released her solo album, 1981’s “Bella Donna,” embarking on a second career that would fill any time she wasn’t spending with Fleetwood Mac. Her music, Nicks’ dad said, would always consume her. She considered the possibility. She certainly was not a woman who liked to be told what to do. Still, the words stung: “No man would be happy being Mr. Stevie Nicks for very long.” Had he doomed her to a life of solitude simply by speaking the thought into existence? “Nobody,” she laughs now, decades later, “dooms me to anything but myself.” At 72, Nicks has had a few great loves. Some we know about — Lindsey Buckingham, Don Henley, JD Souther — and many we don’t. She did get married once, back in 1983, an ill-fated three-month relationship with the husband of her best friend, who had just died of leukemia. She would have considered taking another spouse, had she met the right person — someone who wasn’t jealous of her, who got a kick out of her crazy girlfriends. But ultimately, her father pretty much got it right: She has yet to feel more devoted toward a man than her muse. Which is why, in part, this pandemic has hit her so hard. The Canadian music industry is a dark and scary place when the artists you love dont get the support they deserve. FACTORs annual reports (available online) highlight the disparities in funding between genres, but speak volumes to who receives the most help in jumpstarting or continuing their careers.
