Let us equally commit to questioning the information we receive today. Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? Honoring the words of John F. Kennedy, lets get curious about the information that we are presented with. Lets commit to following the science, seeking education and being an advocate for truth. So much is at stake right now, and we have to think and act with our community and our worlds best interest at heart. #Commune #Community #CommunityCare #Vote #Education #Research #Information #Science #Truth #Humility #Advocate - @onecommune on Instagram

We are excited to announce the opening of our new exhibition, NOW BULLETIN: Artworks, Letters and Printed Matter from the Garry Neill Kennedy Collection 1968 – 2019. Please attend our special opening preview weekend on September 19th and 20th. This is a timed opening preview weekend to ensure guests can maintain proper social distancing measures. Each ticket is 30 minutes, but guests are invited to get two tickets if they would like more time to visit the exhibition. You can book your ticket(s) on Eventbrite (link in our bio). About the Exhibition Exhibition Dates: September 19 to December 12, 2020 Guest Curator: David MacWilliam Now Bulletin is an exhibition, residency series, and public program on the collection and works of eminent Vancouver artist and former NSCAD president, Garry Neill Kennedy. Reflecting on hospitality, history, memory and the archive in relation to Kennedy and his long history at NSCAD as well as the relationships that have unfolded ever since, NOW BULLETIN asks, how do we tell the story of a community? What does it mean to create consequential provisional communities (including faculty, students & visitors)? How do proximities affect innovation and experimentation? Which relationships became formative and why? In a moment in which conviviality is at stake in the business models of many public institutions that teach art, how do we draw upon one of the most exciting and successful experiments in Canadian art, to protect and nurture current and future spaces in which experimentation and openness may take place? Including public programs and residencies, this project examines Kennedy’s personal archive to explore these questions. Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002) // was an American-Canadian photographer known for his portraits of notable individuals. He has been described as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century. An Armenian Genocide survivor, Karsh migrated to Canada as a refugee. By the 1930s he established himself as a significant photographer in Ottawa, where he lived most of his adult life, though he traveled extensively for work. His iconic 1941 photograph of Winston Churchill was a breakthrough point in his 60-year career, through which he took numerous photos of known political leaders, men and women of arts and sciences. Over 20 photos by Karsh appeared on the cover of Life magazine, until he retired in 1992. His 1941 photo of Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister, brought him prominence. The photo was taken on December 30, 1941 in the chamber of the Speaker of the House of Commons in the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa after Churchill delivered a speech on World War II to the Canadian members of the parliament. It was arranged by Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King. Churchill is particularly noted for his posture and facial expression, which have been compared to the wartime feelings that prevailed in the UK: persistence in the face of an all-conquering enemy. The photo session was short and, just before exposure, Karsh moved towards Churchill and removed the cigar which he had in his hand. Churchill was miffed and showed his displeasure in the portrait. #filmphoto #film #filmsnotdead #photography #arthistory #portrait #portraitphotography - @thefilmcameraco on Instagram
