Despite what the love stories and fairytales tell us, you are whole. You aren’t waiting for your life to begin when your person makes their way to you. You are not someone’s better half, and no one else is yours. You don’t need someone to complete you and your purpose is not to complete someone else. We’re primed to think we need rescuing, or that other people are out there to steal our beauty or accomplishments and that we need a partner in crime to face life’s turmoils. You then get to decide who you are in relation to this human and decide if this is a climate you enjoy being in. Of course, you will feel off-balance in your coupledom from time to time as you travel through life and support one another, and you might not grow at the same rate when one of you are at a standstill. Compassion is key. But as two wholes, you can nourish the relationship you have with each other, keeping the focus on your own journey evolving separately. Chris and I have been spending a lot of time dreaming together about our lives. It is my one of my most favorite parts of our relationship but also of this extra time at home together. Even with everything shutting down, our world has kind of opened up.
