Can’t not pay tribute to this incredible planet on Earth Day. This photo is from one of the most genuinely awe inspiring places I have been on this planet, the summit plateau of the second highest peak in Greenland. To the right the Greenland Ice Sheet extends in a white barren expanse, and to the left, the broken topography of the coastal mountains. Some of these peaks have glaciers on their summits large enough to warrant a name in Europe or here in Nth America. This trip was a film and climate science expedition we did in 2016 with @salomon who just re-released the film on YouTube. Hopefully when this pandemic has passed we can turn this same unity, innovation and action toward the issue of climate change that has not gone away. This last week has been an experience I will never forget 😍 I now know why Malawi is called the heart of Africa ❤️ . I’ve never smiled so much but at the same time been at a loss for parents & children who have so little (despite their generosity & big smiles). These feeding programmes make such a huge difference in these children’s lives, for most of the children it can be their only meal of the day. Through @onefeedstwo and @mindfulchefuk the meals we donate really do help these families every single day. . From being a human climbing frame to sharing porridge with Stellia (who’s the same age as Sienna) I have memories that will last a lifetime. We may be on the other side of the 🌍but we’ve seen in person the positive impact we can have. . Como profissional de EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA priorizo bem estar e qualidade de vida e, entendo que os demais especialistas assim também agem e entendem, independente de suas formações ou especialidades. No entanto, sei reconhecer minhas limitações e campos de atuação. Atividades que não competem à minha profissão não são por mim exercidas, ainda que tenha capacidade de conhecimento para tal. Infelizmente nem todos pensam desta forma e, exatamente nesse ponto encontram-se minha indignação e tristeza. É lamentável perceber que programas de televisão ainda insistem em tratar do tema Atividade Física com o auxílio de médicos. Respeito a classe médica e, reconheço a importância e capacidade adquirida com anos de formação, mas também sei que a Atividade Física foi cuidadosamente estudada, investigada e compreendida por Profissionais de Educação Física que dedicaram parte de suas vidas apenas a ela. É claro que a mídia busca por médicos renomados, o que é justo. Competência precisa ser reconhecida! Mas, seja o reconhecimento e expressão do mesmo apenas naquilo que lhe compete! Pessoas podem ser competentes para algo, mas não para tudo! A maior indignação não está na busca e indicação dos meios de comunicação, mas sim no profissional que se propõem a tratar e exercer aquilo que não lhe é direito. Como Profissional de Educação Física jamais atestaria diagnósticos, prescreveria medicação ou realizaria exames ... Red Bluff at Quobba Station . Another awesome, pet friendly, beachside station stay. We spent 3 nights here, enjoying the whales swimming past right infront of us. Mango shakes from the shop (a must), lots of walks, especially up to the small caves on top of the hill, as well as around the station where you will find lots of sheep, goats and kangaroos 🦘 . Things to know: 🚙 The road in is about 45kms on a graded track, conditions vary, but it can get quite rough. Sites cannot be pre-booked. ⛺️First come, first served, but there are quite a few camp sites around. All unpowered. 🚽 Portable toilets are preferred as the few drop loos on site get quite busy & are also used by day trippers. 🚿 There is no water or showers on site. BYO 🔥 camp fires permitted depending on the season/conditions, you can buy firewood at the office or we recommend BYO. Don’t collect onsite. 🐶 Dogs are welcome, but be aware there are 1080 baits around, so keep them close & maybe even muzzle. Towards the beach, after the office is a pet-free zone. 🌊surf off the point is awesome. Also Tombstones at @gnaraloostation is only a short drive north (also on a graded track). The shoreys were big & makes it hard for swimming at the beach, again might want to day trip to @gnaraloostation if you’re after that. . The common phrases “Buenas” or “Mornin” can be heard in the streets at every corner of the island from those living in Roatan and even from travelers. It’s common to be greeted by strangers in Roatan and to become accustomed to this. The culture of “ Buenas” makes Roatan one of the best places to travel and to live. The islanders have lived together biculturally in harmony. “Mornin’ “ is a greeting half of them say and “Buenos” from the other half depending on heritage. I think this is a wonderful practice and it’s not surprising if you consider the fact that Roatan is an interesting collection of different cultures. Though Roatan is not small the communities there are. This creates a level of comfort despite different cultures, colors and contradictions. Next time your traveling in your own area consider taking a lesson from the culture of Buenas and sharing a smile with a stranger or even a “Hello”. Though in western culture it is not common place to greet strangers; maybe embracing that friendlier side of ourselves will provide some comfort and help strengthen local communities during these difficult times. A beautiful day out to the wild and remote Sanna Bay on the west coast of Scotland. We had the beach pretty much to ourselves for much of the afternoon, and enjoyed a lovely cold swim as the rain passed over and the sun came out. Crystal clear, turquoise water and white sand, a few sheep along the bay to keep us company. We went out this way in part to photograph two wonderful people for the next book and were so happy to discover this beach was nearby! Well worth the long drive on so many levels. #ESMOI 🌎🦐🌊// El pasado jueves 03 de septiembre vía zoom y con una gran cantidad de público, Camila Gallardo, estudiante de Magister en Ciencias del Mar UCN y tesista ESMOI, defendió con éxito su tesis 🎉🙌🏼 El objetivo fue comparar los patrones espaciales de zooplancton, partículas pasivas y abundancia de plástico en los slicks de las aguas costeras 🌊 de Rapa Nui 🗿 ➡️ Los slicks son filamentos, líneas o parches alargados, de color más claro y suaves en la superficie del océano en comparación con la superficie de aguas circundantes. Estas zonas favorecen la acumulación de partículas flotantes (ej. plásticos), organismos y burbujas. Los principales resultados de la tesis indican lo siguiente: ▶️ De acuerdo con sus principales características (orientación a la costa y/o al viento), los slicks estudiados fueron originados muy probablemente por procesos oceanográficos como los frentes controlados topográficamente (ej. Motus), otros frentes y ondas internas 😲 ▶️ En general, dentro de los slicks se encontraron con mayor frecuencia las partículas pasivas, incluyendo plásticos, exuviae, huevos y foraminíferos, que en el exterior de los slicks 😯 ▶️ Se encontró una relación positiva entre los plásticos y algunos organismos planctónicos, como los foraminíferos, caracoles y medusas (ej. Velella velella), aunque también se encontró una fuerte correlación con peces, chaetognatos y crustáceos que tienen mayor movilidad 🤯 ▶️ Estos resultados sugieren que los slicks son zonas de posible agregación de partículas tanto pasivas como activas que desempeñan un importante rol ecológico en la retención y agregación de alimento 🧐 ▶️ Sin embargo estos procesos también aumentan el riesgo de ingestión de plásticos por parte de peces y aves marinas al alimentarse en estas zonas 😵 Felicitamos a Camila @mica_gallardop por este nuevo logro 🙌🏼🎉🏆 // @iniciativamilenio @fcm_ucn @ucn_coquimbo @vcm_coquimbo @cienciaceaza @ucn - @esmoi_ucn on Instagram

Aziz* is living in the worlds largest refugee settlement. He arrived three years ago after fleeing violence in Myanmar, where he was separated from his family and was shot twice in his leg. His leg had become infected and had to be amputated. When he and his family arrived in Bangladesh, they lived on a steep hill which was slippery during rains, which meant that Aziz, with just one leg, was trapped at home.
