Guess who’s back!!! San Clemente’s One and Only SGT. PRESCOTT!!!! (formerly known as Deputy Prescott) Sgt. Prescott worked patrol in SC for ten years. From basic patrol to winning the MADD award three times and even working undercover he’s got a solid foundation of police work. Sgt. Prescott also had a helping hand in bringing new deputies out into the field as a Field Training Officer for 6 years, he was able to show them ropes and share his knowledge of partrol. Way back in 2018, Sgt. Prescott was promoted and was assigned back to the jails, as is routine with promotions for sergeants. Sgt. Prescott has returned to patrol, and is back here with us in San Clemente ! And if the name is familiar, it might be because his family came to San Clemente in the 50’s. When President Trump takes the stage on Saturday to deliver the commencement speech at West Point, one of the new Army officers he will be addressing will be an Indian-American woman breaking a barrier as old as the 218-year-old military academy. The woman, Anmol Narang, 23, a newly minted second lieutenant, will become the first observant Sikh to graduate from the United States Military Academy, a milestone that comes as racism appears to be on the rise within the military’s ranks and as Sikhs still face discrimination in some of its branches. With the exception of the Army and the Air Force, the military largely prohibits its members from serving with turbans, unshorn hair or unshorn beards — all of which are articles of faith for Sikhs. Meet Engineer Paramedic Manuel Ortega- Ortega was hired with @anaheimfireandrescue on May 10, 2002. Engineer Ortega received his A.S. in Fire Science from Santa Ana College in 1999 and his Paramedic certification in 2015 from Saddleback College. In his spare time he enjoys camping and going to the river with his family. Ortega has 2 dogs and 2 cats. Engineer Ortega shared his most memorable call, “Our patient was not able to talk and looked very pale. I could tell he was not doing well and was getting worse. I knew we had to get him to the hospital ASAP so we quickly got an IV, got him some oxygen and started checking all of his vitals, he was rushed to the ER and it was discovered he had 3 brain bleeds. Doctors were able to treat him and he came back to our station and thanked us for all we did for him. Un constructor de sueños de marca mayor El niño Dairo Jair Rosero Leyton, de 10 años, hijo de una familia campesina de la vereda La Cafelina, en El Tambo (Nariño), se encontraba gravemente enfermo por cuenta de una afección denominada púrpura fulminante, que afecta tanto sus extremidades superiores como inferiores. Buscando ayuda, los humildes padres supieron de un policía que en Santander auxiliaba a niños con discapacidad. Se trataba del mayor Rubén Darío Berrío Buitrago, creador de la campaña ‘Construyendo Sueños’, con la cual ganó el premio de la Noche de la Excelencia Policial 2017 en la categoría Policía más Humana y fue segundo a nivel nacional en todas las categorías. Tras conocer el drama de Dairo, el mayor emprendió una colecta para conseguirle unas prótesis, completando de su propio bolsillo para adquirirlas. Desde entonces, el pequeño puede realizar actividades cotidianas que antes le resultaban imposibles. A otros dos niños santandereanos, Carlitos y Santiago, con malformación congénita en sus extremidades superiores, también les cambió la vida con ayuda similar. Envió a Carlitos, de 7 años, a Bogotá y con el apoyo de ganaderos logró que le hicieran una prótesis como la de su personaje favorito: Iron Man. Y el mismo día en que Carlitos lloraba de felicidad por tan preciado regalo, le preguntaron al mayor si era posible hacer lo mismo con Santiago, de 5 años. Sin dudarlo, golpeó las puertas de la empresa privada y le consiguió la prótesis. Su compromiso con la comunidad lo ha llevado incluso a adquirir tres mulares para que se transporten niños del colegio de la vereda Aguas Claras; a amoblarle la casa a una familia de escasos recursos e incluso a crear el primer Comedog del municipio de Cimitarra, para alimentar a perros y gatos abandonados en las calles. El mayor, cuya labor la apoyan hasta niños que le ofrecen sus alcancías, nació el 14 de junio de 1982 en Chinchiná (Caldas). Está casado con la señora Lina Marcela Pascuas y es padre de Laura Alejandra, María José y Rubén Darío. En sus casi 19 años de servicio institucional ha sido desde comandante de CAI en Bogotá hasta efectivo de la Fuerza Disponible, pasando por los Escuadrones Móviles. - @mindefensaco on Instagram

In 2008, she joined the South African Air Force and was enrolled at Central Flying School in Langebaan, Western Cape. She earned her wings in 2011. This past Saturday, 97-year-old Private First Class Arthur Lee Brodin, a Castle Rock resident, was honored for his service to our country during World War II. The ceremony started with a WW II-era Jeep escort from his home to the Amphitheater at Philip S. Miller Park. The ceremony was hosted by Congressmen Ken Buck and remarks were also given by Castle Rock Mayor Jason Gray. At the ceremony, PFC Brodin was presented seven medals and awards for his service from 1943 to 1946. His service included surviving a glider crash landing on D-Day, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and assisting a doctor perform an emergency surgery on another soldier while en route to the U.S. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Thank you for your service, PFC Brodin! We are honored to have you as part of our Castle Rock community. - @crgov on Instagram

Please join us in honoring Staff Sgt. Ronald J. Ouellette, 23, a native of Merrimack, New Hampshire, who gave his life in service to the United States and its citizens. Staff Sgt. Ouellette, who was attached to the 42nd Aerial Port Squadron at Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts, died Monday from injuries sustained in a single all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) non-combat related accident on the flight line at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Ouellettte was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. “Ronald was a valued member of the Patriot Wing and there are no words that can heal the pain his loss brings,” said Col. Craig Peters, the 439th Airlift Wing commander. Ouellette, who had been in the Reserves for six years, was named “airman of the month” in October 2019 according to his squadron’s Facebook page. His awards include the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Reserve Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Longevity Service Award. Our deepest sympathies are with Staff Sgt. SGT Zachary D. Tellier - Remembering an American Hero Army SGT Zachary D. Tellier, 31, of Charlotte, N.C. formally of Westford, Mass.; was Killed In Action on this day in 2007 while in Firebase Wilderness, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. Zack was born in Carmel, NY and grew up in Westford, MA, and Bedford, NH. Zack graduated from Manchester West High School in 1994 and from American University in 1998 with a degree in Communications and History. During college, he interned at National Geographic Magazine, where he helped to choose photos for publication. He was president of the American University Rugby Club. During high school, Zack worked in front of and behind the cameras at Manchester (NH) Community Television, which is where he developed his interest in democracy, his love for the people of the world, and his realization of himself and his lifelong goals. In the summer of 1993, Zack was chosen to participate in a small student exchange program in Poland where the students produced documentaries together in order to learn each others languages and cultures. He returned to Poland for two more summers to teach video production and American history. During his high school years, he taught children at the German Language School in Manchester. As a young child Zac enjoyed watching Star Wars. In his teen years he was into skateboarding, and producing videos. He was an accomplished drummer in a rock band and a fan of rock artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and Dropkick Murphys. LTG DarrelI K. Williams, retired this past Friday after 37 years of service in the United States Army. LTG Williams is a distinguished Military Graduate of the Hampton Institute ROTC Program and was commissioned in the Army Quartermaster Corps in 1983. Before retiring, LTG Darrel K. Williams served as the Director of the Defense Logistics Agency with headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. LTG Williams is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC), the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) and a Distinguished Graduate of the National War College (NWC). He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia and Master’s degrees in Military Arts and Sciences, National Security and Strategic Studies, and Business Management (Logistics). LTG Williams has served on several deployments which include Kosovo, Kuwait and Iraq. He is highly decorated and earned many awards during his career. These awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge and Army Staff Identification Badge. LTG Williams has been a role model to many during his career. He has visited the Pirate Battalion on many occasion as a guest speak for panels and served as a mentor to cadets throughout the program. His time in service is not just appreciated within the United States Army, but also amongst many individuals in the Pirate Battalion. AFRAID TO POST. My heart is one of compassion and reconciliation. It pains me when people are in pain. In fact, my response is often to close up and shut down. Today is my son Sam’s 29th birthday. He is a good man. He loves Jesus. In fact, he and his family moved to Austin, TX to start a church in late 2019. He also is a man who puts his family first. He chose to be a police officer in part because he watched his dad serve our community. (Art has been in law enforcement for 35 years). Sam also chose his occupation, in my opinion because he has much love and compassion for people. I am grateful that he went home safely today after working on his day off and on his bday. Art and Sam are not perfect, believe me 🤣. But they and MANY others are being targeted now as the problem. These two men and MANY MANY other men and women are putting their lives on the line when they kiss their families goodbye and walk out the door. My prayer is that the post will not bring more division. I am trying to actively stay engaged.....Reaching out to my friends that I deeply love and trying to feel their deep pain. #WarriorWednesday An East Greenwich police sergeant died in a skydiving accident in Connecticut Saturday morning. Christopher Callan was also a Rhode Island National Guard sergeant and an experienced skydiver. The Connecticut State Police said they responded to Danielson Airport Saturday morning for a report of a person who was injured in a rough landing at the airfield. He was transported to Day Kimball Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Callan was skydiving Saturday with Skydive Danielson, which is located at the airport. Maj. Dennis Pineault, a spokesman for the Rhode Island National Guard, said Callan had 30 years of total service. He’d served with the Navy, then with the Guard, then went active duty into the Army before returning to the Guard, Pineault said. He most recently was a senior operations NCO with the 56th Troop Command, serving as a senior planner for the organization, Pineault said. “First Sergeant Callan was an important member of our team, and the entire National Guard family mourns his loss and holds all of his family, his friends and his brothers and sisters in uniform, both in the National Guard and the East Greenwich Police Department, in their thoughts,” Pineault said. Pineault said the jump Saturday was recreational, and not related to Guard duties. Callan is survived by three children, as well as his mother, his father, and two sisters, according to a news release from the East Greenwich Police Department. He was a 15-year veteran of the police force and an “exemplary” officer, serving as second shift supervisor, the department said. He was also the jump master for the Guard’s annual Leapfest competition at the University of Rhode Island. “Sergeant Callan will be sorely missed,” the department said. Norman Kirby understood the hardships of war as he grew up in British Columbia listening to war stories from his grandfather, a Boer War and FWW veteran. Undeterred by the cruel realities of war, he stepped up and answered the call of duty and enlisted, at the age of 17, when the #SWW broke out. During training, he became adept at using the Bren light machine gun and the Projector, Infantry, Anti Tank (PIAT). In May 1944, he was shipped off to the UK and assigned to the North Shore (New Brunswick) Infantry Regiment – who needed a qualified Bren gunner. On 6 June 1944, his war began as he stormed Juno Beach with his regiment on D-Day. Following the treacherous landing of D-Day, Kirby continued fighting with the regiment throughout Normandy as they worked tirelessly to recapture French ports along the channel and silence the German cross-channel guns. On February 26, during the Battle of the Rhineland, the regiment helped seize the town of Keppeln, where Kirby and another soldier broke into a German garrison and captured the enemy commander. Kirby was discharged in September 1945 and returned home to North Vancouver at the age of 19. He wasn’t old enough to vote or have a beer with his father, but he also wasn’t the same youngster that left for war. For his distinguished military career and service to Canada, Sergeant Norman Kirby received many plaudits and at least five medals. In 2020, he was awarded France’s highest decoration, la Légion dhonneur. Today, he lives a peaceful life in Lions Bay, BC with his wife Victoria. They have been married for 50 years and devote themselves to remembrance. “It is so gratifying to see how appreciative people are at these commemorative ceremonies. It makes it all worthwhile. The 4th Marine Corps District welcomed in the new Commanding Officer, Colonel Heather J. Cotoia this past week! @4thmcd 🇺🇸 . She enlisted in the Marine Corps in the Delayed Entry Program in July 1985. After graduation from high school in June 1986, she went to boot camp at Parris Island, SC. In August 1996, Colonel Cotoia was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and attended The Basic School (TBS). Following her selection to Top Level School, she reported in July 2018 and attended the U.S. Naval War College, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies in June 2019. . Colonel Cotoia’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of fifth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of fifth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. . So sad to hear about the passing of Bill Wingett today. William T. Wingett was born in Spokane, Washington, and had just celebrated his 98th birthday in July. Bill enlisted in August, 1942, and volunteered for the paratroopers. He was sent to Camp Toccoa, Georgia, and placed in Easy Company, 506th PIR. Just before D-Day he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion HQ Company and jumped into Normandy with them. He landed in a flooded plain behind Utah Beach. His gear was weighing him down and he was just able to get his head above the water to take a breath before he was again dragged under. He had to cut himself free of his equipment The water almost did me in. I was heavily laden and landed in 7 feet deep. I am not a swimmer Bill fought through Normandy, jumped into The Netherlands in September 1944 for Operation Market Garden, fought through the hellish conditions of the Battle of the Bulge, and through Germany, Austria and wars end. He was honorably discharged in Nov 1945. He then reenlisted for 3 years in the 82nd Airborne. He later also served in the Navy. He settled in Oregon and opened his own woodwork shop. Currahee and rest easy, Bill, thank you for your service and sacrifice. Kathleen Bruyere, Navy captain who helped win right for women to serve at sea, dies at 76 Joining a military branch steeped in a tradition of “iron men in wooden ships,” Kathleen Bruyere went on to become a trailblazer for women in the Navy, rising to the rank of captain, shaping policies on sexual discrimination and working to expand opportunities for women to serve “not for self but for country,” in the words of the Navy’s unofficial motto. ... Capt. Bruyere, who specialized in recruiting and personnel, never became a flag officer during her 28 years in the Navy. But she made it easier for other women to advance through the ranks after joining a class-action lawsuit that overturned a ban on women at sea, and she later helped conduct a Navy study that opened up 9,000 sea-duty jobs on 24 ships, according to the Orlando Sentinel. ... We lost another great man today. Edward Babe Heffron died at the age of 90. He is, sadly, the 4th man from Easy Company to die this year, along with Frank Perconte, Earl Mcclung, and JB Stokes. He always said,The real heroes are the fellas that are still buried over there or were brought back home to be buried. He was one of my personal heroes and is among the greatest generation of men to ever live. He will truly be missed. Please keep his best friend Bill Guarnere in mind as he just lost his longtime bestfriend, and foxhole buddy. The amount of respect I have for men like Babe is the greatest amount of respect I will ever have for anybody I will ever meet. You are a hero and will never be forgotten. Stockdale was shot down in his A-4 Skyhawk by the North Vietnamese while commander of Carrier Air Wing Sixteen aboard the carrier Oriskany. As the highest ranking prisoner he was subjected to horrific torture. He led the POWs culture of defiance, finding ways to communicate and govern prisoner behavior that gave them all hope. SPC Steven E. Gutowski - Remembering an American Hero SPC Steven E. Gutowski, 24, of Plymouth, Mass., was Killed In Action on this day in 2011 in Ghazni province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 5th Engineer Battalion, 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Steven was born in Weymouth, MA May 27, 1987 and resided in Plymouth his whole life. He was a 2005 graduate of Plymouth North High School. He ran on the track team and played football during his high school years. He was very involved with the high school marketing club - DECA and helped by running the school store. He also liked to bowl on the weekends and even joined his fathers mens league when he was old enough. Steven held different positions within the Plymouth Recreation Dept. over his high school years and thoroughly enjoyed working with all the kids. In his last year prior to joining the Army the kids dipped their hands in paint and left their handprints on his t-shirt, which he then framed and cherished dearly. He also spent many summer nights working at the Plymouth Long Beach for the town of Plymouth. When he wasnt at the beach or with the kids, he worked Team Ops Security for Gillette Stadium, for 3+ years. He was a huge fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, but his love for the Boston Bruins was second to none: he was so thankful to see them win the Stanley Cup and was able to watch the games by being woken up at 4 a.m. in Afghanistan. Corporal Ciara M. Durkin - Remembering an American Hero Army Corporal Ciara M. Durkin, 30, of Quincy, Mass.; was Killed In Action on this day in 2007 at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. Ciara was assigned to the 726th Finance Battalion, Massachusetts Army National Guard, West Newton, Mass. Durkin was a 1996 graduate of Fontbonne Academy in Milton and joined the Army National Guard in October 2005. Ciara was the type of person who would go out of her way to help someone in need. In April of 2004, they credited Ciara with helping save the life of a contractor who fell 26 feet after slipping off a ladder in the building that she had worked. She was passionate about her job, which included making sure the soldiers finances were in order and that their families were getting benefits. She wanted to be somewhere where she could help. Durkin loved life and her family. While home on leave, she made time for all her nieces and nephews and helped one of her sisters finish some home remolding projects. She talked about buying a home with her brother Pierce. Ciaras family and friends are always in our thoughts, especially today, as they remember their loved one.
