I found something extremely cool and crazy awesome about the Mahua flowers! (This may or may not have been due to me trying to find a flower within reach to eat!) . When anything touches with any pressure on the Mahua flower style, a white powder like substance emerges. I think it might be pollen possibly, but the position of the style then makes no sense because it would be self pollinating?? . I made several slow motion videos and also observed different flowers from different trees around the lodge. It seems that even after the flower has dried and detached from the tree (even fallen flowers) still have some of this pollen that can be seen when you tap or shake the flower. . Why the flowers are pointing downward? . In the second video you can see the pollen flying away with the wind. Maybe the actual pollination agent for the mahua tree is wind? . I also tried to dissect a couple of mahua flowers and found that the anthers point downwards and the small petals hold the pollen in until they are disturbed by the stile, at which time, copious amounts of the pollen is discharged. . Will try to get more information about how the flowers act when touched or agitated by moths or bats or birds. If anyone knows more about this amazing flower please do share! I will be eternally grateful! 😁 . Edit : To add to what I’ve mentioned before, also please see the dissected flower picture. The flowers also have a very stoutly attached Pistil and sepal that remains very well attached to the tree while the fleshy petals are easily detached. The inside of the flower has stamen that face outward and downwards towards the opening helping any pollen that detaches from the stamen to slide down the smooth sides of the petals and collect at the mouth of the flower, waiting for a pollinator, most likely a bat. The bat will dislodge the fleshy petals and get a face/chin/ head full of pollen to then carry to another Mahua tree. The flowers also do not have any nectar at all. . . . . #forsythlodge #mahua #flowers #flower #flowerstagram #pollenseason #spring #springtime #springflowers #excited #new #wow #garden #gardenwalk #stayhome #stayhomestaysafe #summer #summervibes #summertime - @gundasaee on Instagram

Fairy castle cactus (Cereus Tatragonus) is so named because it looks like a Europeon castle with turrets but its way smaller than a real castle so maybe its for fairies. 𝐅𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈 𝐏𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐎 𝙸𝚃𝙰𝙻𝙸𝙰𝙽 𝙳𝙸𝚂𝙷 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Pesto or pesto ala genovese is a sauce originated in Genoa. The ancient Romans used to eat a very similar paste called Moretum which basically herb cheese spread eaten with bread as bread was a affordable food for all that time. All the ingredients were crushed in mortar. Basil leaves as important ingredient was introduced in the receipe after many years around end of 19th century or start of 20th century I guess.
