My dad died on this day 2 years ago. Grateful always for his love and respect for his lifelong fortitude. Because we want our families to know who we are before they die, #repeal377a. Because our families want to know too, but they are confused, misled, and ashamed. This photo was taken by my boyfriend GH when he visited my dad in the hospital. Im so glad that my dad, who had welcomed us to stay with him on our past three visits, saw GH again before he died. This is an extremely private photo that I had never intended to share publicly. But 377A cuts into the most private of our relationships. It divides us from our loved ones. I know my dad was proud of me in the end: GH saw his eyes gleam with pride when I told him about my new book. But I also know that he couldnt help wishing I were not gay. Religion told him Im a sinner. Society told him Im an outcast. The Law told him Im a criminal. The Goldman Family are very dear friends of ours. Mandy joined the Salon Capri family at 17 years old and quickly became one of our own. We owe a great deal of gratitude to Mandy for all her years of hard work. If you know Mandy and the Goldman’s’ you know they have an infectious positivity that cannot be denied. Mandy and Nick have 4 amazing children, Leo, Mateo, Milo and Violet. Mateo (12 years old), was diagnosed in 2016 with B cell A.L.L, a very common form of childhood leukemia. After a month of treatment Mateo failed to get into remission causing him to have a bone marrow transplant in 2017. Mateo was cancer free for 3.5 years but not without suffering from complications from the transplant. His cancer sadly came back July 2020. Mateo will have to endure several months in the hospital, chemo and a second bone marrow transplant. This fundraiser has been established to help ease the burden on Mateo’s parents, so they can focus all their efforts on Mateo’s treatment, healing and spending precious time together. As they face the unthinkable and do all they can to help Mateo beat cancer, if we can help alleviate some of the day to day financial pressures that will mount during this time of critical care, we too will have done our part to support them in a time of sincere need. Today is my birthday Bell. Another year I just don’t feel like celebrating. Remember last year? You felt so bad that we were stuck in Albany PICU for my bday. You made sure to have the nurses and gram help you decorate and have a cake for me. You brought me to tears, which in turn brought you to tears. So much crying. But that was you. No matter what the situation... you’d always go out of your way to make me feel special. How blessed was I to have you?! This year just sucks. Sure, I’m here and healthy and all that shit... but your not, and that sucks. I finally traded in my car. Gram and I bought together again. They joked and said they’d see us both in four years. They aren’t wrong. So I upgraded Harley. The new one is all black Bell! Rims, Toyota symbols... all black. We always said when we trade Harley in we’d get a Quinn. So... I now have Quinn. You’d love her. Time to break her in. I took off to Florida. I had to get away. I just didn’t want to be home and thinking about my new stupid life. Palm trees and the ocean always help. At least the scenery is peaceful. I’m heading to Jhida’s today. He’s excited for me to come and see the new kitchen and the pool. I told him it’s probably going to be hard being there. The only time I’ve ever been there was with you. He wants me to spend the night. I likely will. It will be in a different room though. I wouldn’t want to sleep in our room. 7 years ago today Jensen entered this world. It wasn’t an easy birth. I was induced due to gestational diabetes. My blood sugar level constantly dropped, my blood pressure kept getting too low, my body wouldn’t dilate beyond a 6, my cervix was inflamed and tilted (or something like that), and my IV kept backing up into my hands. I had two epidurals (since the first wore off). 27 hours into this fun I decided I couldn’t take it anymore. I requested a c-section. And good thing I did because Jensen came out 9lbs 1oz! During my surgery I kept throwing up from all the meds. It was horrible. But all of this to say, it was worth the difficult process to have Jensen in my world and I’d do it all over again just for him. I love you so much, Jensen Eagon. You’re the peanut butter to my jelly. My sidekick. Partner in crime. Best friend. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JENSEN!! - @chelseagymcarrey on Instagram

Skinny does NOT mean Healthy. Skinny does NOT mean Strong. ...... Your too thin postpartum Momma probably doesn’t need a pat on the back. She needs support. Encourage the postpartum women in your life to be healthy. Coach them to be strong. Recognize the signs of struggle. Being underweight isn’t a badge of honor, it’s a call for help. We have a responsibility in the fitness industry to educate the importance of a healthy and responsible postpartum recovery. Moms need to take care of themselves! This means: 1️⃣ Establish healthy coping skills (I.e momma doesn’t need her wine!) 2️⃣ Build a strong foundation of strength PRIOR to an emphasis on weight loss (the elliptical can wait!) 3️⃣ Keep eating!! Now is not the time to diet. Especially if you are breastfeeding. 4️⃣ Take time for yourself. (Without feeling guilty or judged) 5️⃣ Ask for help!!! This one is the most important. If you need to ask someone to watch the baby for 2 hours so you can take a nap. Do it. You’ll wake up refreshed and more like yourself! I always thought I’d be that mom nursing in public, challenging any dirty looks with a “you got a problem, buddy?” stare right back. I was kinda looking forward to that, actually. But no, I was faced with a different kind of judgmental stare. That stare that said “why aren’t you breastfeeding?” I was even asked why I was bottle feeding Or what was in the bottle. Seriously. Once at a funeral. Like, what??? I wanted to narrate what I was doing out loud (honestly sometimes I did) for any passers-by who might be wondering. “Mommy’s giving you that sweet sweet momma milk that she pumped for you!” Like... EYE ROLL. Whose business is it, anyway? And yet I felt so self conscious. I wanted breastfeeding to feel empowering. That was my first baby. By my second baby, I had confidence in my decision to exclusively pump AND supplement with formula. I was less stressed because I supplemented, and I was feeling like a rockstar pumping my baby. I felt like I found this amazing loophole because I could bottle feed and anyone else could feed my baby and I was feeling very free because of this. Sometimes you just need time. Let yourself feel the feelings. Confidence may take awhile. Ben and Kristen Beichler run @creambrookfarm, a 243- acre dairy located in the town of Middlebrook in Augusta County. The farm produces 100% grass-fed, lab-tested raw milk, which it sells through a herd share program. Creambrook milk is delivered to drop points throughout the Shenandoah Valley, as well as in and around Crozet/Charlottesville, Richmond, Williamsburg, and more recently into Northern Virginia. Creambrook Farm recently received a 0% SOIL Loan from Virginia Foodshed Capital to help expand and improve its pastures so they can grow their herd share business, without having to rely on baleage from off the farm. Some of the pasture improvement work began in late February as seen in the third picture, when they broke up and removed a mountain of rocks from one of their pastures. While Ben and Kristen have been running Creambrook Farm on their current property since 2017, their farming roots go back many years before that. In fact, Ben and Kristen met at @polyfacefarm where Ben was an apprentice and Kristen a summer intern. They made other stops along the way, including the @thefamilycow in Pennsylvania. My third day on #Route66 brought me into Moriarty, NM where I spotted a 20+ acre yard packed with old cars, many of which from the 1930’s, my era of choice. The owner? His name is #ArchieLewis, an 86 year old New Mexico native who’s love for cars started in 1945 when he bought his first #ModelT for $40, a car he still owns to this day. As you can see, Archie isn’t much of a seller but nevertheless I really enjoyed my afternoon shooting the breeze with him and taking in the stories of a man who has seen it all. This past month has been very difficult for myself, my family, and especially my Dad. A couple weeks ago my brother Andy unexpectedly passed away. Then, late last night my dear sister Chaia peacefully passed away in her sleep due to lung cancer. — Andy has always been such a strong influence in being so lovingly optimistic. I have NO bad memories of Andy. Neither does my Dad. He embodied what it is to live life to the fullest and cherish every moment. I will miss him so much. — Chaia was never bothered by fear and was so positive and faithful. She loved her family and had a great love for animals. Anytime Chaia was around, we were happy. We created fun traditions and never forgot to express our love for each other. I LOVE her so much. I love them both so much and as DIFFICULT as this is I have a STRONG feeling that Andy may have left this earth because his sister would need him more than we would here. They have such complimentary strengths and I KNOW they are embracing each other right now. — I’ve learned a lot in a short time. It is still hard to wrap my head around this tragedy but what I can do is give my thoughts and counsel to any and everyone who have loved ones. Whether friends or family, please do not take for granted opportunities to show love for one another. See opportunities for service as opportunities to strengthen your relationship with those you’re serving. I love many of you who are reading this and once again, CHERISH your family and/or friends. Do your kids play sports? If they do, do you coach their team? I found this part of my Dad journey very rewarding. I have coached thousands of kids in a variety of sports and I have had the privilege of coaching my boys through high school. Not only did it allow me enjoy that quality time with my kids, but it helped me build a solid bond with my boys. However, if you are going to coach your child’s team, there are a few things you need to keep in mind so that the experience is a positive one. 1) You must separate the coach-parent roles as much as you possible. This may be difficult, but it is necessary. Not only is this important for you, but it’s also important that your child knows when to refer to you as coach and when to refer to you as dad. 2) Treat all players equally and fairly. While you are coaching, think of your child just as you would any other team member. Coaching this way will earn the respect of all of your players and their parents. 3) It is imperative that you pay attention to your relationship with your child off the court or field. Once the game ends, you need to take off your coach hat and put your parent hat back on. They need you to be supportive of them and not critical. 4) Talk to your child and discuss their feelings about you coaching their team. When they are younger, they may enjoy having their parent as coach, but in adolescence, kids tend to want their independence from their parents, and this may not be the best or most appropriate time to coach your own child. 5) Educate yourself about the sport, only coach if you really understand the game and do not have any pre-conceived ideas about your own child. This can be an enjoyable journey. Just follow the rules I mentioned above and it will be a great experience for you and your child. Today is an important day for our family. It marks Aiden’s 116th day home from the hospital, which means we have officially spent more time at home than in the NICU! It will always be difficult to think about the first few months of our son’s life. Just now, for the first time, we’ve begun unpacking the trauma, and viewing the experience from a distance that feels safe enough to attempt the process of healing, and we know we will never be the people we were before. We watched our son fight to survive for 115 days. We saw other families lose their children. We are endlessly grateful for how well he did in the hospital. Now, Aiden is thriving! He is a happy, smiley, giggly boy and it feels like he is growing everyday! He has reached every developmental goal set for him. He looks at the world around him with wonder and excitement. He’s a beautiful healthy kid and we couldn’t ask for anything more than that. In the fight to end domestic violence, you meet so many incredible and courageous advocates. People like Ana Estevez, who is from the San Gabriel Valley. Three years ago, her 5-year-old son, Aramazd Piqui Andressian Jr., was murdered by his own father. Before that happened, Ana fought to protect her son during contentious family court hearings. But certain evidence describing psychologically damaging and abusive behavior, or coercive control, was largely ignored. Thats why Ana and other advocates are supporting my Senate Bill 1141, which is now being heard in the State Assembly. Meet baby Christopher, born at our Center for Childbirth in May of this year! We received this adorable photo along with a lovely note from his mama, an excerpt of which we are sharing here! I was induced and my stay at the hospital was long. However, that gave me the opportunity to meet several of the Labor and Delivery nurses that cared for me during my stay. Each nurse was amazing and I can’t thank you guys enough...I also really loved and appreciated all the care I received along with Christopher in the mother/baby section of the hospital!...Thank you again for everything! Eu nem ia entrar nessa onda de 70 anos da TV, embora eu deva toda a minha vida profissional a ela! Mas me lembrei dessa foto, que mostra o poder dessa “caixinha mágica”. Meus avós, meus pais... não tiveram a oportunidade de fazer uma faculdade. Batalharam absurdo pra que eu pudesse. Na juventude, eu sempre disse que estudaria Direito e minha vó, essa sentadinha aí, sonhou que teria um Doutor na família. Quando eu anunciei que faria Comunicação, ela chorou. Chorou de verdade, de descer lágrima. Naquele momento, eu não tinha argumentos nem vivência pra tentar acalmá-la. Nem por isso, ela deixou de me apoiar, que fique claro. Mas minha vó só foi ter noção de que o neto (eu fui neto único até os 20 anos e morei na casa dela até os 14) estava seguindo uma carreira, estava construindo uma história quando me viu pela primeira vez na TV. Desde então, me pedia pra avisar todas as vezes, pra que ela não perdesse. Contava com orgulho quando os vizinhos comentavam que me viram. E pendurou essa foto que eu dei de presente quando saí de Minas e vim pra Paraíba. Até hoje, vez ou outra ela senta lá na sala simples da casa onde vive há quase 50 anos pra assistir. Os sofás não cabem... as portas estão empenadas e é muita goteira no teto. Só Deus sabe quantos baldes nós já colocamos aí em dias de chuva... rs.
