My obsession with Anthony Moores shelved 1976 Virgin Records album Out has finally manifested in its first ever vinyl release, coming OUT November 2020 via Drag City! After many discussions with Mr. Moore and taking the album to various labels to find/generate interest, I was finally able (thanks to Emmett Kelly 🙌) to liaise Anthony with Drag City who took the ball and ran with it. The album, recorded in 1975, did actually see a sketchy release in the 90s as a cd and with new album art, but this is the first time it will be on vinyl and with the original album art by Hipgnosis. Vorige week werd ik gevraagd een cover te spelen in de 00’s week van Qmusic. Ik koos voor ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ van Keane. At that point, I had that feeling of finding a deeper meaning in life or for oneself through music. After that moment, it happened with other music and records too— this feeling of newfound truth or understanding, but I guess it’s that first time you have that feeling that it sticks the most. It was probably just the perfect album for me as a teenager. Pretty dramatic, mysterious, rich and rebellious in a lot of not so obvious ways. Also, I’m definitely not the only one whose had this experience with this record. It’s special. I think that this album planted the seed that made me want to become, not just a musician (I have been a bass player in a lot of bands for many years), but also a songwriter and singer as a way of expressing myself. I’ve heard people praise it from the very first listen and even saying it’s better than The Satanist. I haven’t been playing it obsessively, but rather given it a few spins in between other albums and it just keeps on growing and gradually revealing itself to me. I am impressed! ILYAYD is a more mature and complete album than I’ve ever seen Behemoth deliver, it’s multifaceted and interesting from beginning to end and I am thrilled to see them use clean singing, both acoustic and Spanish guitar! The Satanist is one of my gateway albums into black metal, but feels like a much more sinister album while ILYAYD has more sides to it to appreciate. A regular on the global Techno scene, Arnaud’s productions are densely packed and built with attitude. Collisions opens the EP at full pace as modulating synths gather momentum, building in intensity with every step. Mystery steps up next, another energy packed affair that doesn’t pull any punches as it’s hypnotic elements, paired with hammering percussion deliver a hard, driving track. Picker slows things down momentarily but doesn’t drop out on intensity. Constantly modulating and warped synths dominate this more hypnotic track. Parallel Razor closes out with more aggressive elements taking the forefront. Can’t believe this album has been around for a whole decade!🎈🎁🕺🏽 Some little known gems: - The metaphorical meaning of ‘Lost Where I Belong’ was really me trying to find my way as an artist and at times feeling completely lost doing the thing I loved the most. - The main food that fuelled the album was jerk chicken bagels from Ridley Rd Market in Dalston. Me and @si_bonobo got through a hella lot of those! - ‘Darker Than Blue’ and ‘Something In The Silence’ was written about the worst boyfriend I ever had! TRUE STORY!! But hey, it’s paid the rent so I’m not complaining 😂 - The beat in ‘Draw The Stars’ was made recording the sounds of pen clicks, lighters and anything we could find in @si_bonobo’ kitchen. - I will always be forever grateful to @matthewwilliamson for loaning me the clothes I wore on my album cover (and all the singles!). I wrote to about a million designers and he was the only one to get back to me! Lastly, the hustle it took for this album to happen was unreeeeeal!
