Let’s talk Cluster Headache! • The fall season is the most common trigger for the onset of cluster cycles. The term “Cluster” refers to the fact that these attacks happen in groups • Cluster headache is the least common but probably the most painful headache condition. It occurs mostly in men starting between age 20-40 years. During a cluster cycle, though brief, excruciating pain recurs between 1 every other day to 8 times per day lasting 15 minutes to 3 hours each attack. Cluster cycles can last from a few week to a few months and are usually separated by remission periods, which (🤞🏼) can last years! 10-15% of cluster headache sufferers experience chronic symptoms without remissions • Cluster headache manifests as unilateral (one sided) pain that occurs near or above the bone framing the eye and/or at he temple. Associated symptoms of cluster headache occur on the same side of the head that the pain is taking place: red or teary eyelid swelling, forehead and facial sweating, tearing, eyelid drooping, abnormally small pupil, nasal congestion and runny nose • A cluster headache can be successfully treated in most cases by individualizing acute(emergent) and preventative treatment. ISRAEL ANNOUNCES FIRST ANTIDOTE AGAINST COVID-19. They announce an antibody that neutralizes the coronavirus, even in those infected. The Israel Biological Research Institute (IIBR) and the Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that the development phase of an antibody that would be effective in neutralizing SARS-Cov-2, known as the coronavirus, is now complete. Through its Twitter account, the Israel Defense Ministry confirmed the development of what could become the first antidote against covid-19. As the entities explained, now the antidote passes from the development phase to that of acceptance by the pharmaceutical companies, which would allow it to be mass produced and marketed. Scientific development would consist of few proteins harmful to the human body and has already been tested in patients with risky cases of coronavirus. In addition, they ensure that the IIBR is the first institution to achieve scientific progress that meets the three parameters: 3 key parameters: 1. A refined, new monoclonal antibody that contains an exceptionally low proportion of harmful proteins. 2. The antibody can neutralize the coronavirus 3. The antibody was specifically tested in aggressive cases of coronavirus Meanwhile, the Government of Israel announced the complete removal of mobility restrictions imposed on citizens. The Festival will now take place from 29th – 31st August (August Bank Holiday Weekend). Thanks to the support of BCP and Christchurch Town Council, we have secured the venue and have agreement for road closures for the new dates. COVID-19 You will be aware of the constantly changing situation regarding COVID-19 and now that the government has moved to the ‘delay’ phase of its strategy, the goal appears to be to slow down the spread of the disease so that the peak occurs during May and June. From the Festival’s perspective, regardless of whether by then the government has ordered a ban on large gatherings (which in our view seems very likely), our feeling is that this would be a catastrophic time period to be trying to deliver a large scale public event, particularly with regard to the health of visitors, traders and our staff. Our aim has always been to deliver an event that supports small independent businesses with the opportunity to enjoy fantastic trading conditions as well as creating an exciting experience for tens of thousands of visitors. We do not believe that the current dateline will now offer this. We are obviously very sorry that we have had to take this decision and for the inconvenience it will cause. PTSD Tied to a Doubling of Dementia Risk #PTSD is associated with up to a 2-fold increased risk of dementia, new research shows. Investigators found that individuals with PTSD had a 61% higher risk of dementia, and pooled data from two particular studies showed that PTSD was associated with a doubling of #dementia risk. These results provide important new evidence of how traumatic experience can impact brain health and how the long-term effects of trauma may impact the brain in many ways, increasing vulnerability to cognitive decline and dementia, senior investigator Vasiliki Orgeta, PhD, associate professor, University College of London, UK, told Medscape Medical News. Our study allows us to conclude for the first time that PTSD is a strong and potentially modifiable risk factor for dementia, she said. Keratoprosthesis is a surgical procedure where a diseased cornea is replaced with an artificial cornea. Traditionally, keratoprosthesis is recommended after a person has had a failure of one or more donor corneal transplants. More recently, a less invasive, non-penetrating artificial cornea has been developed which can be used in more routine cases of corneal blindness. While conventional cornea transplant uses donor tissue for transplant, an artificial cornea is used in the Keratoprosthesis procedure. The surgery is performed to restore vision in patients suffering from severely damaged cornea due to congenital birth defects, infections, injuries and burns. Keratoprotheses are made of clear plastic with excellent tissue tolerance and optical properties. They vary in design, size and even the implantation techniques may differ across different treatment centers. The procedure is done by ophthalmologists, often on an outpatient basis. Although many keratoprostheses have been developed, only four models are currently in commercial use: the Boston keratoprosthesis, Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis (OOKP), AlphaCor and the KeraKlear Artificial Cornea.
