She studied at the #Bauhaus from the very beginning, was also part of the exhibition commission for the Bauhaus exhibition, but left the Bauhaus to return to Rostock in 1924. Here she became a member of the Rostock Artists Association (Vereinigung Rostocker Künstler) and the Economic Association of Visual Artists (Wirtschaftlicher Verband Bildender Künstler). From 1925 to 1931 Dörte Helm regularly participated in the exhibitions of the Rostock Artists Association and was commissioned with the interior design of the Kurhaus Warnemünde. In 1930 Dörte Helm married the journalist Heinrich Heise (1899–1944) and soon moved to Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel. From 1933 on she could not continue her work as she was occupied with a professional ban by the Reich Chamber of Culture Act as a Half-Jewish. In February 1941 Dörte Helm-Heise died of the flu. Мы очень сильно зависим от мнения окружающих, не беря во внимание тот факт, что эти самые окружающие могут быть далеко не святыми, и просто придумали себе оправдания для тех ошибок которые они также совершили и продолжают совершать. Как-то давно, я где-то прочитал цитату: Беспокойся больше о своей совести чем о своей репутации, ибо твоя совесть это тот кто ты есть, а репутация это то, что думают о тебе другие, а то что они думают о тебе, это их проблемы. Вывод: мы не всемогущие чтобы всегда быть идеальными во всем, это безусловно не означает что надо топить щенков или измываться над слабыми, но реагировать на то что думают другие, и тем самым ставить себе блоки в голове не стоит. - @ivanvyuchnov on Instagram

This bust of Augustus by an unidentified artist was owned by Henry Flagler and is original to the Library at Whitehall, where it can been seen today. Caesar Augustus was one of Henry Flaglers heroes, and indicative of a broader nineteenth-century American interest in ancient Rome as a prototype for the great society America seemed to be becoming. Gilded Age individuals, such as Flagler, saw America as the natural culmination of an evolving Western civilization. Another, much larger bust of Caesar Augustus is also on display at Whitehall. A DECADE ENCOUNTERS with Eddy Susanto (@eddysu.santo ) Lives and works in Yogyakarta, Eddy Susanto is one of ArtSociates’s most important artists. He studied graphic design before embarking in his art career; this possibly influences his prudent, erudite approach in art. His artworks are created by conducting extensive research on certain points in history, exploring the notions of historical narratives and the development of identity. They portray fragments of local history parallel to the world’s history, interpolating the cultural identity of the East into the historical elements of the West. Eddy’s paintings mostly incorporate Javanese passages in their native Hanacaraka script, taken from several important Javanese pieces of literature. His series of Sembilan Mata Hari Centhini (2012), for example, was created around the analogy found between the character of Mata Hari and the dance movements described in Serat Centhini. His works titled Java of Dürer (2011)—the artwork that earned him the accolade of Bandung Contemporary Art Award #2 in 2012—replaced Albrecht Dürer’s engraved lines with passages from Babad Tanah Jawi. Garden City Company Fourth in this series by Suzie Alvey. It features the next developer of Garden City. After Garden Citys founder, Alexander Turney Stewart passed away in 1876, Cornelia Clinch Stewart, his widow, continued his goal of turning it into a planned community. She died in 1886. The Stewarts had no children, so her heirs were on her brother, James J. Clinchs side and her three half sisters side: Emma, Julia and Louise Clinch, as well as Henry Hilton, her lawyer. Her relatives inherited property in New York City and about 7,500 square acres of the Hempstead Plains, including our nascent town, with a value at the time of $2,500,000. It would equal $70 million in cash today. However, factoring in the value of real estate in New York City and those 7,500 square acres now, it would be worth much more in 2020, probably in the billions. Cornelias relatives formed the Garden City Company in 1893 to continue our towns development. 5,000 acres east of Clinton Road out to Bethpage were empty. The land was divided and incorporated as the Hempstead Plains Company and The Merillon Estates. The remaining 2,600 acres west of Clinton Road and east of Old Garden City became the Eastern Section under the Garden City Company. The officers and directors of the Garden City Company were Charles Clinch, James Clinch Smith, Devereux Emmet, Frank Sayre Osborne, Stanford White, Maxwell Butler, Horace Russell and Allen Evarts. These names are recognizable to residents: Clinch Avenue and Stewart Avenue were named after Cornelia Clinch Stewart and Alexander Turney Stewart, of course. Elisabeth has been proudly working at MMC for 18 years, holding a variety of positions until she graduated from nursing school. Since then, she has worked on the Mother and Baby Unit before transferring to Labor and Delivery four years ago. Elisabeth’s impressive educational plans include two degrees at Rutgers: the BSN in 2022 and MSN in 2024. Currently, she chairs the unit’s newly developed Shared Governance Committee that has successfully changed policies and updated departmental guidelines. Elizabeth has worked closely with the department’s sister unit to improve the process of transferring to the hospital-wide Magnet Conference Group, her unit’s Leadership Committee, and is the recipient of numerous PRIDE awards. Mt. SAC is extending the deadline for students to withdraw from 2020 Fall Semester classes to Sunday, Dec. 6, for regular 16-week classes. For short-term courses, students can drop through the day prior to the last scheduled class. Going forward, students who drop will receive an Excused Withdrawal (EW) mark rather than a Withdrawal (W). Students who drop their classes before the deadline will automatically receive refunds, unless they received a fee waiver. An EW mark will not count toward the limits on how many times students can repeat a class. In addition, it will not impact progress status. However, an EW may have implications for students receiving federal benefits (including veteran’s benefits) and students planning to transfer to a university. Therefore, students are encouraged to speak with a counselor online about their options before withdrawing from classes. In the historic days of the Indian civilisation, a formal system of education did not exist. What prevailed were Gurukul, which later led to the emergence of two major systems of education --- Vedic and Buddhist. The Vedic system focused on the knowledge of the Vedas, Vedanga and Upanishads whereas the Buddhist system preached the ideologies of major Buddhist schools. These forms of education primarily focused on experience-based knowledge rather than sticking to the textual form of it. Even in ancient India, Debates and Discussions were a crucial part of learning and education. It taught the students the important values and morals to life. Education for women also played an important role back in the day. These educated women were divided into two major groups --- Sadyodwahas, women who pursued their education until they got married and Brahmavadinis, those who never got married and dedicated their life to education. But soon after, with the onset of colonial British rule, the ancient Indian education system was abandoned. India soon began to follow the British system of education which failed to evolve over the year under the evolution of society. Large tracts of available land for farming along the railways was a huge incentive for immigrants to Vancouver Island (and Canada in general) at the end of the nineteenth century. With increasing mechanization in Europe driving farmers off their land, overcrowded cites, and political upheaval displacing marginalized groups, there were many folks looking to start a new life. In the next posts, we’ll look at the activities of the Vancouver Island Fruit Lands Ltd., which was instrumental in bringing many families to this area, to do just that.     The first photograph is the front page of their glossy promotional brochure, published in conjunction with the CPR, to encourage mainly British and French settlers to start up a new venture on the Island. The second photograph shows how favourably soil and climate conditions here compared to Oregon, and the last image shows the tracts of land available for claiming and clearing, with plots varying in size from 10 to 40 acres. The company helped with travel to the island, accommodation, and advice on how to get started.       Given that farming has been such a large part of life in this area, we wondered if you have any stories about early farming that you can share with us. I didnt like the squeaky E string on the violin, and my parents said no way to the flute (my dad was a band director, so he knew how many of those there were!), but they did said, If you play the viola, you will get a job. True story! Plus, I just enjoy being the middle voice of the orchestra. The harmony is always much more interesting than the melody! 𝙄𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙, 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙧 𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙖? Brahms, Brahms, and more Brahms! But, one of the best pieces for the violas is Faures Requiem. It prominently features the violas, as there are no violins except for one pesky soloist. 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙪𝙨 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠? I have volunteered with the Humane Society and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, but my volunteer work with the Red Cross in Nashville was life changing. I started volunteering there one month before 9/11 and watched the need for the Red Cross grow quickly. Whether it was supporting families at a house fire at 3:00 in the morning, helping with blood drives, or natural disasters like Katrina, I felt like I was making a real contribution to our city and beyond. Congratulations to Dr. Jörg Matthias Determann, Associate Professor of History at VCUarts Qatar, on the launch of his book titled ‘Islam, Science and Extraterrestrial Life: The Culture of Astrobiology in the Muslim World’, published by I. B. Tauris, an imprint of Bloomsbury. . . In an unprecedented cross-campus collaboration, Dr. Determann worked with research assistants drawn from five universities within Education City – Linda binti Ridzuan Chun (GU-Q), Anusheh Zaman (UCL-Qatar), İrfan Batur (HBKU), Mosammat Samiha Sadeka (CMU-Q), and Shima Aeinehdar and Maphuza Akter (VCUarts Qatar) – who were hired through VCUarts Qatar’s Student Employment Program. Additionally, Dr. Determann was supported in his research by Walli Ullah from GU-Q, who volunteered his services and expertise towards the project. . . Along with Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Marjorie Harris Carr, Marjory Stoneman Douglas completes the trio of Marjories who loom large in the Florida’s heritage. She joined her father’s Miami newspaper around 1910 as society editor and later had her own column and published poetry and fiction. During World War I, she served in Europe with the American Red Cross and then worked for years as a reporter and editor in Florida. When a publisher asked her to write a book about the Miami River, she instead wrote about the Everglades, calling her book The Everglades: River of Grass. It was published in 1947. In those days, no one understood ecology or the importance of water to the Everglades, she later recalled. She was 79 years old when she founded the Friends of the Everglades, which continues to fight for the environment. She also supported women’s right to vote and racial equality. (You guys are the absolute best) last month was my best month of writing (thank you to all my readers!!) and it’s really funny and amazing because I wouldn’t exactly say I have a whole lot of ‘strategy’ with this thing. . . I try my best to write and post in a way that feels most honest and true to me. There’s a lottt of BS out there. . . So just thinking that when I add a little more strategy in here. The impact I’m going to be able to make is going to be 🔥 Together we’ll change the paradigm of dating and what it means to have healthy relationships. With ourselves with others.
