Lo más bonito de mi vida: MI FAMILIA💎 Cuando estaba más chama, vivía con mi mamá y mi hermano; mis padres se separaron cuando ambos estábamos pequeños (8años aprox) y hasta los 17-18 años en los que estás en plena adolescencia y convirtiéndote en alguien mayor de edad, siempre daba por sentado la compañía de mi familia. Estaban ahí, todo el tiempo. A los 16 estuve medio año estudiando fuera del País, a los 20 me mudé de ciudad (Maracaibo a Caracas) y desde entonces no he vuelto a vivir con ninguno de mis padres; también dejé de ver a mis hermanos, a mis tíxs, primxs, abuelxs y toda la gente que conforma mi familia. Dejé de verlos cotidianamente y dolió. Aún siento nostalgia 🥺. Escribo esto porque cuando estamos chamos, no valoramos demasiado a nuestra gente. Cuando ya no estamos con ellos, nos damos cuenta de lo mucho que nos hacen falta. Ya con mi propia familia, me doy cuenta la importancia de mantenernos unidos... extraño mucho a toda mi familia, de verdad lo hago 💛. Often times new parents are surprised at how little it takes to feed their newborn. When they see the small amount of colostrum their body is producing in the first days after birth they will sometimes worry if that is in fact enough. Most of the time, it is! Your newborn only needs about 1-1.5tsp (5-7ml) of your colostrum in the first two days of life. By day 3 they are eating more, about 3/4oz-1oz (22ml-30ml) per feeding. More times than not your body is making enough for your newborn in those first few days. If you’re pregnant and planning to breastfeed, get informed about how your body works, what helps this process, what can hinder the process and how much your baby needs. The loss of a child under any circumstances is heartbreaking, but when that child dies by suicide, and without showing signs of being troubled, the grief and utter helplessness must be crippling. That awful question: what did I miss? On a rainy Saturday night this month, two amazing people welcomed me into their home and opened their hearts. We’d never met but they were willing to tell me about Jonah, their smiling, adored 14-year-old son for whom something in this world became too much. It took everything in me not to weep with them, but Peter and Fiona Waterson didn’t need reminding of the enormity of their sorrow. They were living it. On the drive home, I pulled over to the side of the road and sobbed. I wept while transcribing the interview, and I wept while writing. Through their incredible goodness, Fiona and Peter trusted me with their story, as Father Michael Twigg, rector of Iona College, trusted me with his school’s. Jonah was not the only young Ionian to suicide this year. Twin tragedies, seven weeks apart. Both “diabolical mysteries”. It is the Watersons’ hope that by sharing what happened to Jonah they can stem the rising tide of suicide among our precious children. “My body can do this” I feel like this has been my mantra for the past months. Going through so much loss with IVF is hard. We lost 7 embryos including one miscarriage and finally, on our last transfer, we were successful. But how can I trust my body? I feel like it’s failed me so many times that at this point I just walk into appointments assuming things arent going to be where they should be. . No one told me I would feel this way. No one told me that I would feel so scared and have so much anxiety after becoming pregnant again. I thought once I had a positive test that would be it, we would be safe, but these feelings of anxiety and worry havent gone away. And in fact, they are more present now that we are weeks into this pregnancy. . During IVF I was so closely monitored. I went into the clinic every week, sometimes two or three times a week. And now, I’m supposed to just trust that things are going well? For three years I was monitored, I had countless blood draws and I was always told how things were going on a weekly basis. But when you’re pregnant all that seems to go out the window. . But I suppose that’s how this part of the process works. I graduate from the IVF clinic and then I’m supposed to trust and assume things are going ok.
