Lets go to the Lyons House in Carberry for this #ManitobaMonday! This building was built during the 1890s with a combination of Italianate and Queen Anne structure styles. The politician Robert Fern Lyons and his family were first to occupy the home. Sadly, this grand home is now vacant and crumbling, wishing for someone to restore it back to its former glory. 📸 Carberry Plains Museum #carberry #Manitoba #threatenedheritage #historichome #heritage #buildinghistory - @heritagewpg on Instagram

For #tbt, some old building survey photos of Mount Pleasant Mansion (1-5) and Woodford Mansion (6-10) as Philadelphia celebrates World Heritage Week!! Besides Independence Hall (one of Americas few urban UNESCO World Heritage Sites), were a World Heritage City because of the rich array of historic buildings and cultural sites that are designated as National Historic Landmarks (NHL), including the parks gems of Georgian architecture: Mount Pleasant (designated 1974) and Woodford (designated 1967). Thanks to the City, the Fairmount Park Conservancy, the stewardship organizations, and countless other people who have dedicated their time, energy, and funds to preserving these outstanding landmarks in the East Park! Although what happened overnight set in motion the events of the following day, the greatest losses started in the early morning hours of June 1st. The gun battle that lasted throughout the night kept immediate threats to black Tulsa at bay but by daybreak the tables started to turn in the most disastrous way. Many Greenwood citizens either fled for safety or were defending their property until being outnumbered by the oncoming mob. Some escaped unharmed while others who peacefully surrendered were still shot. Police and National Guard began taking the remaining blacks into protective custody but in the process left Greenwood vulnerable to all out attack. As the white mob marched into Greenwood from all sides, their mission seemed clear: after looting the properties, they were to be set on fire. This was repeated until 40 blocks of Tulsa was reduced to rubble and ash. *These photographs were taken on June 1, 1921. I will be sharing more of these in an exhibit called “21 for ‘21” opening January 1, 2021 at @bws.gallery . The exhibition will showcase 21 composite images from the 1921 #tulsaracemassacre. More information coming soon. Stay up to date with the event page on FB. ALSO: The important thing to remember is that Greenwood did rebuild and the events of 1921 are less than 1% of the districts long history. I will be sharing more of the renaissance and the effects of Urban Renewal soon. #tulsa #tulsahistory #greenwood #okhistory #tulsaphotographer #tulsaphotography #thisisoklahoma #photography #compositephotography #history #1921 #racemassacre #blackwallstreet - @tulsapast on Instagram

On this day in 1942, the Rohwer Concentration Camp was opened in Arkansas. On this site, approximately 8,475 Japanese Americans would be incarcerated in the Deep South. That being said, the incarcerees would be forced to face the harsh weather that comes with being imprisoned in a swamp. It was due to these conditions that it was not unheard of for the camp to flood. Aside from avoiding the swarms of mosquitos, the incarcerees of Rohwer found ways to keep themselves occupied. For example, 442nd trainees from Camp Shelby would often visit for baseball games with the teams in Rohwer. Todays image depicts a flooded block at Rowher Concentration Camp. Enclosures follows @cravenfaults’ debut album Erratics & Unconformities. These 37 minutes of music are the start of the next journey. New terrain and more refined methods of travel. Dark clouds gathering. We’re out of the blocks quickly. German engineering carries us swiftly across the moors on a Saturday night rendezvous. Two almost identical mushroom shaped rocks are the destination. There’s evidence of previous rituals carried out. We’ll let the numbers do the talking. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 2 3 4 5 6 7 1 3 4 5 6 7 1 2 Two hours due north we go in search of the power source. Cascading. An experiment in performance over a fixed point. Tape loops recorded in 1967 at The Philadelphia College of Art. Woodwind purchased from a charity shop in Yeadon. The concept of work was forgotten. We’re back on the millstone grit of the Mid Craven Fault for an exercise in simplification. Familiar territory. Sometimes the theory isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and there’s still power in hammering a single note over two chords – a lesson learnt from the American South in the late 40s and early 50s and boiled down in the late 60s. Olympic Sound Studios, April 1967. The Hit Factory, April 1969. On Erratics & Unconformities, Craven Faults often found a calm inner space in the vistas. Here the tensions of the early EPs return, with a focus on how human ‘progress’ has impacted and shaped the landscape. How the land was divided now shapes our present and future, and retracing that journey is particularly pertinent. Enclosures will be released November 27th and is available to pre-order on limited edition black vinyl and limited edition blue vinyl (Bandcamp and Norman Records exclusive). There is a super-limited cork/rubber turntable mat + blue vinyl bundle available only on Bandcamp. 🔗 in bio Artwork by @split_design #cravenfaults #yorkshire #doublerstones #minialbum #analogue #producer #ambient #electronic #erratics #unconformities #newmusic #synth #limitededition #vinyl - @theleaflabel on Instagram

The Abraham Trostle Farm was greatly impacted by the battle. The stand of the 9th Massachusetts Battery on July 2 left the property in tatters, including a shell hole in the barn that is still there today. The damage to the property impacted the Trostle family for years after the battle as they searched for a way to recoup their loses. Catherine Trostle, Abraham Trostle’s wife, went to a notary to file her claim on October 20, 1868 since she could not read or write. She represented the family since Abraham was admitted into a lunatic asylum after the war. In her testimony, she stated there were over 100 horses across the yard and the home was used as a field hospital, signing her statement with an x. Also included in the damage claim was 16 tons of hay, 20 acres of oats and corn lost, 2000 fence rails, and destruction of the farm lane. According to the claim, Catherine cited $3,344.77 ($61,025.82 today) worth of property damage to her $5,200 ($95,181.24) estate. Agent A. F. Nye, the claims agent assigned, was extremely hesitant to give a definite answer to Catherine’s claim. He argued that he had no eyewitnesses to attest for any of the damage was caused by Union forces. The claim investigation lasted until February 2, 1882. Quartermaster General Montgomery Meigs ultimately decided “the nature of damages from ordinary casualties of war, and not within the jurisdiction of the Quarter Master General under Act of July 4, 1864, and the claim therefor is not allowed.” Catherine Trostle filed multiple claims over 10 years for $3,344.77, she never received a cent. #battlefieldbuildings #findyourpark #gettysburgnationalmilitarypark - @gettysburgnps on Instagram
