#throwback “Avatar” è quel film che ha portato gli effetti speciali ad un livello superiore, tracciando una linea netta tra quello che era il cinema di fantascienza prima e dopo che James Cameron realizzasse questo kolossal campione d’incassi. La perfezione quasi maniacale che c’è stata per la realizzazione del digitale non sminuisce però la storia del film: potente, emozionante, coinvolgente, portando lo spettatore in un sogno fantastico, etereo e lontano. In molti criticarono la trama, considerandola troppo scontata e banale; ritennero che senza il titanico lavoro del CGI e del post produzione il film valesse poco. Invece, nonostante l’ambientazione aliena e distante da noi, tratta un argomento che più volte si è ripetuto nella nostra storia e ha macchiato le coscienze di molti...Il film riesce sempre, ogni volta che lo si guarda, a farsi apprezzare e a non risultare nè lento nè pesante, nonostante la lunga durata degna di ogni kolossal che si rispetta. In conclusione “Avatar” è un’ottima pellicola sotto ogni aspetto e tutti dovrebbero vederla almeno una volta nella loro vita, anche chi si oppone all’utilizzo eccessivo del digitale. Indimenticabile la prima volta che andai a vederlo al cinema: almeno un’ora di fila per l’acquisto dei biglietti, la sala piena di persone, chi diceva che l’aveva già visto, chi aveva il cugino che era stato alla prima...insomma un’atmosfera che solo in pochi altri film ho percepito. #ArarioGalleryExhibition #KIAF2020 #FeaturedArtists ⠀ Today’s KIAF OVR 2020 artist from Arario is BOO Jihyun. ⠀ BOO Jihyun creates three-dimensional and installation works using motives from the sea and the environment based on memories of her childhood spent on Jeju Island. The artist’s inspirations from the sea as well as her autobiographical memories and experiences are amplified through the visualization of her works. By reinterpreting immaterial elements of the sea, including light and darkness, sound, and horizon, through abandoned boats and discarded fishing lamps, the artist questions the condensed timeline of the past, present, and future. BOO, who continually researches topics relating to environmental issues and sustainable art, has been invited to participate in various international land-nature installation art biennales and events such as the Vladivostok Biennale. ⠀ “Net-Being” (2020), which is currently on view in KIAF OVR 2020 has been produced using discarded fishing lamps, which is representative of BOO’s practice. ⠀ Dimly glowing in the darkness, the fishing lights are a reflection of the artist’s fond memories of the fishing boats floating on the shimmering Jeju sea in the depths of night.
