Its strange to know youre going to have a 50 percent tiny clone soon. Even stranger to realize your own parents are really just adult children. We all are. No matter who you are, everyone is carrying some scars from being a kid that never really heal, or take a lot of work to heal. A lot have come up for me knowing little beans arrival is creeping closer. And its been on my mind a lot lately on how I will raise a child in this day and age. How will I explain gender (or lack thereof)? Social inequality for people of color? Climate change? How we are so fortunate and others are not? How to appreciate everything we have? And, how on top of all that, Ill explain these things without scarring or discounting our childs voice. Sheesh, its a lot. I only slept a few hours just thinking of it last night. Fortunately I have my wonderful partner @thornacus whom I know is caring so well for our baby and whom keeps me grounded and gets me out of my fragile noggin in times like this. Although it sounds scary to be pulled toward the bottom of the ocean it really is a magical feeling. You are able to completely relax your body which conserves oxygen, and makes a long dive feel peaceful and relaxing. Once you reach the bottom, there is even more fun to be had. Your feet will settle into the sand, your hands will fall to your side, and you are able to “walk” along. I imagine that walking on the bottom of the ocean is a similar feeling to walking on the moon. Just like the restless sea my mind is spinning these days... in search of answers. Yet, with every answer more questions surface. I am wondering what the point of all this is. Can I really post another smoothie bowl or cookie recipe while the world is facing a never-ending stream of problems WE ourselves have caused? Food waste and overconsumption over here, while hunger & poverty still exist. Countries making the same mistakes we westerners made years ago. A plastic collapse destroying our oceans and biodiversity. The urge to always grow, sell more, buy more, achieve more, own more. And then, self-optimisation in every aspect of life as an industry - which I highly doubt is actually helping us live more mindful lives. Where is the compassion? Where is the honest concern for the people in our surroundings? The care for our planet, future generations? Yes, call me a pessimist (today). But I am exhausted. Its just hard to stay positive. And to find the strength to continue voicing my ideas & concerns (in a non-accusing way) no matter where I go or whom I talk to, not just here on social media. The more I shift to topics that actually move me the less people I reach. Not that I care about the number of followers, Ive left that mindset far behind me. Shopping new clothes every week cause its just so much fun, or even worse, wearing a feminist t-shirt thats most likely been sown by an exploited woman in a sweatshop far far away. Finding the to-go lunch options packaged in single-use plastics just way too convenient to give up. But sure, we simply dont have enough time to think about all this - despite all the handy tools we use for self-organisation...
