« TOTKV OH-ONVKV » STORY OF THE FIRE - told through Seminole patchwork. + The first photo is a landscape of mountains and trees on fire under a starry sky. + The second photo shows animals (birds) escaping and water being used to extinguish the fire. + I’ve been really preoccupied with everything that I haven’t felt like making art. This piece helped me start to process all the anxiety I’m having right now. + [EDIT]: I couldn’t think of way to articulate what I’ve been feeling and seeing with these fires. How could I describe it without using photos? Because I don’t have any and while it’s the reality of our situation that doesn’t mean seeing those photos of the earth burning aren’t hard to look at. I used patchwork designs as a way to talk about fires that could be “read” as both a story but also as a photograph of the landscape. I would like to sit down and take the time to thank everyone that has supported me on my journey to pursue my dreams. I am currently experiencing a time of massive growth within my life and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of each and every person, the good and bad. It’s been hard. I had an emotional day yesterday, and at first I was so incredibly angry and frustrated because I felt that all of the world was against me after a ton of hard work that I’d put in. However, I then realized that I am the best version of myself that I’ve ever been, and now sitting here, I realize how incredibly beautiful that is. I am now no longer angry, but immensely grateful and fortunate for the opportunities that I’ve had and have coming to me. So again I’d like to say thank you, to my friends and family for supporting me in the ways that they can, and educating me on the matters and things that are important in life. My clients for giving me a tremendous amount of trust and respect for it is allowing me to grow and become the best artist that I can be. And to the common person, whom I may not know on a personal level, but maybe a conversation or couple of kind words we’ve exchanged. In a time where everything seems dark and bleak, I find I only want to express love, gratitude and positivity to each and every person I come into contact with. We all have struggle and we all have conflict. Let’s utilize each other as mentors and allies in this journey we call life, because we need each other now more than ever, and the only way we are going to progress in the correct direction is out of love. Also, it is a beautiful day to work toward demanding justice for the countless human beings that have been subject to the oppression of the criminal justice system and the systemic white supremacy that plagues this nation. Change comes from within, so the only way that we can progress towards a future that is truly equal and free of these terrible learned and oppressive behaviors comes from looking inside yourself, and finding any and all facets that reflect said behaviors, and destroying them. What would happen if the Earth was a cube? However, let’s say the Earth could be made into a cube. Gravity would be strongest at the centre of each face (since the force of gravity increases the closer to the centre of gravity). As a result, all water, and indeed our own atmosphere would be drawn towards the centre of the faces. So the edges of the Earth would be barren rock with no atmosphere, and the centre of each face would play host to giant oceans and a very thick atmosphere, each region potentially with its own distinct ecosystems. @johndioso and I created BLM Mashups as our Gen X punk way of graphically expressing our allyship with Black Lives Matter and culturally reappropriating traditionally white rock imagery for POC and repurposing it in the war to vanquish systemic racism: Hey, Ho, Say Their Names takes the Ramones’ classic presidential seal logo and replaces the band members with the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and Rayshard Brooks, the martyrs whose tragic murders sparked this year’s social justice protests. The Ramones’ battle cry “Hey! Ho! Let’s go!” has been replaced by “Black lives matter” and “Say their names.” Joy Divisions Unknown Pleasures pulsar is the iconic image of the postpunk era, and one that needs no type either on the album cover or the T-shirts, which became a cultural marker for indie goths worldwide. Inspired by the 1619 Project, “Unknown Numbers repurposes that image, which details successive radio waves emitted by a rotating neutron star, to represent the incalculable masses lost to racist violence over the entire course of American history. The minimal type treatment—FACT-1619 and BLM—echoes the original album design. When Jacob Blake was shot in the back seven times by a police officer in Kenosha, Wisc., professional athletes voiced their objection by striking. WNBA players, as usual, were leaders in the protests. The Washington Mystics took the floor of their next game wearing white T-shirts, each emblazoned with one hand-drawn letter of Blake’s name on the front and seven bullet holes on the back. “The Blake Album mashes up WNBA players bold response to the shooting with the Beatles classic, spare White Album,” which has extra resonance given John Lennon’s death by gun violence 40 years ago. We hope our tributes to iconic rock tees and album covers will entice fans of the artists—and even poseurs who just wear the shirts (you know who you are)—into embracing and displaying the BLM message with pride, strength and love. 75% of all sales will go directly to BLM. Over the years through @RichMinorityStudios, Ive put a few products out here and there but never really had enough resources and/or connections to properly turn my designs into reality. Trying to start a fashion line, solo-dolo, while also being heavily engaged in photography, filmmaking, artist management, and other creative services that pay the bills — It felt overwhelming and seemed almost impossible to actually get this process started without it being half-assed or just becoming another T-Shirt brand. #lofWenewen #DIFUNDIR Vía Lof We Newen La comunidad Autónoma We Newen, emite el siguiente comunicado para informar del terrible fallecimiento de nuestro Werken Alberto Alejandro Treuquil Treuquil ocurrido en horas de la noche del 04 de junio del presente en inmediaciones de la comunidad, resultando heridos tres jóvenes en el mismo hecho. Ante los graves y lamentables sucesos de las últimas horas, comunicamos lo siguiente: 1. Se ha denunciado por diversos medios los hechos que han ocurrido desde el día 13 de mayo de 2020 en donde se estableció un estado de sitio alrededor de la comunidad, siendo víctimas de la persecución policial ilegítima, hechos por los cuales se está interponiendo un recurso de amparo preventivo dejando en evidencia las constantes y reiteradas amenazas sufridas por las personas de la comunidad y en especial por nuestro Werken, hoy fallecido. 2. Nuestro Werken fue asesinado, cobardemente, por individuos ajenos a la comunidad mientras realizaba labores de búsqueda de uno de sus caballos en inmediaciones del lof. Este junto a jóvenes de la comunidad, fueron emboscados y atacados con armas de fuego, resultando heridos de diversa gravedad, mientras que nuestro Werken Alejandro Treuquil fue herido mortalmente con un impacto de bala, trasladado al centro de salud de Collipulli y falleciendo a consecuencia de la magnitud de su herida. 3. El cuerpo de nuestro peñi se encuentra en el SML de Temuco, a la espera de ser que sea entregado durante horas de la tarde de hoy 05 de junio, para posteriormente velarlo en su casa en compañía de esposa e hijos. Finalmente será despedido en el cementerio de Collipulli en fecha y horario por confirmar. Agradecemos las muestras de apoyo, solicitamos difusión y que nos acompañen en estos difíciles momentos en donde perdemos a un pilar fundamental en nuestra comunidad, legando un ejemplo de lucha por la dignidad del pueblo Mapuche, referente para las nuevas generaciones de jóvenes que buscan recuperar la tierra. What day is it? Right. I’m gonna do a B-FACE’S FLASHBACK FRIDAY because it’s been a while.
