Another #milkywaymonday come at you from the southeast Georgia coast. This is another shot from this past February that I finally got around to editing. Most people who shoot the milkyway on this part of Jekyll Island stay near the grand tree and dont venture too far away. On this particular night there were several people all shooting the grand tree so I decided to walk down the beach in an attempt to find a new composition. While walking I came across this fallen tree that was pointing in the general direction of the milky way core and decided to set up shop. All the foreground light pollution is due to the lights from St. Simons Island. Normally light pollution is a bad thing, but in this case it helped illuminate my foreground. These groins down by Hill Head create beautiful breaks in the waves before they reach the shore, splashing in every direction. The calm weather juxtaposed greatly with the waves, giving this sunrise capture that relaxing feel I felt as it was shot. Confieso no ser un aventurero nato, en el sentido deportivo de recorrer senderos y perderme en la naturaleza. Eso de que en primer lugar me gusta estar afuera en la naturaleza y luego saco fotos como excusa para salir, no aplica en mi caso. De hecho me pasa al revés, me encanta la fotografía, y porque quiero fotografiar lo que me parece de belleza más pura, casi siempre termino perdido en naturaleza. A veces pienso mientras estoy dando mi mejor esfuerzo en algún sendero por ahí: tenía que gustarme esto y no sacar fotos de calle. Para mi todo el proceso fotográfico va mucho más allá de yo salir a disfrutar de una gran aventura, trata más bien del futuro espectador de la fotografía, de que este tenga un viaje hacia su interior contemplando el resultado. Y es que me parece que ese viaje interior puede ser más fácil a través de una belleza pura y sutil. Here’s a long exposure featuring 20 minutes of star movement through the sky. Of course, the stars aren’t actually moving—the earth is rotating and it only *looks* like the stars are moving!⁣ ⁣ The shot was taken inside a cave that opens onto the beach.⁣ ⁣ The challenge in getting this shot was that a number of people were walking through this relatively narrow cave during the shot, and they had to step around my tripod as they passed by. I was a bit worried about this, but as it turned out, everybody was quite willing to tread carefully and avoid ruining my photo. “Smiling Sphinx rock” Was blessed with spending Saturday night at cathedral cove shooting Astro and long exposure photography. They say a smile for a smile and not that I can see a smile on smiling Sphinx rock but I was smiling when I seen this pop up after a 4 minute exposure at sunset 😁. There’s a good reason the Wairarapa in New Zealand is in the process of becoming the world largest Dark Sky Reserve. Pristine night skies and amazing varied landscape with very little light pollution. I shot this image at Cape Palliser in the early hours as the Milky Way set to the west. Sometimes the test shots end up being the keepers. That’s what happened here as I visited Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur. - Photos of the Keyhole Arch are what swayed me to changing my plans and visiting Big Sur instead of Sequoia or Yosemite. It’s one of those marvels that looks like it was created for a movie, not something that exists in real life. And every year, sometime in December or January, the setting sun falls directly behind the arch and creates dramatic beams of light (I was there a couple of weeks too early for the peak of this phenomenon). - I think one of the biggest lessons I learned on this trip is how difficult seascape photography is. It’s chaotic and far different than the slow, deliberative process of landscape photography that I’ve grown to love. On Saturday morning I took the opportunity to head down to Swanage as the forecast looked like it had a bit of potential. I’d randomly got chatting to a photographer who was down in Dorset on a short break the week before although conditions weren’t favourable then, it turned out we were already following each other on here. Add another twist he was staying with his girlfriend in the same village where I live. So we did manage too arrange a couple of shoots together during the week. You get a bit of negativity on social media at times, but it’s always great too meet new people that share a common interest. I’ve certainly met many great photographers over the last few years just on the off chance of being in the same place, at the same time. So if you would like to check out @tom.w.green you’ll find a nice collection of work. Back to the shoot, I love the simplicity of this ledge, add a nice bank of cloud which does help here, and a few small breaks of light that finally managed to get through. Not a great deal of movement in the water so I’ve exposed this shot over forty seconds, hope you like it. Magic Mushroom A mushroom-shaped hoodoo stands tall in the New Mexico badlands while the Milky Way peeks through the clouds. Typically I aim to have clear skies when shooting the night sky, but I think the thin clouds in this image are adding a lot of interest to the scene. They look as if they were captured during sunset, but they are actually lit by light pollution from nearby towns. It was taken this May during a roadtrip to the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness in northwestern New Mexico. - @mrcnzajac on Instagram

I tried to photograph the Milky Way at this spot for 2 days in a row last month. On the first day it was so cloudy you couldn’t even see the stars. Had a bit more luck on the second day, the skies opened up a bit but there was still a bank of clouds/haze on the horizon that covered up half of the galaxy. It’s a truly mesmerizing experience to be able to see the Milky Way with a naked eye (even if it’s just a half of it 😅) and it’s only 1.5hr away from the heavily light polluted San Francisco area. - @ihorphotography on Instagram
