In den gigantischen Hallen entfalten die monumentalen Arbeiten eine ergreifende Aura. Besonders interessant war es, das Materiallager anzuschauen. Darin bewahrt Anselm Kiefer eine gut sortierte, aber schier unüberschaubare Menge an Objekten auf, die er für die Assemblagen auf seinen Werken verwendet. Die meistens aus altem Metall bestehenden Fundstücke haben eine historische Patina, die Anselm Kiefer gezielt für die symbolischen Attribute seiner Kunstwerke einsetzt.
