Amazing! Don’t Miss This Elephant-Shaped Gate in Namtso Lake! The normal Namtso tour would start from Lhasa, making all the way through Lagenla Pass (5190m) and then make a stop at Tashi Dor Island, the southern side of the sacred lake. That’s a more well-known spot and it’s easier to get to. Most tours stop here and go no further. But they missed a hidden beauty! If you move further to the northern side of the lake, you will come to this sacred Elephant Gate and its beautiful curves and cliffs. This will be a good spot to take some of the best photos you can ever take of this holy lake. And you can get away from the crowd at the lakeshore. Isn’t it cool? According to an ancient local legend, it is said that the wedding ceremony of God of Nyanchen Thanglha and Goddess of Namtso Lake took place here at the gate. Janvier 2015 : il y a pile 5 ans, je rentrais du Myanmar. Ce pays mavait éblouie par lhospitalité de ses habitants et sa lumière si particulière. Jai eu envie de ressortir les photos ! Celle-ci correspond à lun de mes souvenirs les plus marquants de ce voyage : la Fête de la pagode Ananda à Bagan. On a atterri là un jour de pleine lune, sans savoir que cétait un moment très particulier. En effet, chaque année à la mi-janvier, la pagode sanime : des centaines de moines viennent lors de ce festival recevoir les offrandes des villageois. Dès 5h du matin, ils se placent en file indienne vêtus de leur habit rouge et se voient offrir riz, argent, fruits, biscuits ou encore produits dhygiène (check le tube de dentifrice dans la main du jeune moine !). Hello all. 👋🏼 It’s been a while, 6 wks in fact since I last posted! 🙈 Have you missed me? 😂 In case you missed it, I was in Nepal for a month, trekking and mountaineering. 👞🧗🏻♀️🏔 ~ I’ve been home for a couple of wks now (which I’ve needed to recuperate 🥰) and I’m slowly starting to gather my thoughts and look back on what an amazing trip and adventure I had in Nepal. 🇳🇵 ~ It was the best and the toughest thing I’ve ever had to do, there were highs and lows, tears and snotters 😂, laughter and pain! But I wouldn’t change a thing. 💕 ~ This was taken on Day 3 of my trek and is what’s called a ‘rest day’, which is a lie as it’s anything but restful, as you have to do an acclimatisation hike to prepare you for higher altitudes. 😩 This one out of Namche Bazaar at 3440m to Khumjung at 3790m was tough, but the views and prayer flags almost made up for it. 🥰 ~ I’m slowly working my way through my stories from the trip, so you’ll need to stay tuned to see how I got on. 😋 I’ve added the previous days to my highlights in case you’ve missed any. ~ 📸 - Kongde Ri at 6187m towering above Namche Bazaar. 🏔 xx - @bumblebambi on Instagram

Where : Buddha Statue in Fossil Village -Langza , Spiti A large painted statue of the Buddha sits in front of the new monastery on a hill above the village. The statue faces west, out over the Spiti valley and shows the Buddha making the gesture of touching the earth. Behind it the new monastery has been built to completely enclose a much smaller, older one but we can’t find the key holder to let us in to see the inside of either. ⛰ MILE HIGH 🇵🇭 . Living here has its + and - points. The weather is glorious but being a mountainous region walking up the steep roads is horrendous. One really needs a car or a motorbike to move around. The air is fresher than in Manila, but its bugging me to think that this city has a very extreme no smoking policies, yet the old vehicles are still puffing up horrendous pollutions from their exhausts. It somehow kills the fresh air visitors come to experience. Oh, you cant smoke or vipe unless you are in a private property but you can legally sit almost anywhere in public places and drown yourself in alcohol. Go figure which is more hazardous to health.🙄 Still... (Part 2) After long times of isolation, some monks find a social life hindering on the path to illumination. Then there is the next step of retreating: Three years, three months and three days in the hermit enclave, that remind on swallows nests far up in the mountains. They saw no light in this time, meditated and visualized on very limited food supply. They developed in this time the paranormal abilities we call second sight or clearvoyance and other skills, called Nos grub. After they did this unimaginable retreat they could receive the title Lama So think about it: if you ever have the honor to meet someone with that title, that person spend many years alone in a dark room, completely exposed to his inner self, no talk, no tv, no sex, no games, nothing. Of course these retreats were done with very careful preparations under guidance of the Guru (teacher) since they offer a great opportunity for spiritual development but also great danger for the mind and psyche. These Lamas were often seen as divine beings, their blessings protect people, animals and places from all evil. A life in service for all beings... Some of the Lamas though retreated repeatedly and even longer in the Tscham Khangs ( enclave) and dedicated themselves to the direct path ,full deliberance and absolute enlightment. This could end in the retreating in a Ritö an place even further up in the mountains, where they would be walled in for decades, becoming the wanderers of the direct path But there were Lamas, Yogis or what the tibetans call Naldjorpas that took it even further... 🇬🇧 I went out to the main terrace, as the noise called my attention. They were doing a ritual where one monk was sitting on the floor while two other novices were clapping their hands on the first monks face, balancing their bodies forward and backward. At first sight it seemed kind of rude, but the three of them involved were so natural on their reactions. I had to ask them to understand what was going on, and they said it was kind of a debate, a religious practice. The monks standing up asked questions to the one on the ground, that answered. Of course I didnt understand a word, but I found it so interesting just to watch. What else do you know about it? Have you ever seen it live? . . 🇪🇦 Salí a la terraza principal espoleado por el ruido de palmas y gritos que de allí surgían. Estaban haciendo una especie de ritual, donde un monje estaba sentado en el suelo mientras otros dos se acercaban balanceándose hacia el primero, dando una palmada justo al lado de su cara, mientras pronunciaban unas palabras. A primera vista parecía violento, aunque me di cuenta que no, sus reacciones eran nobles. - I did an 18 day tour of Bhutan and it was incredible. Once of the most impressive sites was the Buddha Dordenma outside of Thimphu. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold.

I followed a monk in Nikes up here 👟 This is the Tiger’s Nest monastery, named for the legend of Guru Rinpoche (considered the 2nd Buddha in Himalayan Buddhism) who flew here from Tibet on the back of a 🐅 and meditated on the rock face for 3 years, 3 months, 3 days and 3 hours in the 8th century. What is a Drupchhen? Did you know that Drupchhen, Domchen are all words that originate from the term Drubcho (which translates as accomplishment offering) It is an esoteric Buddhist practice, a group ceremony to invoke the power and blessings of deities through chanting of prayers, visualization, offering of feasts and rites of reparation. The annual Thimphu Lhamoi Drupchen is one of the two most important deity worship ceremonies (the other being the Gonwang Drubchen in Punakha in early spring) that are carried out in Bhutan. The Thimphu Drubchen is especially to cultivate the blessing and favor of the female deity Pelden Lhamo and her retinue. Although the public showcase is only for three days, the actually ceremony lasts 15 days inside the Dzong with special meditation practice, incantations and offering. The 3 day Domchen inside the Dzong are then followed by the 3 day Tshechu at the Tendrelthang which marks the auspicious 10th date of the month for the arrival of Guru Rinpochee. Founded by Kuenga Gyaltshen, who is believed to be the incarnation of Zhabdrung’s son Jampal Dorji, Thimphu Lhamoi Drupchen is considered as a special healing ceremony especially during times of great need. It is believed that when Kuenga Gyaltsen was meditating in Cheri Monastery, the deity Pelden Lhamo appeared in his visualization telling him to initiate the Drupchen for the welfare of Bhutan. This year’s Drupchhen carries out even more significance due to the pandemic. So although you may be watching the event through your screens this year, it is important to do so with an awareness of Pelden Lhamo and seek her blessings. The deity is seen as the chief of the mamo spirits capable of releasing plagues and diseases but also in possession of the power to take it back. This year marks the 310th annual Drupchen and the only one in recent memory without a crowd of spectators.
