Multiple teams from across City departments have been mobilized to respond to the Sept. 8 wind storm. Today, we want to thank our Waste & Recycling Education Team for their role in helping track and catalog debris piles across the city. Their work, along with Salt Lake City Public Services Compliance officers, both of whom know Salt Lake City like no one else does, have allowed us to cover the entire city for the last two weeks. “The combination of Stephanie’s story and your open heartedness led to an astonishing $2.65 million being raised for her trust. Some of you may have noticed that Stephanie’s apartment looked a little brighter yesterday in her portrait with Mitch. That’s because she received a surprise visit from some of the children of ABC, which is the charity Stephanie selected as the beneficiary of her trust upon her death. The children brought her ‘Stephanie-themed’ artwork and photos, which are now hanging all over the walls of her apartment. ABC’s founder Gretchen Buchenholz also delivered a three-page handwritten letter to Stephanie expressing her gratitude. Have you guys been to fundies yet? They are an organic cafe located in paddington. Most if not all there stuff is vegetarian and they always have a dozen or so vegan options, including chickpea, lentil and tofu burgers, rice balls, stuffed mushrooms, lentil Dahl and a huge range of house-made salads. What they are best known for though are their breakfasts. This is the vegan big breakfast I shared this morning with my mum, scrambled tofu, breakfast beans, avocado, spinach, mushies, roasted tom and my sprouted bread in which I brought myself. They have a delish vegan sourdough and spelt bread though. (They do a mean vegan coconut Bircher to)They also have an organic whole food store attached which is the best place in Brisbane to stock up on all the healthy vegan goodies. As we approach Memorial Day weekend, we can’t help but to stop and reflect on our Americans citizens who have lost their lives battling all sorts of unfortunate threats to our country—including this novel covid-19 virus. We honor and salute you! I have been hearing, reading and seeing a lot of opinions and some tension around the “need” of wearing a mask. As a doctor, I have been trained to wear a mask in order to protect myself and my patients from a virus and/or disease. Yesterday, I rode my bike around the city that still sleeps and found this simple message in Battery Park City: “one small ask, please wear a mask.” Wear it because you care! You don’t know who has an immunocompromised, or elderly, loved one at home. If you feel confused about whether people should wear a mask, why, and what kind, you’re not alone. COVID-19 is a novel disease—a moving target—and we’re learning new things about it every day. Yes, the CDC now recommends we wear masks or cloth face coverings, but do we really need anyone to tell us that? The major transmission route of COVID-19 is via droplets that fly out of our mouths—that includes when we speak, sing, laugh—not just when we cough or sneeze. I know much of the confusion around masks stems from miscommunication, misinformation and misunderstandings, so I hope this helps. 😷 I have worn a mask to protect myself from getting infected and/or I have worn a mask to protect others from being infected by the me. 😷 Masks can also be worn to prevent transmission to others, and this is their most important use for society. We don’t know for sure who’s sick, so the only solution is for everyone to wear masks—for now. We all want to go back to not wearing masks! We hope this is temporary, so if we can work together, hopefully it will be. If we can lower the likelihood of one person infecting another, the impact is exponential—even a small reduction in those odds results in a huge decrease in disease and deaths. Repair turnaround times are unprecedentedly longer than average. We know you are annoyed by this. It makes us very unhappy too (Adam doesn’t sleep anymore) and we are trying as hard as we can to stay on top of it. Y’all just want to get your bikes ready all at the same time! We know that riding a bike is a great source of stress relief, something we all really need right now and we are getting your bicycles ready for adventures as fast as we can, while abiding by regulations and keeping everybody safe. At the end of the day, we find ourselves working harder than ever, in more stressful conditions for ultimately less business. But we are happy to do it! It’s a challenging time for sure. This day will forever be etched in memory. The day California went orange. Nothing quite felt as apocalyptic as that day in my life. People in medical masks walking the streets while street lamps automatically turned on at midday under the darkened orange sky. It was a sci-fi movie playing out in real life. The scariest part is that decisions at the governmental level, both old and new, contributed to this scene that day. From federal fire policy in 1910 that radically altered the way forests naturally burn to the dismantling and defunding of national and international pandemic response systems and agencies just a year ago, we are reaping what we sow. These issues are so damn complex that there is no turn key solution to any of them but I hope that with loud voices, with hope for the future and with voting that will remove those from those in office that actively deny science and truth we can come together to work on these problems for our generation and future generations to come. ⠀ ⠀ *context of photo, this was at about 4:00pm, the AQI was actually quite low as the smoke blanketed higher in the atmosphere so it was generally okay to exercise though we did descend in the near pitch black dark because of the smoke layer. - @codytownsend on Instagram

It’s hard to know what to make of the year 2020 but one thing has become even more certain: I’m ever grateful that this is our hobby. Seeking some fresh air, four of us chucked bike bags on and headed 100 miles due north from London, riding basically a straight line via country lanes and through historic estates to a small town in middle England with a river, a pub and a castle. The warm weather let us take leisurely outdoor lunch and brewery stops and we finished the day with a wild swim in the golden evening light. Star gazing from our bivvy bags before falling asleep, we were woken at sunrise by a honking Canadian goose overhead, Mother Nature’s quirky alarm clock. Little trips like this with good company help keep the positivity going. Women in Mount Pleasant cautioned to stay alert after man approached female pedestrians after dark There have been at least three recent reports on social media, the most recent on Sept. 21, of a man in a silver vehicle pulling up to a woman walking alone after dark and attempting to get her to come near. A woman was walking her dog Sunday just before 1 p.m. near Main Street and East 1 Avenue when she noticed two men were following her. The men would stare at her and then look at their cell phones Then around 10:30 p.m. The man in the vehicle is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, with a slim build. The driver asked her if she’d use her cell phone to make a call for him. The woman declined and called the police as soon as she got home. Another women walking on Scotia Street near Broadway was approached around 10:30 p.m. by a man driving a silver four-door sedan. The VPD sex crimes unit is involved, Const. Tania Visintin said.
