TRIBUTE TO THE LATE FIELD RANGER RESPECT MATHEBULA It was with deep sadness that the Chief Executive Officer, Fundisile Mketeni learned of the passing away of Field Ranger, Respect Mathebula on Thursday, 19 July 2018. Respect was based at Crocodile Bridge Section and passed away in an incident which involved a shoot-out between rangers and suspected poachers. Respect joined SANParks in February 2015 as Field Ranger at Shangoni Ranger Section. In July 2016, he moved to Crocodile Bridge Section in the same position and worked there until he passed away. “Very few people have the courage and necessary skills to perform this important task other than Rangers, in which Respect was and will forever be part of. Etlela hi kurhula Respect – May your soul rest in peace. You upheld the Ranger values and flew the SANParks flag high with honour. We are poorer with your absence but will continue where you left off”. Respect leaves behind his wife, Wisdom Ndlovu, their four children, five brothers, two sisters and all other family members. A well camouflaged Flakpanzer IV AKA “Whirbewind” looking out for approaching enemy aircraft. The Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind (Whirlwind in English) was a German self-propelled anti-aircraft gun based on the Panzer IV tank. It was developed in 1944 as a successor to the earlier Möbelwagen self-propelled anti-aircraft gun. The combination of armor and rapid fire from the four guns of the Wirbelwind made it very effective against lightly armoured ground targets such as trucks and armored cars; infantry were particularly vulnerable. Tetapi, pada tanggal 10-11, pasukan lapis baja Cadangan Israel dikerahkan untuk menghadapi pasukan divisi ke 5 pasukan Suriah, dan berhasil menghalau serangan pasukan Suriah. Dan sedikit Fakta, semua pasukan lapis baja di dataran tinggi Golan milik Israel adalah pasukan Cadangan. Pada Tanggal 11 Oktober 1973, Pasukan Israel meluncurkan serangan balasan kepada pasukan Suriah, dan berhasil memukul mundur pasukan Suriah sampai keluar dari dataran tinggi Golan, dan menstabilkan kembali Front Israel. Beutepanzer T-34 747 (r) Jerman! Der Beutepanzer memiliki arti captured tank. Istilah ini digunakan oleh militer Jerman saat WW2 untuk menandai tank musuh yang berhasil mereka tawan dan digunakan kembali oleh Jerman. Dalam foto ini, kalian bisa melihat Panzerkampfwagen T-34 747 (r) atau sesuai dengan designasi aslinya, yaitu T-34/76 mod 1942 atau 1943. Bukan Jerman namanya jika tidak melakukan perubahan pada suatu alat perang agar semakin efektif di medan pertempuran. Petinggi militer Jerman seperti Guderian juga kagum dengan tank Soviet yang satu ini. Ia memerintahkan Wehrmacht (AB Jerman) untuk menggunakan kembali sekitar 400 Tank T-34 berbagai model yang berhasil mereka rebut dari Soviet dan menyimpan tank T-34 rusak untuk persediaan suku cadang. Jerman juga menyadari bahwa tank ini sangatlah buta dengan keadaan sekitar karena jarang dilengkapi dengan radio dan memiliki hatch serta cupola dengan visibilitas buruk. Akhirnya Jerman memasang radio komunikasi mereka serta cupola baru untuk posisi commander yang diambil dari tank Panzer III atau Panzer IV yang sudah rusak. Tidak lupa juga, mereka memberikan cat khas Jerman juga Balkenkreuz di bagian turret agar tidak terkena tembakan kawan. Terkadang, swastika juga dipasang di bagian atas tank agar pesawat kawan tidak salah identifikasi dan menyerang mereka. Akhirnya SS Panzer Division juga ikut menggunakan tank ini, tercatat Das Reich dan Totenkopf ikut menggunakan tank T-34 rampasan ini. Ada juga beberapa armored train Jerman yang dilengkapi dengan turret T-34. Intinya sih memanfaatkan apapun yang ada di medan pertempuran.
