About 2 weeks ago, the iconic White Bridge was struck by a tree. The tree caused significant damage to one of Magnolia’s favorite landmarks. The deck, railing, and more are in need of serious repair. Leuweung bagi kami adalah kawasan yang ekosistem nya terjaga, pohon air hewan dan tak lupa manusia hidup bersama saling keterkaitan menyusun siklus hidup yang bundar. Lima tahun kebelakang tempat ini gersang, polusi begitu pekat dari bawah bukit yang merupakan jalan raya penghubung provinsi jawa barat-jawa tengah, selain itu sadar kawasan dari warga setempat pun sangat minim untuk menghijaukan bukit leuweung tiis ini. Paguyuban Tani @sundahejo masuk dan memberikan pendampingan kepada warga setempat tentang bagaimana pentingnya menjaga siklus hidup bersama alam atau bahasa keren nya sustainable. 2016 awal paguyuban petani @sundahejo bersama warga mulai menanam pohon endemik dengan tujuan selain menghijaukan hutan juga melestarikan pohon yang memang endemik garut atau umumnya indonesia. Kini leuweung tiis sudah kembali tiis (dingin), kaya dengan oksigen yang sehat. Terima kasih untuk semua yang ikut reforestasi di leuweung tiis, semoga kita selalu lakukan hal-hal kecil dengan tulus. Wise Lake is well known as a favorite spot for those hiking at Congaree to stop and rest, or to watch wildlife such as wading birds, alligators or otters in their natural habitat. But what many people who stop to take in the scenic beauty of this oxbow lake tucked into the Congaree Wilderness dont know is how the lake came to get its name. Wise Lake got its name from Samuel Wise, who owned the land which contained the oxbow lake that carries his name today, though it is not known exactly when it acquired that name. Wise immigrated to South Carolina from England and became a merchant in Charleston, while also acquiring land in the colony, including 1,250 acres in the Congaree floodplain, relocating to the area sometime in the mid-1770s. Like many South Carolinians of the day, he took a side during the War for Independence, becoming a captain in the South Carolina 3rd Regiment, known as the Rangers. He rose to the rank of major and served under the command Colonel William Thomson, a neighbor, and saw action at the Battle of Sullivan’s Island in 1776 and the unsuccessful defense of Savannah in 1778. On October 9, 1779, Wise, along with a detachment of his regiment attempted to storm the British trenches at the Spring Hill Redoubt during the ill-fated Second Battle of Savannah. What was supposed to be a surprise attack turned into a debacle, and Wise was killed in the assault, one of 244 American and French soldiers killed in the attack. Conheci o Pantanal em 2008, no trabalho de campo da biologia. Ver a beleza e o tamanho dos tuiuiús, a liberdade das araras que cruzavam o céu azul, a imensidão do paratudal, ouvir e sentir o corpo vibrar com os gritos dos bugios, se sentir cercada por piranhas e jacarés: sem dúvidas essa foi uma experiência marcante na minha vida e profissão. Hoje, ao ler os dados e ver as imagens dos incêndios, sinto uma profunda dor e tenho vontade de sair correndo para ajudar a apagar esse fogo. Isso eu não posso fazer, mas posso dizer e fazer outras coisas! Posso dizer que: - 90% dos incêndios são causados pelo ser humano, alguns acidentais e outros CRIMINOSOS! Sim, esse fogo é nossa responsabilidade, direta ou indiretamente! - Entre janeiro e setembro, mais de 2,3 milhões de hectares foram consumidos pelo fogo (15% do bioma). - Uma região considerada um santuário para vida selvagem e lar da maior população de onças pintadas já teve mais de 60% do território queimado! E posso fazer: - Fora Bolsonaro! Ainda vamos colher muitos frutos ruins das nossas escolhas na última eleição. Ainda teremos muitas consequências diretas e indiretas.
