Hellroaring Basin update! This spring, we began a multi-phase project to increase accessibility and improve terrain variety in Hellroaring Basin. This initial phase included clearing timber for the new runs and lift line, as well as glading areas adjacent to runs, and re-sloping areas on the Hell Fire run to eliminate the negative grades. Phase 1 has been completed! Phase 2 includes relocating Chair 8 in 2021, which will allow the resort to open Hellroaring Basin earlier in the season. We will see a very weak freeze on Tuesday night and temperatures will climb into the mid 50s on Wednesday. Natural avalanches like this one can run from steep rocky terrain during peak daytime heating. Avoid travel on and under steep rocky slope where these avalanches are most likely. To stay safe get into and out of the mountains early before the surface snow starts to lose cohesion. Remember you often have to move through lower elevation areas to egress from the mountains. Lower elevation slopes will become weaker and more dangerous before higher elevation slopes. Plan your day accordingly.
