Like many catastrophic and shocking events in history, I remember exactly where I was when I heard a 47 had been shot down in Afghanistan, August 6, 2011. That type of news caused an immediate reaction, my heart sank and I couldnt believe it was true. The bird that was brought down was Extortion 17, operating at a strike force location where I had been just ten months prior to the incident. Today, we will think of all those who walked on the ramp of the helo that night, never to walk off. From the aircrew, the SEAL assault element, our brave Air Force brothers, EOD teammates, and the combat support crew who make us successful, we will not forget your sacrifice. We lost many that night, and the families were hit hard.
