Photo by Mike Leberge. - In 1989, Englands Extreme Noise Terror were at the forefront of the crust genre. Having just released their masterpiece A Holocaust In Your Head, there were few bands who rivaled their reputation in the game. Their contemporary brew of aggressive hardcore was distinct and forceful, making waves all the way across the pond into America and inspiring a new crop of groups with their dual-vocal onslaught. Perhaps the most notable of those were Massachusetts band Disrupt. While still relatively new to the scene, they were already playing a style of music that earned them the moniker as the American ENT. Clearly its foolish to try and dispute the obvious similarities, but most seasoned listeners of the genre would bluntly tell you that comparing the two groups is unfathomable and borderline sacrilege. At the very start of their existence, Disrupt vocalists Pete Kamarinos and Jay Stiles were in discussion with their unofficial brothers across the ocean in regards to collaborating on a split EP for their premier release. This record would never materialize, however the bands remained in contact and forged a long distance kinship for years to come. They would eventually go on to collaborate on a project called Disabuse, releasing the sole eponymous EP in 1994. Still, while both bands went on to carve their own niche in the annals of crust history, one cannot help but imagine how this aborted concept played into the ultimate legacy of Disrupt as a standalone, classic band. In an interview with Jay Stiles of Disrupt, we explore how the two bands first came in contact, how the idea for the 7 came about, and why it ultimately never came to fruition. GROSSONGS: A história por trás das canções. Toda quarta vou contar um pouco da história por traz de algumas canções que escrevi, como foram feitas, arranjadas e gravadas. Vou começar com a que considero a primeira canção “Decente” que fiz: “Lunático”. Ela tem uma clara influência do Pete Townshed no Riff de Guitarra de abertura e nos acordes da estrofe. A melodia veio depois de eu muito ouvir um disco do T.Rex gravado na BBC em que o Marc Bolan cantava lêem cima, em um tom bem alto. A inspiração da letra veio depois que li uma história em que o Syd Barret (“the lunatic is on the grass”) trancou a namorada dele no quarto e passava bolachas por debaixo da porta pra ela não morrer de fome (haha, pocoloco). A letra também fala de um sentimento rebelde do tipo vou-tacar-o-foda-se/ninguém-tem-nada-a-ver-com-isso... Fiz uma demo caseira em fita K7 no meu gravador de 4 canais Fostex X14 e mostrei pros guris da Cachorro Grande, que curtiram na hora, e ela logo entrou pro repertório, que na época incluía poucas canções próprias ainda. Na gravação, além da guitarra, toquei um baixo com Fuzz que já fazia parte do arranjo original da demo e que deixava a música com mais cara de The Who do que ela já tinha. Era uma ótima abertura para os shows da época e acabou sendo uma boa abertura para o álbum de estreia. Ganhou um clip, nosso terceiro, dirigido pelo amigo @marcnunes , que era basicamente a banda fazendo uma performance da música vestidos de terno branco com fundo preto e vice versa, em P&B. Lembro de a gente esperando a tinta secar depois de ter pintado o estúdio de preto para poder filmar. O clip tocou bastante na MTV na época, ajudando na projeção da banda fora do nosso estado natal e concorreu no VMB de 2002, levando a gente pela primeira vez na premiação/cerimônia/festa, que era uma loucura. Acabou se tornado uma canção que nunca saiu do repertório da banda, passando com o tempo a fechar os shows. Tom was an incredible singer, songwriter, and musician and if it wasn’t for his introduction Steve and George never would have met Michael Brown and the rest is history. This happened on this date Saturday Night Live . I wanted to have a projection of Mt St Helens erupting behind us. In ode to the Northwest and to where were are from and the marking of history and nature. That day i kept my inner sadness about Ian Curtis to myself , 15 or 16 years earlier he died on that day the day of Mt St Helens erupting actually first time i cried about someone i didn’t know. On a cool aside though I remember looking at Don Pardo’s tea steeping next to his reading glasses and newspaper in his vocal booth. If i could paint its one i would do for sure. The history and the professionalism talk about steeped!!! That booth was so exact to the second even the steam rising was on time and welcomed into the light shining down. Such a nightly ritual. He. wasnt in there but his stuff was. We actually had a skit that was cut from the show too hahaha That night was the last time we saw Jeff Buckley. At the end of the show you can see me lift my arms over my head and if you do that with your shadow it makes an eye. Ku kapele sa pripojil v roku 1982 ako náhrada za Rona McGovneyho. Prvý album, ktorý s nimi nahral bol Kill ’Em All a prvý koncert absolvoval 5. marca 1983 v San Franciscu. Ďalšie dva albumy, Ride The Lightning a Master of Puppets, sa stretli nielen s veľkým úspechom u ľudí, ale aj u kritiky. 2019, what can we say? You took us to Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scotland, England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and of course around our home in Italy. You introduced us to new friends, and reunited us with old ones. You took us to some of the best fests in Europe like Sjock, Freakland, Bukta, Flamingo Beach, and Felicia Pop. 2019 were gonna miss you like a motherfucker.... But lets not get all misty eyed about it! 2020 hasnt even arrived and its allready looking good. Our pals at Corner Soul, Otis Tours and Folc Records are already working on getting us back on the road, and our friends at Wild Honey, Rum Bar and Stardumb Records are making sure that there is new Peawees music to hold you over while we work hard on a new album.
