So, as some of you might know, earlier this year I directed my first short film. Its a rough subject, not an easy view, but Im proud of the result. I had a great cinematographer, John Gilhooley, a wonderful editor Rick Lobo, and a haunting original score by Greg Kuehn. Our cast, well they were amazing and you will find their credits on the film. At times, you will struggle to believe that theyre acting, but I assure you they are. I wanted realism and thats what they gave me. This is the type of stuff that truly brings tears to my eyes. I didn’t come from a military lineage. I came from an area of the United States where it’s rare people raise their hand and pledge to give their lives for something greater than themselves. My father and mother raised me to be different than those people that don’t. I entered into service with no idea what to expect and it changed me to the core. Americans from all 50 states and different socio-economic backgrounds willing to fight for something they believed in. I never meant to make the military a career but when war broke out, no matter how tragic it was, there was no way I was leaving my brothers and sisters to my left and right until the war was finished. And I consider myself lucky to have had the privilege. I also learned that the same families continue to offer their young sons and daughters in the defense of our country while most do not. This is one of those stories, whether it’s our country or not. A Warrior always stands out amongst men. This is how I know we’ll always be okay - that a few will stand up against the many to protect us. FIN DOHERTY - YOUR BROTHER IS LOOKING DOWN WITH PRIDE. Boundless energy exists in the universe, the magic lies in the ability to harness and redistribute it.” That’s how I experience creativity, creation, art, whatever you want to label it. It is not one thing, I am not one thing. We are boundless, endless, limitless vibrations of energy capable of eternal creation & transformation. My endless creative incarnations all make sense to me. What would make less sense to me would be If I stood still, doing the same thing over and over, out of fear or the idea of survival. For those of you who don’t know by now...my lifelong hero, boss, mentor, the person I looked up to most in life and most importantly, my father, is no longer with us. You must turn this dynamic around. Make the thought of death something not to escape but to embrace. Your days are numbered. Will you pass them half awake and halfhearted or will you live with a sense of urgency? And do me favor, please call your mom, dad, whoever...if you are lucky enough to have them still in your life and let them know you love them just because. As for the services they will be 4-8pm next Wednesday the 29th. the service will be at Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral home in Newburyport, Ma. A more formal communication will come shortly but in the meantime this should suffice. Firooz Zahedi just sent me his gorgeous book, LOOK AT ME, full of memories of unforgettable shoots. I adore this shot of Annie and me. Look at her! I remember posing for this picture as if it were yesterday. It was 1993-94. We were in LA for the run of SUNSET BLVD at the Schubert Theater which has since been torn down. We survived a major earthquake, mudslides, the arrest of OJ and the death of Jackie O. Annie turned 6 surrounded by our extended SUNSET family. What a deluge of happy memories!! Saying goodbye today to this legend of a man who was our grandad and turned 100 years just last year. He was so funny, lucid and curious and had ‘all his marbles’ right until the end, ...he would know what to watch out for at the cinema, learnt how to write emails at 90, read the National Geographic and the Time magazine and was still driving until not too long ago. My journey into blood cancer nursing and clinical trials began when my brother was diagnosed with ALL aged 6. Alex was enrolled in the ALL-BFM 95 trial which looked at giving kinder treatments based on individual risk to improve survival in children and adolescents with #ALL #Signsandsymptoms of blood cancer can be insidious and hard to see. It was the keen eye of a family friend, a nurse, who noticed Alex was pale. My worried Mum felt he had also been tired and lethargic since starting school – A blood test later that day changed our familys world. As with all boys undergoing treatment for ALL, Alex’s treatment lasted 3 years. Despite significant impacts @bloodcanceruk made in treatments since Susan was diagnosed in 1960, treatment for ALL is gruelling & hard on patients and we continue to research less toxic treatments. - @bloodcancer_uk on Instagram

Недавно со мной случился спидвей. Вы знаете что такое спидвей? Вы знали что в Ровно есть трек которому больше 60 лет на котором пацаны сыпят почти без остановки еще с послевоенных времен..? Я не знал. Сказать что я был удивлен, ничего не сказать. А когда меня позвали приехать и попробовать.. ну короче долго я не думал. Спидвей это вид мотоспорта, где ты сыпешь по овалу из гаревого покрытия(такая мелкая каменистая крошка), фактически в постоянном левом повороте, на байке который весит 70кг, в котором 500 кубов, нет передач, и НЕТ тормозов, прям вообще нет, и как мне сказали, он может по прямой дать 250км/ч. И что бы повернуть этот снаряд на скорости 80-120 км/час в тот самый левый поворот, его нужно буквально ложить, срывать заднее колесо в дрифт, открывая газ. Короче это спорт для пацанов с яйцами которые научились бороться с инстинктом самосохранения который натренирован на сброс газа при входе в поворот, а не наоборот 🏁 у меня за те 6-10 кругов что я сделал такого скилла не появилось, поэтому честно признаюсь, я прочувствовал колесо в заносе лишь под самый конец своего заезда, но и тех эмоций что я получил мне хватило что бы держать спину ровно и чувствовать себя супер перцем до конца дня) Короче в Украине есть спидвей. Есть люди которые относятся к нему ревностно и страстно, и на них он держится. А с недавних пор еще и развивается. Если вас заинтересовала эта тема, просто вбейте в гугле «спидвей Ровно», об остальном пацаны позаботились, есть классный сайт, вся инфа и тд. A few weeks ago I had a pretty significant a-ha or breakthrough. It was so fucking beautiful, and so fucking painful. Let me explain. Recently, in my ED recovery, and my ankle injury, Ive regained almost every single pound I lost in the past 2 years. For days, the old rhetoric surfaced. I hated myself... again.. I berated my appearance.. How did you let this happen? Youre worthless You have no willpower One day while in the middle of an especially hateful barrage of insults towards myself, I paused. Not for a long time, but long enough to hear over my ego. To hear the voice of my soul. Do you know what it had to say? Carrie, yes youve gained some weight, but can we take a moment to look at all the other areas of your life? You still have great friends who love you, you are still going to yoga teacher training, you are still working out, you are still doing all the things that you used to let your weight hold you back from. Holy fuck... it was like someone tore me in half. All of a sudden the tears started rolling and my chest started heaving. I, for the first time in my life, held space for myself. Showed compassion and empathy. It was so beautiful, and at the same time, so sad that it took me 36 years to achieve. I cried tears of joy, and also grieved the girl who held herself back from so damn much. All of these mantras of worthlessness and self hate are ones Ive carried with me for far far too long. Im going deep, back to the basics, back to little carrie, back before I held these false beliefs about myself. Wish me luck as it wont be an easy journey. Unlearning these patterns will take time and effort. Im scared and excited all at once. Пока моя инста еще совсем не померла, выдам несколько замечаний) Пару недель назад мы вернулись из Питера - то был робкий эксперимент путешествия с ребенком. В сториз я писала что перелет в Питер абсолютно удался - Мира 2 часа проспала, а остальные 2 изучала убранство в самолете, умиляя соседей своим тихим приветливым улюлюканьем. Перелет обратно обещал быть также удачным, тк ночной рейс. Она проспит все 4 часа, думали мы. Мира уснула еще до посадки и действительно проспала первый час полета. А дальше начался ад. Проснулась с воплями, которые не прекращались 2.5 часа, не помогало ничего 😭 Я бы хотела обратиться к людям, которые метают молнии ненависти в пассажиров с орущими и беснующимися детьми. Я вас прекрасно понимаю, ведь совсем недавно сама была по вашу сторону. Думала что это какие-то бракованные родители, которые не в состоянии совладать с собственным чадом и очень злилась. Ведь я планировала, например, поспать, а не чувствовать пинки на спине все несколько часов полета. Но теперь уверяю вас, эта женщина с виноватым уставшим лицом (та самая недомать) - самый несчастный человек на всем рейсе. Она готова сквозь землю провалиться, она готова в окно выйти. Ей страшно неудобно, и она позволяет ребенку иногда пинать вас лишь потому что иначе он будет орать. А так, каждый пинок в вашу спинку - это будто пинок ей в висок. Но долетят ли мои слова до адресата? Едва ли) Скажу иначе. Вот представьте, что едете в переполненном вагоне метро. Зашел человек от которого адски несет куревом, вам неприятно, но вы терпите - общественный транспорт, все-таки. Просто не повезло. И самолет - такой же общественный транспорт, ребят, в котором может не повезти с соседями - это жизнь. 1 СЕНТЯБРЯ Мокрый асфальт, серое небо, моросящий дождик, тяжелые неудобные гладиолусы, синяя школьная форма с кожаной нашивкой на рукаве, серый ранец с нарисованной рыжей некрасивой собакой. Линейка перед школой, дети мечутся туда сюда, от родителей к классной руководительнице, шурша целлофаном букетов. Не помню ни слова из вступительных речей. Одноклассники вроде те же, но уже очень сильно другие. За лето все выросли, взгляды потяжелели, у всех в деревнях у бабушек появились новые крутые компании, всем уже не интересно с теми мелкими школьными друзьями, с которыми они попрощались в начале лета. Но к концу дня привыкнут. Разговоры только о том, будут ли сегодня нормальные уроки, или всем скажут, что это день знаний и отпустят домой. Садишься на прохладный деревянный стул, раскладываешь свежие тетрадки в новых, еще не исцарапанных полиэтиленовых обложках, и где то под сердцем, очень тоскливо начинает тянуть. За улыбками и болтовней ощущение надвигающейся рутины с привкусом тюремного срока. Мотивация детей исключительно в стиле «ты должен» и «это твоя обязанность». И ты уже знаешь, что ты будешь до дрожи рук бояться родительского собрания, потому что родителям скажут что ты сообразительный, но исключительно ленивый, они придут домой расстроенные и ты будешь думать что всех подвел. Ты знаешь как полетят страницы из дневника, с выдранными двойками. Как будешь подделывать подпись родителей и на следующей неделе будешь просить маму расписаться, крепко зажимая пальцем предыдущие страницы. А потом прозвенит звонок и в коридоре будет драка.
