Often times new parents are surprised at how little it takes to feed their newborn. When they see the small amount of colostrum their body is producing in the first days after birth they will sometimes worry if that is in fact enough. Most of the time, it is! Your newborn only needs about 1-1.5tsp (5-7ml) of your colostrum in the first two days of life. By day 3 they are eating more, about 3/4oz-1oz (22ml-30ml) per feeding. More times than not your body is making enough for your newborn in those first few days. If you’re pregnant and planning to breastfeed, get informed about how your body works, what helps this process, what can hinder the process and how much your baby needs. 7 weeks ago we happily (& unexpectedly) welcomed a new member to our gay chicken farm! We are foster parents. We’ve had a love/hate relationship with our experience. The system is hard especially for artists. Artists are free thinkers, dreamers, rule breakers, change makers. The system is rules, regulations, checks & balances, red tape. Yet, caught in the middle of art & politics are over 21,000 children in LA County in need of homes, safe spaces, parents, guardians, gay chicken farmers—that’s us. So once again, we go charging into the red tape abyss as we attempt to make our loving family...legal. We are not heroes. Far from it. We are normal dads. Let’s not make foster parenting “heroic”. Let’s stop that. Because the word “hero” separates us. Makes things feel impossible when they are, in fact, entirely possible. The only thing that seems impossible to me is how lucky we are to be raising two of the most beautiful boys. Trust me, they’re really beautiful. I get a lot of the same questions. “When are you having kids”, “did you get checked?”, “When will you know”. The thing is we’ve both been checked numerous of times and for 5 years now. My tubes are open, I ovulate regularly, my scar tissue isn’t in the way, my eggs (pic correction) are fine & he has an high number of swimmers. It feels like it’s only the matter of timing. Which everyone has an opinion but a lot of you fail to understand the amount of pain I am in when I ovulate. It’s not a just “do it” & get it over with thing. I’m nauseous, I’m grumpy, I’m tired it feels like my cervix is opening & then I have this throbbing pain from my pelvic to my hip to my thighs that feels like there’s no circulation, so you tell me do you think you would still be in the mood? 😒 even when I push thru this to make my baby I get only 1 line on my pt. So, in the meantime we are still trying naturally & seeing a doctor for ivf. It’s not that cheap so this won’t happen in 2 months. There’s steps you have to take & we’re making those. 📷: @alovelycookie Sending all of the positive fertility affirmations your way for whatever lies ahead of you this week. No amount of tears can express the pain I’m in from this. You were my best friend Geej. Me and sterling cried all morning and can’t seem to bring this into reality. The last convo we had was him coming to see Matteo... coming to see his God son that he checked on constantly. Constantly asking how he was doing. And it really hurts i never got to see my brother again. He never got to see his God son again... i never got to speak to my brother for the last time. We get busy with life and take the ppl we love for granted thinking they will always be here.. thinking that time isn’t a factor.. I can’t even express how I truly feel. I wish I could have spoke to him and seen him once last time. We got busy with life and took that time for granted.. we never truly know what we have until it’s gone. He wasn’t suppose to go. Not like this. I wish i could reverse time to his last moments. I sit and think is there anything i could have done to prevent this but i had to realize this was God’s timing.. he took his strongest angel from all the suffering on earth. Please make sure u keep in touch with your loved ones and never take their life or time for granted. We never truly know what tomorrow shows.. i can’t stop crying... I can’t stop looking at all the photos we have together. This cuts deep. i took these last few years of his life for granted because of time.... I want to just tell him that. Have one last conversation with my brother. and want to take back time. I miss my dude. I miss my dawg. I still can’t belive I actually lost a brother. I can’t belive we are going through this and having to bury a brother. It’s the most hurtful feeling. I just hate I couldn’t be there to wake him up, or be there during his last moments here.
