This is a comparison photo based on a recent post from @georgiepurcell. The chicken on the left was saved from the chicken meat industry and is pictured at 2 weeks old. Sadly, these chickens are pumped with hormones so that at 8 weeks old they will be big enough to slaughter. Unfortunately, even when rescued, these chickens only have 1-3 year life expectancy due to how quick their tiny bodies grow. On the right is my 3 week old chicken saved from death through a Henny Penny hatching project. Notice the size difference? The chicken on the left is older in the photos, but still sits in the palm of my hand. Fortunately, my chick will have a life expectancy of 9-12 years, and grow at a natural rate.
