Adham Khan Being Thrown from the Walls of Agra, from the `Akbarnama, Adham Khan (1531 – 16 May 1562) was a general of Akbar. He was the younger son of Maham Anga, he thus became the foster brother of Akbar. In his fourth regnal year, Akbar married him to Javeda Begum, the daughter of Baqi Khan Baqlani. In November, 1561 Akbars favourite general Ataga Khan, was appointed wakil (the prime minister), replacing Munim Khan. His appointment displeased Maham Anga. On May 16, 1562, Adham Khan accompanied by a few ruffians burst in upon him as he sat in the hall of audience and murdered him. Adham Khan then rushed to the inner apartment, where he was caught by Akbar, just roused from sleep by tumult. Akbar replied to Adham Khans explanation to palliate his crime by striking him down with a heavy blow of his fist. Adham was thrown down twice from the roof of a one storied building whose height was about 10 feet (which was possibly the reason why he had to be thrown down twice) by royal order and put to death. Akbar himself broke this news to Maham Anga, who made a simple but dignified reply that he did well. The sudden demise of Adham Khan made his mother mentally depressed, and after forty days she also died. #adhamkhan #mughalart #mughalarchitecture #mughalempire #mughalminiaturepainting #akbarnama #mughaldynasty #mughalarts #mughalartandarchitecture #miniaturepainting #medievalart #mughalhistory #historylovers #mughalhistory #mughals #mughalarchitecture #mughalsultanate #miniatures #historicalfiction - @vintage_puresoul on Instagram

In this depiction Thoth holds the Ankh or Key of Life to the nose of the deceased King Seti I, so giving him life in the afterlife. Thoth was the god of wisdom, writing, hieroglyphs, science, magic, art, judgment, and the dead. He became credited by the ancient Egyptians as the inventor of writing. Probably the most influential invention that has ever occurred on this planet. . . . . . . #museosalinas #lestoriedituttinoi #greekmythology #mitologiagreca #archeologia #archaeology #greekceramics #ceramicart #ceramicartist #ceramique #teseo #museitaliani #mibact #greekhistory #storiagreca #beniculturali30 #greekart - @museosalinas on Instagram

We all know, that one of our favorite indoor games is playing cards. However, did you know about the ancient Indian cards game called, ‘Ganjifa’? The Ganjifa playing practices in India were introduced and popularized by the Mughal emperors. Once established, the game spread to other regions, either in its Mughal form or in a Hinduized form. By the 16th century, several types of Ganjifa games developed. Bishnupur, in the Bankura district in West Bengal, was the only region in Bengal where the Hinduized Ganjifa cards were crafted – called the ‘Dashavatar’. Here, the game was changed both in its content and rules. 10 suits of 12 circular cards each, totalling to 120 cards in all were used. The motif painted on the cards were related to the theme, ‘10 Avatars (Incarnations) of Lord Vishnu – Dus (ten) avatar or Dashavatar in Bengali. The cards are handmade wherein first, a piece of cloth is folded several times and pasted using glue made from tamarind seeds. After drying, a layer of chalk dust is applied. Both the sides are evened out with a smooth stone. The cards are then cut into round shapes of 4-and-a-half-inch radius. The Dashavatar (10 incarnations) cards are a part of the rich heritage of Bishnupur in Bankura district of West Bengal and are a unique example of Bengal’s folk-art craft. The craftsman who made these Dashavatar cards were masters in the art of painting. However, a popular game once, today this craft faces extinction and it now survives mainly as a collector’s item. . . 📸@biswa_bangla@outlooktraveller #cards #cardsgame #ganjifa #ganjifacards #dashavatar #lordvishnu #lordvishnuavatars #handmade #westbengalhandicraft #bishnupur #bankura#folkart #indianfolkart #indianpainting #indianart #godsofindia #mughalart #bengalart #handpainted #playingcardsart #playingcards #collectorsitem #craftlove #indiandeity#indiantijori - @indiantijori on Instagram

Today we celebrate California Native American Day! . Crystal Cove State Park lies within the territory historically occupied by the Gabrielino (Tong-Va) and Juaneno (Acjachemen), both speakers of Uto-Aztecan Shoshoenean languages. They built their villages near water sources as they set out on seasonal gathering and hunting trips. They ate fish from the kelp beds and tidepools, birds, and a variety of other plants and animals. The period between ~3000 and 1350 BCE is characterized by the first appearance of the mortar and the pestle, associated with the processing of acorns. These communities developed a number of specialized crafts and tools, including intricate nets, carved fishhooks, basketry, and stone implements. .. Gabrielino and Juaneno village sites included large domed circular structures thatched with tules. Like the Chumash to the north, they used large, wooden plank vessels called tomols to travel to the Channel Islands and to fish for deep-water marine resources. .. . The Acjachemen and Tong-Va communities still thrive here in Orange County and we pay honor to their culture today. . To see replicas of items used by early residents of Crystal Cove, stop by the Visitor Center located at the Ranger Station or the outdoor Acjachemen exhibit located in Moro Canyon. .. Illustration by Anne Handberry for the local childrens book titled Ehengmay and the Raven written by Jeannine Perdersen-Guzman, with the goal of using storytelling to accurately honor the local Native American culture. . #castateparks #castateparksoc #crystalcove #crystalcovestatepark #CaliforniaNativeAmericanDay - @crystalcovestatepark on Instagram

#ibeji - @faleafrofuturo on Instagram

Disinformation 3. False equivalence. Humans don’t have a well developed sense of gradations of bad, because we generally want to avoid things that are bad altogether. So, I can manipulate this weakness by making false connections between one bad thing and another. Let’s say, you have heard that Person A committed perjury, lying under oath. This particular lie might have terribly damaging nationwide impact. If you were to dwell upon the scale and damage of this lie, you would become angry at Person A and perhaps switch “sides” to Person B. I don’t want that. So to distract you, I assert that the opponent, Person B, also lies. He lied about a car that he bought, and how expensive it was. And this is true, he did lie. So if Person B lies and Person A lies, what’s the difference? But the goal of pointing out that Person B lies is not for you to compare the two lies, because one is much worse. The potential damage to the nation is not comparable to a lie about a car. My real goal is not to argue, it is to deactivate you. To actually to make you stop thinking about the big lie that Person A told. It’s like shutting off the flow of thinking, Like turning off an alarm bell. False equivalence falsely rebalances an out of balance situation, so that it goes back to zero in your mind, and you stop thinking about it. If someone brings it up, you will think “Oh well, person B lied too.” And then we will never revisit the vastly different scale of these two lies, because no one ever thinks about it. False equivalence stops you from thinking before you even get a chance to do so. Of course, by convincing you that all choices are equally bad I am also convincing you to do nothing, because what is the point? And so, a certain percentage of people will choose to do nothing, which is the only tactical point of bringing up a false equivalence. Many many disinformation techniques are just a fancy way of saying “sit down and shut up.” Inactive people increase the power of active people. - @joerohde on Instagram

. . . #gemelliibeji #culture #museum #art #colonialism #africa #museoparticipative #etnografia #oggettidincontro #artenigeriana #mudecmilano #mudecmuseodelleculture #collezionepermanentemudec #museiaperti #culturedelmondo #visitmilano - @mudec_official on Instagram

Kamsa Maya: Raja Ravi Varma, one of the most celebrated Indian artists of the late 18th century has been a huge inspiration for me. Looking through some of his work with the available resources, Kamsa Maya just got me hooked. With the expression of Kamsa, it was hard for me not to give this painting a try. . By this time, I figured out a grid method in order to scale a painting. Being a self-learner, I still remember the maths I did in scaling this painting from a small photographic reference, it was tiring. I think, what really takes me back is the sheer enjoyment and the will to copy his work, to learn from the master. Reflecting on my thought process, I see a theme that was incepted way back in my early teenage. Growing up in a religious household, my fascination with gods was only just, and little did I know that today I would love to embark on the journey to explore Hindu Mythology. This was my 2nd painting in oil, at the age of 15. Apologies for the reflection on the glass, this is the best I could source form the current owner of this painting. . . . #medioevo #middleages #letteratura #manoscritto #bestiario #miniatura #manuscript #aberdeen #bestiary #cultura #arte #insegnante #passione #filologia - @letteratur_arte on Instagram
