Summer is almost over and we just want to remind you that the cold weather ahead is also the perfect timing for a #LangleysGin cocktail such as the Hot Toddy 🔥 So take notes and keep it in mind:⁣ ⠀⁣ 50ml Old Tom Gin⁣ 1 clementine juice⁣ 1 tsp honey⁣ 1 cinnamon stick⁣ 1 star anise⁣ few cloves⁣ orange slice⁣ 150ml hot water⁣ ⠀⁣ Combine gin, clementine juice and honey in a heatproof glass and stir until honey dissolves. Stick cloves into an orange slice, add it to the glass as well as cinnamon stick and star anise. They are devastating. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Hurricane Laura, another severe weather event, devastated SW Louisiana just 2 weeks ago. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE? ⁣⁣ It is the global phenomenon that includes the global warming driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases, resulting in large-scale shifts in weather patterns (temperature, precipitation, and wind), sea level rise, glacier loss, and extreme weather events. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT ALLERGIES/ASTHMA?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🔹Rising temperatures lead to earlier and longer allergy seasons and worsen air quality. ⁣⁣ 🔹The amount of pollen and allergens produced by plants increases⁣⁣ 🔹The amount of mold increases⁣⁣ 🔹Changes to levels of outdoor ozone and particulate matter (AIR POLLUTION)⁣⁣ 🔹Air pollution can alter properties of allergens, increasing how allergic we are to them⁣⁣ 🔹Extreme weather events- extreme temperature, floods, droughts, thunderstorms, wildfires, and dust storms. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ More allergens in the air can mean more allergy symptoms and asthma. Otis Boykin was born on August 29, 1920, in Dallas Texas. He had 26 patents in his name and is famed for the development of IBM computers, burglar-proof cash register, chemical air filters, and an electronic resistor used in controlled missiles and other devices. 💻📻 His father, Walter B. Boykin, was a carpenter, who later became a preacher and his mother Sarah was a maid, who died of heart failure when Otis was one. After graduating from high school, he attended Fisk College in Nashville, Tennessee, graduating in 1941. That same year, he took a job as a lab assistant with the Majestic Radio and TV Corporation in Chicago, Illinois and grew in the ranks, along with becoming the supervisor. Otis took a position with the P.J. Nilsen Research Laboratories while trying to start his own business, Boykin-Fruth Incorporated. At the same time, he decided to continue his education, pursuing graduate studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago but later dropped out because of his finances. 💻📻 Boykin took interest in working with resistors and began researching and inventing on his own and received a patent for a wire precision resistor on June 16, 1959. This resistor would later be used in radios and televisions nationwide. Two years later, he created a breakthrough device that could withstand extreme changes in temperature and pressure. The device came in great demand by the United States military for guided missiles and IBM for computers. 1964, Boykin moved to Paris, creating electronic innovations for the future he imagined. His most famous invention was a control unit for the pacemaker. Ironically, Boykin died in Chicago in 1982 as a result of heart failure. Upon his death, he had 26 patents to his name. 📻💻 Work and school are all virtual now. My family gave me some flowers yesterday. They spoke so much life and promise into me. I don’t think anyone other than God knows how this season has been for me. I’ve had my share of battles these past couple of years and lost things I never thought I’ll lose but faith, perseverance and vision has helped me to continue to fight. Woke up to some more loses but I hold onto the promise that all things work for my good. I’m blessed no matter what ups and downs I have because I have a solid foundation and a pure heart. I don’t get everything right but I’m working on it and I’m giving myself grace to fall and get back up, to not let an action define me and to move with compassion and deeper understanding in all situations. You don’t have to go over to the other side to enjoy our Jägermeister Grass is Greener cocktail! - 50ml Jägermeister - Add the lemongrass cordial* - 100ml Coconut Water - Drop of sesame oil Glass: Hi-Ball Garnish: Lemongrass leaves Ice: Cubed *Lemongrass cordial method: STEP 1: Place lemongrass in a mortar and pound until lightly bruised. STEP 2: Place the sugar and water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until the sugar dissolves. Add the lemongrass. Increase heat to high and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer for 5 minutes or until the syrup thickens slightly. Set aside for 30 minutes to cool. Strain the syrup through a fine sieve into a jug. Discard lemongrass.
