Happy days in France 🚙✌️ . Op dag drie van onze reis startte Jumpy niet meer. Het bleek om een gaatje in de brandstofslang te gaan, als ik het allemaal goed heb meegekregen in het Frans. . Dat betekende dat we een dag later dan gepland aankwamen bij Simone in het schitterende Dordogne. Een plek die na vorige zomer als een thuis voelt. . Na twee dagen vol lekker eten en goede gesprekken, slapen we vanavond weer in Jumpy. THIS IS A LONG ONE TODAY! In the middle of summer, we made a decision that we were going to plan some camping/glamping trips. Being cooped up in the city during this entire time in an apartment has made us really miss the great outdoors. Thinking about traveling makes us nervous and anxious, especially since the state of NY still has a pretty large quarantine list (that I am pretty certain that people aren’t following, but that’s beyond my personal control and it does no good worrying as its been an anxious year already) Not to mention the personal struggle of whether promoting travel is even responsible at this time - or how to promote it to responsibly because so many rely on tourism. There is a duty to also think about the communities and the locals of the places we as travel marketers and content creators are promoting. We decided to do some small, short driving distance trips in the state of NY where we could minimally come in contact with others, safely enjoy activities outdoors, and also get that recharge we needed for our own sanity. We spent 4 lovely nights in this vintage 1965 camper located on a farm just outside Ithaca, NY where we spent our days enjoying some outdoor activities like hiking to some of the 150 waterfalls in a 10 mile radius, visiting farms who had their fall festivities going on, and enjoyed wine, cider, and beer tastings all outdoors. This is not only what we needed to reconnect with each other, but also get that little break that we so much needed and get outdoors as its been a ROUGH YEAR for everyone. We have another trip like this planned next month Upstate and we look forward to sitting under the stars together again. We’re still personally trying to navigate the best course of action during this time as were conflicted and our opinions change frequently and we realize everyone will have a different stance on travel depending on where you’re from, not all our followers are US based, and in the US alone there are wildly various opinions, restrictions, protocols. If youve been following my stories, you already know, but big changes are in the works. 🚌 One of my chief complaints about Vanlife has been the lack of space. It’s not so much that I don’t have everything I really need (I mean, I have a shower and carry two bikes and a full size guitar; I definitely have more than I need), it’s more that the van just isn’t really a comfortable space to live in. While it’s great as a means to travel, when you spend a full day sitting in the same seat to drink coffee, listen to the news, work, eat, and stare at your phone too much, it starts to feel small pretty quickly. • The bus will very much be focused on creating a more comfortable living space, with the tradeoff of not being able to go quite as many places. • It will mean space to spread out and stay a while. To have dedicated areas for different aspects of life – a desk to work, a couch to lounge, a bathroom that isn’t also the kitchen and living room. To have enough room to carry a few indulgent toys (can you say dirtbike). To fit enough solar power to never worry about running out of juice or plugging in your friends when they’re low. To actually stretch and do yoga inside. Bei uns ist heute ein kleiner Helfer eingezogen: Ein @flextrash fürs Auto. 3L Fassungsvermögen, ein Stoffmülleimer aus recycelten Plastikflaschen der gewaschen werden kann und nicht mal im Weg ist. Durch die mitgelieferten Halterungen hängt er jetzt an der Kopfstütze, sieht optisch sogar schön aus. Wir hatten vorab einen 5L Mülleimer, der grundsätzlich im Weg stand, wir haben dieses Ding entweder im Schrank gehabt wo man nicht direkt dran kam oder haben ihn im Bus 5x hin und her geräumt damit er uns aus den Füßen war. Das Problem haben wir jetzt nicht mehr. Say hello to the newest feature of our van 👋 We built this forest-ey archway last week using fallen branches and we just put up a highlight called Archway documenting the whooole process. 📸 . We had the idea a couple months before but kept holding back because we were scared it would fall apart when the van drove over bumps. 😬We couldnt find any tutorials online for building something similar and that made us super hesitant and intimidated, but eventually we pushed through our doubts and gave it a try and it was so easy! 🛠 Now our door merges perfectly with the wild nature outside it, we just need to add some fairy lights & were finished.🌿🌲 . That feeling when you’re camped out in your favorite desert hideaway, hangin’ in a bathrobe, cookin’ vegetables you sowed from seed. And what really gets me fired up: the way all these joys intersect. It’s all I can think about this summer. We’ve been connecting the dots between outdoor advocacy, environmental justice, and social justice—but now in 2020, we’re seeing that this isn’t a small cycle of connectivity, it’s a web where everything is inextricably tangled. Outdoor advocacy is environmental justice is social justice is food justice is land stewardship is land back is community justice is community joy. I’ve been spending more time at my @wasatchcommunitygardens plot downtown than I have hiking on the trails I can see from my backyard—and I wondered I was becoming less of an outdoorist. And then I realized what an exclusionary, narrow-minded thought that was. I’m not becoming less of an outdoorist, I’m expanding everything that it means to identify as an outdoorist. The more we grow (both figuratively as a human being and literally with those tomatoes in my backyard), the better we can learn, serve, support, build. What parts of yourself have you excluded from your identity as an outdoor advocate? How can we intersect and expand? How can we use all of our life joys (and frustrations) to be better advocates? There’s no legislative action item or grand definitive statement here today, just a call to start looking around and opening your eyes to the ways that everything in your life connects and affects, and the opportunities you have to do something good with it all. Yesterday I crossed into south of Spain and decided to take a more inland route. Having drove for about 3 hours along windy roads, it was a pleasant change to the freeways. Arriving at this natural cave you can see. After exploring on foot I found a fresh water source flowing out into the most crystal clear lagoon which feeds small streams either side. I’ve spent the last few days cleaning up sewage from our septic explosion, catching up on chores and finally unpacking more boxes. My accident was two weeks after our move in April. I’ve only been able to wear a real shoe for about a week due to swelling - which I’ll still experience for a year. Because it’s still uncertain whether or not I’ll need an additional surgery, I’ve been in overdrive trying to help my partner with and endless string of chores we’d deferred all summer before I’m back on crutches for another 2-3 months. This cabin isn’t going to rehab itself! Sweet Rosebud right here needed some TLC. She helped us move and became something of a work truck for a few months there, after my partner’s vehicle ate shit. She was a bit too filthy to inhabit and suffered a ton of dings from moving tons of furniture. There was even still some bird poop from when we left the windows down one day 🤪 She got a deep clean and some sprucing up, sanding, painting, etc and is looking about as nice we she looked when I first finished her! - @girlwithnocompass on Instagram

Living for MORE with LESS Vanlife day 4 and couldn’t be more at HOME than I am when I’m in @that.yellow.van I always get so nervous before we move into the van for a little while because we are just so conditioned to all the accommodations of our house (which is also on wheels🤷🏽‍♀️🤪) and the obvious downsize- but I rarely feel cramped and somehow we have all that we need! Plus our yard is literally wherever we choose to park. Oh and it’s officially beanie weather from here on out for the duration of the trip!🤘🏽🤙🏽 Boondocked in a National Forest last night with the most epic views! So we decided to stay another night! Colorado you have been too good to us! Sad we have to head out early in the morning but @wanderworkshop is calling our names! Can’t freaking wait to meet my oily sister and literal photog idol @dawn_photo @juniperhaus_ IN REAL LIFE! Oh and PEEP THAT ARIA PSK IS BACK IN STOCK! Get with it🤙🏽👏🏽 we couldn’t leave our girl in Texas! So she’s been living that #vanlife with us! Makes our nights cozier, high mountain roads less stressful, sleep deeper and VIBES just overall better. Parker and I have this thing where we energy check one another and we will both be like “I need some EO” 😂😂 My point is the aria is an entire vibe on her own- just pretty rad you get all the other goodies along with her, oh and my welcome gift! The first trip in our little Westy. . We headed down the West Coast starting in Victoria, BC, through Washington State and into Oregon. We travelled into central Oregon all the way down to Crater Lake and now were heading back through the interior and stopping in Bend, Mount Hood and Portland. . On day 1, trying to make it to Kamloops from Edmonton, we found that it took a bit longer in our westy than we had planned and it was getting dark out. As we were realizing we wouldnt be making it to Kamloops on time, I saw a sign for a motel and campground and joked about staying there, Carina said lets do it. The place we stopped at looked like this shitty horror movie motel, the guy said he had an opening down by the lake and we took it. We were just happy to have somewhere to sleep for the night but what we didnt realize was that the first night in our van would be a special one. It was the night of the full moon and we stared at it and took night photos. It feels so great to be back out in the true Pacific Northwest, posting today from my campsite on Whidbey Island! very grateful for this adventure. 11.5 miles roundtrip, a beautiful downhill trek on the way in and a major test of endurance on the way back up, gaining 2,000 ft in elevation. soaking in hot springs while a thunderstorm passed overhead and setting up camp right by some haunted as fuck abandoned cabins. camping has been one of my only sources of joy through the past 5 months. being able to breath fresh air and listen to natural silence has been extremely healing. but i want to acknowledge that our 419 national park sites largely focus on white american stories, host predominantly white visitors and are managed by one of the least diverse agencies in the federal government. the parks service has been plagued by racism since its founding in 1916 and the protected areas/monuments have paid little attention to places of cultural significance to people of color. i’m committing monthly donations to @outdoorafro and @campfoundergirls - who provide a variety of programming to the Black community in order to equitably reconnect with the natural world through outdoor recreation. let’s continue to redistribute our wealth and access to natural experiential wellness. - @molly_wk on Instagram

We’ve been on this ride with Yama for the last year and a half (or so). The reality is that it has been a roller coaster. Entrepreneurship is glamourized on social media as having the ability to dictate your own schedule, limitless financial gains, and a flashy lifestyle. The truth is that very few entrepreneurs reach that potential and the ones who have went through the painstaking grind to get there. I’m extremely proud of our team at Yama and what we have accomplished in a short amount of time, but it hasn’t been without sacrifice. It’s meant taking on financial risk (and the anxiety that comes with that), spending our free time in the shop or boardrooms, pressure on our personal relationships and dealing with constant emotional highs and lows. All of this is to say that I love the journey we are on, but it is certainly not painless. Das ist die derzeitige Situation des Wohnbereichs. Die Polster haben wir letztes Jahr schon neu beziehen lassen - dafür reichten meine Handarbeit-Skills nicht... 😬 Als wir die Kuschelbude übernommen haben, waren sie mit dem orange karierten Stoff bezogen, der sich jetzt noch als Kissenbezug und als Gardinen an den kleinen Fenstern findet. Das hatte meine Freundin @annadreana glücklicherweise schon verändert. 😅 Das Farbkonzept blau/orange soll grundsätzlich bleiben; aber Kissen und Vorhänge fliegen raus und werden ersetzt. Dazu weiße Wände und Schränke. Vielleicht bleiben die Frontklappen braun? 🤔 Ich bin aber nicht sicher. Das entscheiden wir spontan, muss ja eh alles auseinandergenommen werden. Als ich kürzlich dieses Bild in der Story meines Food-Accounts (@odettekocht , falls es jemanden interessiert 😇) hatte, schrieb mir meine Food- und Deko-Bloggerfreundin Steffi @homenherbs , dass diese Wachstuchtischdecke ja so wahnsinnig “oldschool” sei. Meine Kids seien doch schon groß, da könnte ich die doch durch was Moderneres austauschen?! 🤭 Sie hat ja so recht; klarer Fall von #betriebsblind ! 😂🙈🤣 Wahrscheinlich hat Steffi mir damit den letzten Schubser gegeben, ein paar Dinge endlich in die Hand zu nehmen! I moved into a house 9 months ago and Ive been selfishly hanging on to this adventure machine. She needs to be free out there wandering down desert roads and cruising beaches in Cabo. A year ago, If you asked me where I’d be today, I don’t know what answer I would have given. When you lose everything, you assume it’s forever. The saying “time heals”, is a true statement for all. You just need to be patient. 7 months ago I met the most amazing woman for the second time in my life. Most are lucky to find love once, I don’t take for granted how fortunate I am finding it twice. I never dreamed of starting a family or feeling the kick of a baby girl I helped create. Over the past months @amanda_basham has been there for me on the hard days and has celebrated the great days with me. She wandered out to find me on the Pawnee Buchanan Trail when I bit off a trail I wasn’t ready to chew. Now she is growing our daughter, eating lots of pancakes and having crazy insomnia. I’m so grateful I met her this past January down in Texas and so thankful I get to raise a child with her. I’ve always been fortunate to be surrounded by incredibly inspiring women and now I get to try to raise one ❤️. I’ll take all the advice I can get. After months of chilling temperatures, weve made it outta the northern states and are headed south towards Miami. While visiting Chincoteague Island, Virginia, we saw this oversized peace sign and thought we oughta stop for a little self-timer family portrait... Living in a van was largely a financial choice for me. ⠀⠀ I had long been curious about a more nomadic lifestyle, but the decision to move into this van came as a result of my uncoupling. At the time of the divorce my small business was still in an uncertain place, but I didnt want to give up on it so I did some math. ⠀⠀ Once I saw that rent, utilities, and furniture to stay in Bend, Oregon for one year would cost the same as buying and building out the van I wanted, I chose the van. Sure I could have moved to a cheaper city or maybe found roommates on Craigslist, but having a tiny mobile home that was all mine, that I could live in indefinitely (or sell if needed), for the cost of a single years living expenses gave me comfort. And arent so many of our financial decisions based on what gives us a feeling of comfort and security? ⠀⠀ So now I live full-time in a 2016 Ford Transit Connect van, which I bought in 2018 for $17,000 ($14,369 after trading in an older vehicle as part of the sale). ⠀⠀ My criteria in choosing a van were: 1) great condition (since I dont have mechanical skills), 2) low mileage (Trixie had just over 21k miles when I bought her), 3) small enough to drive easily, get good fuel mileage, and be comfortably useable as a daily vehicle (in case I didnt love full-time van life). ⠀⠀ The build costs (including fridge) were $1887, and that work was done with an enormous amount of help from very generous friends. I outsourced the electrical work ($2372), because those are not skills I currently have and the time frame of when I needed to move into the van was too short to make mistakes. And so the out-of-pocket total was $18,628, which my former spouse and I paid for in cash from our joint savings as part of how we split our assets. ⠀⠀ I know people whose vans cost significantly more, and significantly less. There are many ways to make this lifestyle work, and lets not forget that people have always lived in vehicles (often not by choice) which means that the glorification of poverty that comes with the van life movement needs to be interrogated. ⠀⠀ There have been pros and cons to van life, but overall Im really happy with my choice! - @nic.antoinette on Instagram

Friday, August 28, 2020 - The day Dom and I were supposed to get married. Needless to say, COVID changed our plans a little and forced us to do something else. Instead, we crossed North America twice, met awesome people, started working on an epic project and realized how lucky we were to do all this. We also learned the English word “postponed” and that’s what we’ll do with our wedding today. We’ll get married in exactly 365 days. But for now, Dom and I will leave our phones in the van for 24 hours and do our own little ceremony in Victoria’s harbour, BC. Alone. With some occasional seals interrupting our conversations. Il va sans dire que la COVID a un peu modifié nos plans et nous a forcé à vivre autre chose. Plutôt, on a traversé lAmérique du Nord deux fois, on a rencontré des gens passionnants, on a commencé à travailler sur un projet duquel on rêvait depuis longtemps mais on a surtout réalisé à quel point on était chanceux de vivre tout ça. #Throwback Monday?! Whatever, its quarantine... Three years ago, whoa! 🤯 There were two humans and one doggo (the loveliest @destroyerofsticks ) & we had juuuust moved into the bus with only the flooring and insulation done. There was no kitchen, no bed (check out that fancy floor-couch), and obviously no ceiling. I had wired 120v outlets which made the bus essentially an appliance to plug an extension cord into. 👷‍♀️ THREE YEARS AGO! Ive come a long way. The bus has, too. It’s funny the way traveling this way can change you’re perspective on a multitude of rather common things. A strip mall in the middle of nowhere New York that we both deemed worthy to be our “favorite strip mall in the US”, I think mainly out of ease and convenience after a long travel day. Yes, we really did drop a google location pin on a strip mall, just in case we end up near that area again. Or a dirt road we always wander down in Utah that we pinned as our “secret spot away from the spring vacation crowds”. Or this tiny pull off in Wyoming, “best pull off to stop at for some morning coffee” —it’s not at all hard to see why we pinned and saved this one! ⠀ ⠀ We’ve been pinning little random places and stops all over the US, that would probably have no meaning to most people, but for us, returning to these marked spots, feels a little like driving by an old house or town we used to live in; you slowly drive through, and eagerly look to see what has changed or stayed the same...And we’ve started to realize, more often than not, the biggest most noteworthy changes have more to do with us than the actual places.⠀ ⠀ We took a photo in this exact spot two years ago 💚⠀ ⠀ Broke in our new @blundstoneusa boots with a great view this go around! #blundstonepartner #blundstone150 - @slowcarfasthome on Instagram

I GOT MY HOUSE BACK Y’ALL 😍⁣ ⁣ The good sis has been getting her carb replaced for, quite frankly, way too long, and she’s finally ready to get back on the road.⁣ ⁣ The past few weeks without my literal home have been kinda miserable. I’m not going to sugar coat it. I was and am fortunate enough to have amazing friends in the Denver area that welcomed me with open arms & a giant bed (love u booboos💕) but no matter where you land & how at home you feel, being without 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 space is still very unsettling. ⁣ ⁣ At random times, my anxiety would launch a barrage of questions assaulting my peace: Will I be able to afford this repair? Will the “easy fix” really be an easy fix? What happens if there’s something else? Is this the end of my life on the road? What happens if Hottie bl💣ws up at the shop? (deadass a real question I’ve thought AND asked multiple people out loud lmfaoooo) ⁣ ⁣ I’d legit be minding my business just to turn into that Jay-Z gif where he’s like, uncomfortably rocking in public any time my anxiety about the situation decided to resurface & start kicking my ass. ⁣ ⁣ And yet, we’re here.⁣ ⁣ She’s here. ⁣ ⁣ We’re good. ⁣ ⁣ We’re home.⁣ ⁣ & to answer my anxiety out loud: ⁣ ⁣ Will I be able to afford it? I was.⁣ ⁣ Was the easy fix an easy fix? It was.⁣ ⁣ What happens if there’s something else? Tragically there is. My girl has an oil leak, at the ripe old age of 41. 😢 She’ll be getting it fixed once we get back to TX. ⁣ ⁣ Is this the end of my life on the road? Goûter à La Liberté ✨ ⁣ Il y a 5 ans j’étais propriétaire d’un bel appartement, en couple, avec un CDI à plein temps. ⁣ J’étais heureuse? Oui plutôt, mais.. ⁣ Je sentais qu’il y avait autre chose de prévu pour moi, plus grand, plus libre, plus fou, plus beau. ⁣ J étais bien mais j’enviais ceux qui osent. ⁣ Car j y avais gouté et peut-être que c’était ancré. J’ai soufflé ma première bougie dans un combi VW en Finlande explorant les grands lacs 🚐 les voyages se sont enchaînés, la vie en van pour les vacances, cette liberté ✨ ⁣ La chance d’avoir des parents voyageurs qui m’y ont fait goûter et m’ont apporté cette curiosité, cette aisance, cette envie de découvrir le monde, les autres et de grandir eu fil des voyages. ⁣ Et puis, une longue pause de vie conventionnelle suivie en 2015 d’une rupture, un choc, je me retrouve seule. Et là un choix clair : tout quitter pour vivre ma vie et pas celle qu’il “faut” ou celle “de l’autre”. ⁣ Cette vie ce matin c’est se réveiller dans un van, ne pas savoir où on va tout à l’heure, prendre une tasse, un Thermos, descendre à la crique déserte tôt le matin en pyjama, réaliser qu’on ne verra pas le soleil se lever car on a dormi tard, rigoler, faire pipi derrière un bosquet de bambou, se baigner en culotte, faire la planche, boire son thé, méditer, petit déjeuner dans le plus joli des cafés avec une amie chère à mon cœur, sourire, vous partager mes pensées simplement pour vous dire d’oser suivre cette étincelle de vie qui vous habite car quand on la suit, tout s’aligne et on vit une vie merveilleuse ✨ ⁣ #vie#expériences#choix#rupture#chemin#lavie#croire#loidattraction#manifester#manifestation#toutquitter#van#vanlife#free#freedom#liberté#être - @end0uceur on Instagram

Chasing snow storms with friends and living in a van was a dream come true. First, I need to shoutout @adventure_lodge for giving me the opportunity to live out my vision and check another adventure off my bucket list. I am extremely grateful. Now let’s go over all the perks with renting out one of these vans. The van I rented out from @adventurelodge had a complete set up to comfortably live in the van while going on my powder chase. It had a queen size bed set up with underneath storage for mine and my friend’s ski/snowboard gear. Tons of storage! This Mercedes Sprinter had a little kitchen w/ a stovetop, & a mini fridge. The kitchen comes with pots, pans, and dinnerware. Need to shower? There’s even a pop out shower provided! AMAZING. Everything you need to stay comfortable while on the road adventuring! Big mountain free rider, Jeremy Jones, once said, “The attraction of snowboarding is the freedom it gives you. With a snowboard on your feet the sky is the limit. You can do anything and go anywhere.” This quote describes exactly why I love snowboarding so much. Having my feet strapped to my board while sending it through some fresh powder is one of the best feeling. Me & my friends traveled to Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. I can say the van fit up to three people at a time somewhat comfortably. At least comfortable enough for just hanging out inside a van. Also want to shout out to my homie @coremazmeals for taking care of me while I was on my trip by sending me his meals. Check him out for your meal prep needs! Dear #lemonadediaries, Yesterday I Embarked on a journey across the country, something that is becoming, and I hope will further solidify, as an annual pilgrimage. @hillarywatsonmusic and I stopped in Creemore on the way to Sault Ste. Marie, where my parents met us with my grandpa, now 92, for lunch. It’s the first time I’d seen him since before the pandemic started...a whole 7 months ago now. That’s still weird to think about. I’ve been reflecting lately about how much solitary time many elderly (as well as immunocompromised) people have been experiencing through this— far more than the rest of us, despite our smaller bubbles. It’s brought up a lot of thinking about how we age in contemporary western society, and how we view and treat the elderly. For me, this brings up questions: what’s common elsewhere and in other cultures? What has aging and care for the elderly looked like historically? How do we view and value our elders? Why is that? What could we, and I, be doing better? What does change look like on a societal level, and more importantly on a personal one? This little house of mine has been giving some hard time lately! It is now mostly fixed but still has some leaks... ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FILMMAKERS/PHOTOGRAPHERS —⁣ ⁣ Allison + I were on a walk today, getting in some exercise with our pup since we’re taking time off from the gym (ps. this picture is the most accurate picture of our current lives right now...quarantined in our RV 😂🙌🏻), and we got to talking about what we could do to make the most of this time at home. We’ve found ourselves listening to podcasts, watching tutorials, + even learning a completely new set of skills — film photography + videography. Like ACTUAL REAL LIFE FILM, you guys 🎞📽🙌🏻 We’re just finding that given these circumstances, there’s been no better time for us to continue learning + growing. So, we kept asking ourselves what we could do to serve our industry. How can we be helpful to those in our community? How can we give back? What can we personally do to make a small difference in one persons life or business right now? ⁣ ⁣ In the midst of everything going on right now, with spring/possibly even summer wedding seasons being put on hold until further notice, we know a lot of filmmakers + photographers are finding themselves at home with a little extra time on their hands. We are right there with you. ⁣ ⁣ As we were talking, we kept coming back to my love for one on one teaching, sharing, + serving others in any way I can. Whether it’s by sharing our experiences, answering questions about gear, sharing tips we’ve learned over the past 7 years, or just sharing encouragement to anyone seeking ways to up-level their business or hone in on their filmmaking skills. I’m an open book + love encouraging others starting out in this business. We were there once + we still feel so grateful to all of the filmmakers who took us under their wings, answered our questions, + encouraged us in those beginning stages of our business.
