🏔Huayna Potosi, 6088masl (19,974 ft) is often referred to as one of the easier 6000m elevation climbs. However, when you get strong hight sickness at rock camp, and still has 1000 hight meters to go, you understand where the saying one step at the time originates from. [75 YEARS] Pictured here is Mateja Svet, with Elans most iconic model, the RC Comprex, which is the inspiration for our limited edition retro collection launching this fall to celebrate our 75th birthday. The RC Comprex dominated the World Cup in the latter half of the 80s and became a staple product on ski slopes globally. Driven by promotional efforts of Ingemar Stenmark, native Slovenian Bojan Krizaj, along with Mateja Svet, the RC was an innovative masterpiece. New core construction known as Comprex, used a new technique of shaping the wood-core and placing it in the ski in a compressed state, which reduced weight and concentrated mass under the skiers feet. In 2009 Jeff Shiffrin stood on the side of Loveland mountain in the middle of a blizzard to take pictures of a bunch of no name 13yr old kids. I didn’t have many photos of me racing yet and I felt pretty lucky to be one of those kids. He collected our email addresses after training and sent us all a link to a Flickr folder with our photos in it. . The reason I tell you this story is because this simple act made me feel like somebody else cared about my skiing, like it meant something. My career has come a long way since this blizzardy day at Loveland and I owe it to people like Jeff who went out of their way to encourage kids to pursue their dreams. . This past winter the Shiffrin family was struck with the challenging news of Jeff’s sudden passing. With this challenge they created an opportunity -The Jeff Shiffrin Athlete Resiliency Fund. Helping athletes to keep the flame of their dreams alive. Resiliency is only possible with the support of others. Natural avalanches like this one can run from steep rocky terrain during peak daytime heating. Avoid travel on and under steep rocky slope where these avalanches are most likely. To stay safe get into and out of the mountains early before the surface snow starts to lose cohesion. Remember you often have to move through lower elevation areas to egress from the mountains. Lower elevation slopes will become weaker and more dangerous before higher elevation slopes. Plan your day accordingly. As a white male in a predominantly white sport, I recognize that I am very privileged and lucky to be able to do what I do. I’ve been mulling over how I can make even the smallest difference I saw @dylansiggers auction, so I have decided to put these two sets of @k2.skis catamarans up for auction. The set on the right is the first generation catamaran and the left is in my opinion the best graphic of the catamaran. Right pair drilled 1 and a half times. Left set are drilled once but brand new.
