Der Sohn meiner Freundin, der mit knapp 2 Jahren an Leukämie erkrankt ist. Damals bin ich erstmalig mit seiner Geschichte an die Öffentlichkeit gegangen und wir haben gemeinsam einen Aufruf gestartet, an Carlos 2.Geburtstag aus dem Krankenhaus. Denn Carlos brauchte zum überleben einen Stammzellenspender. Die Geschichte hat mir damals den Boden unter den Füßen weggerissen und nichts erschien mehr wichtig. Wir wurden von einer Flut von Mitgefühl überrascht und direkt am selben Tag gab es knapp 3000 neu Registrierungen🙏🏻 Es folgen noch viele mehr. Es war ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit und Ende des Jahres kam die rettende Nachricht. Der Lebensretter war gefunden. Im Januar dann die Transplantation. Vorgestern ist Carlos 8 Jahre alt geworden💚 Viele warten immer noch auf ihren Lebensretter! I met Justice Ginsberg almost exactly 3 years ago at the centennial celebration of women in the Marine Corps. She was a surprise guest of the event and I literally almost ran into her when we both arrived at the same time. RBG is for me, like for so many others, my hero. She set an amazing example of resilience and of pushing on and persevering in the face of sexism in a profession that didn’t want women (much less mothers). She found a way, and she did so in a positive and productive manner. She changed things for the better not just for herself and not just in law, but for every professional woman that came after her (and let’s not forget that she fought for men’s rights just as fiercely as women’s. She fought for gender equality). One very specific case she took directly benefited me and every other female member the military: Frontiero v. Richardson. This case decided that benefits given by the United States military to the family of service members cannot be given out differently because of sex. Frontiero is an important decision in several respects, including the fact that it informed the military establishment that in terms of pay, allowances and general treatment, women must be considered on an equal plane as men (this didn’t fix gender issues in the military overnight - that’s an ongoing fight, but it was a huge sea change & was the foundation for many positive changes). At any rate, Back to my story: we arrived at the Women in the Marine Corps Centennial celebration at the same time and when I saw her my jaw just dropped and I stared, dumbfounded. I was literally speechless. I eventually introduced myself (I think?) and I shook her hand (or did she shake mine? Regardless our hands did shake!) and I think I said it was an honor to meet her (?) and Im pretty sure I mumbled something about her meaning so much to me (?) and on the whole I was a bumbling idiot the entire time. But I DONT CARE. I MET MY HERO! Later on at the event a couple of captains tugged me into a selfie. I was confused at first as to why, but then realized it had the most well placed photo-bomb ever. @lauraprepon sent me an early print of #YouandIAsMothers as a gift when my son was just 2 weeks old. I could not believe how much this book spoke to exactly what I was going through in those early weeks and months with my baby. From extreme anxiety to body issues to challenges with my husband, she had gone through all of it, wrote it down, and was there to comfort me during this time of extreme vulnerability and tenderness. I’m going to be giving this book as a gift at all baby showers from here on out, but this is also really a book for all women, mothers or not. I have so much admiration for Laura for having the courage to share her deeply personal struggles and pain because she made me feel like I wasn’t so alone with mine. She also gives a lot of great advice for how to get through some of the challenges of early motherhood (and life in general) - tools that were legitimately helpful and that I go back to again and again. It’s #worldbreastfeedingweek, and I I want to share my own experience in the hopes that it will help transform judgement into support for those on their own journey. After Max was born in April, I went into breastfeeding with hopeful optimism based on everything I’d seen and read. But when my milk didn’t come in right away, my almost 10-pound baby lost too much weight in his first few days and on top of that, I was experiencing excruciating pain while trying. Wasn’t this supposed to be easy? Natural? The doctor mandated formula on day 3 and I remember feeling so much relief that he was finally eating. I couldn’t see a lactation consultant in person because of COVID, and then on top of everything, I had a horrific, month-long bout of mastitis from a resistant bacteria that knocked out my hard-earned supply at week 3. I was so disappointed that my body wouldn’t cooperate. Once I was well again, Max and I got into a triple feeding (breastfeeding, pumping and formula) rhythm over the next few weeks, and I started to ask myself, if he was fed and happy, why had I been upset when I couldn’t get the hang of it? Even now, 15 weeks in, we’re still finding our groove triple feeding, and he’s perfectly happy with all of these options. I’ve learned to read his cues, to try not to force anything, and just do what feels right for us, and I finally feel like we’re doing great with it. But getting here was HARD. There just isn’t enough information, enough support, or enough grace given to new moms who are trying to do their best. Here is what I think about breastfeeding: 1. Whether you breastfeed, triple feed, pump, formula feed, IV feed or a combo of these, YOU ARE DOING AMAZING, SWEETIE! Your kid is happy. You are a great mama. 2. Breastfeeding isn’t for everyone, and that doesn’t make you less of a woman or a mother. It can be hard, painful, inconvenient, impossible or just not what you want to do, and that’s okay! Any decision you make is the right one if it works for you. 3. Try not to judge parents for any decisions they are making for their family. Worry about yourself, and if you can’t support others, at least try to keep your opinions to yourself. ❤️ - @rachbarb on Instagram

On Tuesday we lost my dad. He battled on for 2.5 years after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He’s finally out of pain and with God. I wasn’t going to post anything about a private matter, but we are raising money for mom. The money is to cover funeral expenses and we want mom to be able to stay in their house. –I Japan finns ett stort hjärta för Skogsmulle. Tänk att det på andra sidan jorden, längst med risfält, bäckar och lummiga skogar överösta av artrikedom, också strövar Skogsmullebarn tillsammans med sina ledare. För två år sedan var jag där. Med min kursledarkollega Camilla skulle jag utbilda pedagoger, träffa Japans Skogsmulleledare och hålla inspirationskurser. Intresset var enormt – kurserna blev snabbt fullbokade trots att vi ökat platserna tredubbelt! Sista dagen tittade 60 par ögon på mig när jag visade leken ”Ekorre byter bo” med hoppande, snurrande och storstegande rörelser. Med stor glädje träffade de Kocken Klorofyll som tillagade socker och syre av vatten, koldioxid och solstrålar. Och i tur och ordning höll de alla upp låtsasnyckelpigan, gjort av ett hasselnötsskal, på långfingret för att försiktigt visa nyckelpigan något vackert, högt och stort. Deltagarna älskade de lekfulla sätten att lära ut naturkunskaper på, och hur fantasi går att använda i allt. I våra samtal kom alla in på att det är det som Skogsmulle gör. Genom Skogsmulle bjuds vi alla in i fantasins värld och fångar barnens intresse, förmedlar kunskap och glädjen att upptäcka naturen. Skogsmulle är barnens vän i naturen, i Sverige som i Japan. När vi åkte hem hade vi också vunnit nya vänner i våra kursdeltagare. The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited Northern Ireland today! Their Royal Highnesses thanked individuals who have gone the extra mile during the pandemic. At the @ulstermuseum in Belfast, The Prince and The Duchess visited the Florence Nightingale exhibition. The exhibit celebrates the 200th anniversary of Nightingale’s birth, as well as the contribution nurses made during World War I, World War II and up to the present day. Last year I took on the Board Chair role for @foundationbcs, our school district foundation, and it’s been some of the most rewarding community-centered work I’ve done. In addition to funding innovative academic programs, we are placing a big focus on social and emotional learning and are launching @Yale’s #RULER program district-wide. The fundraiser we hosted last week to support this program was magical. I was blown away, but not surprised, by how our community came together for a common goal – giving our children the tools that will help them cope with social and emotional experiences. ❤️ This goal has truly unified our entire community -- with friends from every one of the seven schools in the district in attendance 🙌 . If you believe that your thoughts have something to do with your destiny, and you cant think greater than how you feel, or feelings have become the means of thinking by the very definition of emotions youre thinking in the past, and for the most part, youre going to keep creating the same life. Most people get out of bed on the same side, they go to the toilet, they get a cup of coffee, take a shower, get dressed, drive to work the same way, do the same things, see the same people, push the same emotional buttons, and that becomes the routine, and it becomes like a program. This is how people loose their free will to a program, and theres no unseen hand doing it to them... So when it comes time to change, the redundancy of that cycle has become a subconscious program. So a person can say within their 5% of their conscious mind: I want to be healthy, I want to be happy. I want to be free. But the body is on a whole different program. So then how do you begin to make those changes? You have to get beyond the analytical mind because thats what separates the conscious mind from the subconscious mind is the analytical mind. And thats where meditation comes in because you can teach people through practice how to change their brainwaves and slow them down. And when they do that properly, they enter the operating system where they can begin to make some significant changes. So most people wait for crisis, trauma, disease or diagnosis. They wait for loss or some tragedy to make up their mind to change. And my message is, why wait? You can learn change in a state of pain and suffering or you can learn change in a state of joy and inspiration. What meditation are you currently practicing? A major national study led by experts from Bristol and Nottingham has found that oral antibiotics are just as effective as intravenous antibiotics in killing a common germ that causes dangerous complications in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. The study looked at the effectiveness of the two types of treatment in tackling Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which causes a chronic destructive lung infection in CF patients and which cannot be eradicated unless it is caught in the early stages. Dr Simon Langton Hewer, a consultant respiratory paediatrician at UHBW, and chief investigator of the study with colleagues at the University of Nottingham, said: “Our study found that traditional oral antibiotics are just as effective as intravenous antibiotics, which means that CF patients who have a new Pseudomonas aeruginosa can be treated at home and saved the inconvenience of having to be admitted to hospital for treatment.” Adele Farrow’s daughter Niamh (pictured), who is aged 13 and who has cystic fibrosis, took part in the trial. Solving the daily sudoku In the morning newspaper, Flicking the pen in the valley between my fingers, Reminds me of his slender fingers, planting flowers with the magic of intertwining ours together. I open my wardrobe To take out a blue pleated skirt, And the image of his skyblue eyes Gets painted on my retina. Recalling which, I rapidly blink to control the breaking of a dam. I prepare my breakfast, Toast with a cup of tea Which turns out to be burnt As I was lost in thoughts about, How my brown breakfast Matched his perfectly tanned cinnamon skin. I see my reflection in the mirror, Admiring how the electrons lost themselves to form the oxidised jhumkas I was wearing, I recall losing my heart To form an adorable love story. I thought I needed him, The way I need oxygen, Instead he was the one which left me tarnished, just like my jhumkas. As the day comes to an end, I wrap my fingers around a hot cup of cocoa, the warm sensation soothing my anxious nerves. It reminds me of his arms wrapped around my waist, Comforting me after a long tiring day. I glance outside the window and see the sun bidding goodbye to the sky, I get a flashback of your farewell. The hub was opened by The Lord Mayor of Sydney, @clovermoore The opening of a hub in Darlinghurst allows for daily access for individuals in vulnerable situations. Not limited to the homeless or unemployed but also open to victims of domestic abuse, indigenous communities, refugees and asylum seekers. This is an authentic retail experience for vulnerable and marginalised individuals who will be invited to access the hub to browse, try-on and select the clothing that meets their style and circumstances – without judgement and at no cost. The hub is by appointment, which is managed via ‘gift card’ invitations from caseworkers or by direct contact with Thread Together We are extremely grateful to @toga_group and AsheMorgan for availing the space and @storepro_projects for the fit-out. Last night I dreamed we published our blog. I also dreamed our Mexican Corgi ate one of our chickens. Fortunately, only one of those things actually happened, thanks to Forest who caught Chorgi before she gave him a lesson on carnivores. Hes been wondering about that. Anyways...THE BLOG IS UP!!! And we are excited! Also a bit tired, since we stayed up late, celebrating and squinting a lot because our contacts were really dry. So far I’ve posted baby Grace’s home birth story (if you’re into that sort of thing), our trip to Connemara, a cake recipe, and a story about a guy I knew who never stopped growing teeth. What a difference 4 years makes. 2 photos of me and my boy. Exactly 4 years apart. If only I knew then what I know now eh ☺️ I think becoming a parent for the first time is a shock for anyone, let alone having a pre & post natal struggle thrown into the mix. Everything you knew before little one pops into the world feels like it’s been thrown in the air, kicked about a bit, then landed all in the wrong order. Well, that’s how it was for me. I didn’t know whether I was coming or going for a loooooonng ass time. But here I am. Here WE are. 4 years to the hour since I became ‘mummy’ and my life became all the better & richer for it. I learned how to love, how to be a mum, I’m still learning the mum bit every day - it doesn’t happen overnight. And that’s ok. I can wholeheartedly say that despite his ‘minx’ moments (I could call him worse but I’m being nice, it’s his birthday 😉) my cheeky, loving, chatty, sparky, artful, kind Enzo is the best prezzy I could have ever wish for 💕 and I love him. It wasn’t just Squeak’s birthday party on Sunday, it was also her christening. She wore the same christening gown that Pop wore, that I wore and that my mum wore (swipe 👉🏻). It’s very old, special, and delicate. Perfect for a sweet little Angel dolly. And also for a complete and utter lunatic who spent the whole service laughing, jumping, squealing and giggling. Same same. It was a beautiful service by the same delightful Reverend who christened Thud and Pop. My sister is her godmother (she’s also Thud’s because she’s greedy like that), my two spunky nephews stepped up to be her godfathers, and the best part of the service: Thud standing up the front, reading a Psalm to the congregation. My little boy who, not long ago, could barely say hello to his own grandparents, now standing up in front of a crowd, reading aloud with confidence and a big loud voice. I cried. A lot. It was such a big deal for me. Not for him though. All he wanted to know was if there were more than 28 people in the room because then it would be officially more than in his classroom when he’s doing his news. About a week ago, my Grandma Vicki passed away. I don’t have a picture with her since 2007 {my wedding} because she did not like her picture taken!. She was definitely an opinionated thing and she made her opinions known. She wasn’t subtle at all. My family calls me “little Vicki” because there are so many traits that I have inherited from her. I used to think it was a little bit of a bad thing… she was moody, a bit bossy and stubborn and I saw all of those things in myself and I didn’t like it. But over the past year, I’ve decided to take it as a compliment. She was a strong woman who fought for what she wanted all the way up until the end of her life. She worked hard her whole life and lived a modest lifestyle… maybe even a little cheap as I can remember her collection of coupons she’d clipped for her groceries each week. She loved my grandpa so much and was a wonderful wife. She loved owls BEFORE they were cool… literally hundreds of owls in her house. Her sunroom was PACKED with plants… again before they were cool. So while she definitely had her weaknesses that we can all point out, I think I’d be ok being categorized as a strong, hardworking woman who loves her husband, collects owls and has a plant obsession. I’ll miss her a lot and I’m sad that my sons don’t get to know her. I’ll miss playing candy crush and comparing what level we were on… she definitely was always ahead of me. I pray she’s in the arms of Jesus and feeling no pain right now, probably being a little stubborn and bossy up there but overall in no pain living out eternity in peace. - @kristi.zobrist on Instagram

Its a blessing to have a husband who cooks (and cleans and takes care of the kids and...and...). ☺️❤ We dont follow any special diet strategy or fancy eating philosophies. We simply eat good, wholesome food with a few basic rules: as many different plants as possible, as many raw foods as possible, as little processed food as possible. Today its fresh-caught Atlantic salmon, quinoa, beans, mixed salad and (not pictured) a @sambazon-fueled açaí smoothie. Today I recommit to myself. This is hugely important. As a mom and wife I constantly find myself putting me last. I get everything else done for my family first leaving myself the last ten minutes of the day when I’m exhausted to do my work. My body is suffering postpartum. Two weeks ago I threw my neck out really badly and therefore my PT exercises for my prolapse and diastasis recti have been completely neglected. I am feeling it. As of today that changes. Every morning I intend on starting the day with a quick journal of my daily intention, goal and gratitude. This small acts gets my mind clear and is a task I can do with a wild toddler awake. I woke up a little earlier today to accomplish my journaling while both kids were still asleep and Mike is at work. I love my family but taking care of myself has to come first. Here’s to a great first day. 👊🏼 Now I’m going to drink my coffee and do some PT exercises. ☕️ If you’re a mama and struggling to take care of yourself mentally or physically know you aren’t alone. International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on Aug 31st each year, which aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose. - The opioid crisis has been hardest felt in BC, which declared a public health emergency in 2016. In 2019, there were 1510 drug overdose deaths recorded in BC, which represented 4.5 times the deaths from motor vehicle accidents. People think that there is a force or God outside of them who they need to discard justification or report to about what they do in their lives. This belief is ingrained by religion and cultures that use guilt, punishment, & reward to raise children. The feelings of guilt, fear, & shame enforce beliefs about earning a posthumous reward or punishment. Men create these concepts, not the divine. In my personal journey, I have realized that the divine intelligence that gives life, is a pure loving energy, the source of all life, & the source that we come from & go to before & after we are living this life in this 3D reality. We come into this world to live a life full of awe & wonder, & sometimes we need a wakeup call or we are faced with a dis-ease or trauma that forces us to meet our lives from a different level of consciousness & energy. Our 3D reality is the plane where we practice & work things out. We are born into a certain culture, race, skin color, & conditions that may challenge us in specific ways. People think that karma is something that keeps coming back to you, & you have to solve it as a result of doing something bad either in a past life or in this life. What karma truly describes is the emotions we face in our lives that keep us connected to the same outcomes we create. Our job is to overcome the emotion, so we dont drive the same thoughts & behaviors & live the same experience over & over. Some people do that lifetime after lifetime, & some people do that in the same lifetime over & over. Every day is common for them because theyre caught in that loop. It becomes routine & becomes their state of being. People then think that theres an unseen hand thats causing them to be punished for their behavior. The divine isnt that way. It only reflects to you who you are being. In order to break the wheel of karma, you have to look at what youve been thinking, doing, & feeling & the next time you meet a similar situation, act from a higher level of consciousness. Dont let the old thoughts slip by & have you act out of a program, but act, think, & feel in a different way. That is where meditation can help you reprogram yourself🦋 - @drjoedispenza on Instagram
