Room by Hitaishi Agarwal created for an exercise during Paint With Jaymans Level 1.5 Batch 3 (Late Night). ____________________________ Hitaishi was a part of the third batch of the Level 1.5, the late night batch. Theres a couple things I want to talk about here, the first being Hitaishis tremendous growth in these 10 days. Check slide 8 for reference, from someone with a will to draw to painting thought provoking images - and I havent even put up the best of her work up yet, I want her to finish it quick. The second thing is the interesting timing of this batch, the late night batch started as an option to accomodate those with jobs and busy schedules but the late night timing did bleed into the building of loose, imaginative creative forces. I take pride in the fact that the course is centred around creative decision making rather than pretty imagery, this gives students a reason to think why? before even drawing. I was 9 months pregnant and I decided to deliver on the 7th of May. As a protocol, I got the COVID test done and as luck would have it, I was tested positive. Within the next couple of hours, I was moved to the isolation ward, leaving my daughter behind. I had never slept away from her for even a single night before. There were multiple questions to be answered because the situation was fairly new to almost everyone. We were all trying to figure out how would a COVID delivery happen and what happens to the new born. I was told that I will be isolated for 14 days and I’d get to see the baby once I test negative. Hell broke on me, my brain froze and my heart sank. My family is into pharmaceuticals and my cousin is the CEO of a leading online healthcare platform, so I believed that I had a fair chance of getting the best treatment around and still this was it. The isolation ward was no less than a jail. It felt alone, hot and scary. There was food, there was tea, a jug to fill water in but none of it helped making things better and easier. The same evening when I was admitted, I learnt that the lab I got tested had a history of false reports, and that was my ray of hope. On 6th May, I got tested again, knowing that the previous report was wrong and I was tested negative. I needed 2 negatives to get out of this place that was eating me up, I couldn’t think of anyone but my daughter. The next negative report came in on 7th evening, by this time I would’ve been home with my new born, here I was standing in the isolation ward, crying my heart out to the blank walls and the virus filled sanitised room. God alone knows why this happened but it happened to me and got me to realise how thankless we are, for the blessings and comforts we have and the people who are with us.
