Nellopera viene rappresentata la Vergine Assunta attorniata da una schiera di angeli, la scoperta della tomba vuota ma piena di fiori e il miracolo di san Tommaso che riceve la cintola dalla Madonna dopo aver invocato una prova della sua assunzione in cielo. MAMMA SCHIAVONA, prega per noi! Secondo la devozione popolare la Madonna di Montevergine è la Mamma celeste dei napoletani. Un affetto, quello dei partenopei, che ha radici lontane e che è valso alla Vergine venerata nell’abbazia in provincia di Avellino gli appellativi di “Mamma Schiavona” e “Mamma Bruna”. L’icona della Madonna, che ha raccolto lacrime, dolore e speranze di migliaia di pellegrini, è infatti un grande ex voto, un dono della famiglia reale, gli Angiò di Napoli, alla comunità di monaci. Uma freira foi uma das principais personagens do nosso processo de Independência. Joanna Angélica era religiosa e pertencia à Ordem das Reformadas de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Meses antes da Independência do Brasil, a tensão entre portugueses e baianos aumentou após o ataque ao Forte de São Pedro, onde estavam alojados os combatentes soteropolitanos. Joana morreu por um golpe de baioneta ao tentar resistir à invasão das tropas portuguesas ao Convento da Lapa, em Salvador, em 19 de fevereiro de 1822. Il museo di Montevergine uno di questi luoghi di elezione dellanima, dove il tempo, nel suo ineluttabile fluire, non ha disperso la memoria. Il Museo dell Abbazia di Montevergine ha una storia lunga . Già nel 1764 il colto abate Matteo Jacuzio, raccoglieva e disponeva, in un corridoio sito presso la portineria e il cosiddetto «Chiostro dei Corvi», un certo numero di marmi, in prevalenza di età classica o medioevale, corredandone la sistemazione con unepigrafe che ne celebrava il recupero. Il compito si Jacuzio, dunque, fu quello di trasformare depositi già seicenteschi delle antiche memorie dell abbazia e delle sue preesistenze classiche rinvenute sul Monte e nel territorio circostante in un vero e proprio museo lapidario. - @parco_regionale_del_partenio on Instagram

📍🎨 Masolino da Panicale, Masaccio Solo due anni dopo lesordio, si colloca lavvio delle due opere capitali di Masaccio, la SantAnna Metterza e gli affreschi della cappella Brancacci. Da poco il pittore ha fatto lincontro fatidico con il più maturo Masolino da Panicale. Quando questi si trasferisce a Firenze è quasi quarantenne: sino a quel momento non ha lasciato alcuna traccia di sé, ma in città si afferma subito come una personalità eminente, con il suo stile che ha distillato le eleganze gotiche in figure di costruzione più solida ed essenziale. È un pittore valente, sicuramente più amabile dal gusto corrente. Non sono maestro e allievo, sono due colleghi che traggono luno dallaltro esempi preziosi, in uno scambio che li rende reciprocamente compatibili sul piano formale ma sempre ben identificabili. Non formano una società con una gerarchia interna, ma sono due liberi pittori che per un tratto della loro carriera mettano in comune lavoro e pensieri. - @storiadellarte_ on Instagram

SantAntonio Abate è uno dei più illustri eremiti della storia della Chiesa. Nato a Coma in Egitto, a ventanni (intorno al 250) abbandonò ogni cosa per vivere in solitudine e dedicarsi alla contemplazione e alle pratiche ascetiche per più di 80 anni: morì ultracentenario nel 356. Lopera nella foto, un gonfalone processionale con leffige del santo, realizzato nel 1457 circa da Niccolò di Liberatore detto l’Alunno, veniva portato in processione, e per questo è dipinto su entrambi i lati. Anche dopo il suo ingresso nella pinacoteca di #Deruta, e fino al 1953, è stato impiegato nella processione del 17 gennaio per la festa del santo dedicatario. Oggi vi mostriamo la pala di Martino di Bartolomeo di Biagio, (Siena, 1365/1370 - prima del 26 aprile 1435), Matrimonio mistico di Santa Caterina dAlessandria, con donatore, tempera e oro su tavola. Iscrizione: MCCCCIIII aprile fu il mese preghiamo Dio per chi fa le spese [aprile 1404 (calendario pisano, calendario gregoriano 1403) è stato il mese in cui preghiamo Dio per colui che paga le spese]; liscrizione è ora difficile da leggere ma è stata registrata da Da Morrona. Provenienza: Pisa, Convento di San Domenico; Pisa, Camposanto Monumentale (1810); Pisa, Museo Civico (1906), poi Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, dal 1949. Raffigura il Matrimonio Mistico di Santa Caterina dAlessandria secondo liconografia prevalente dellultimo quarto del XIV secolo, che mostra la santa che si unisce in matrimonio con Gesù Bambino. La Vergine incoraggia il matrimonio, attirando il braccio di Caterina verso suo figlio in un grazioso gioco di gesti. La giovane principessa è vista di profilo, inginocchiata su un grande frammento della ruota dentata che simboleggia il suo martirio. How powerless an emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was! The Mughal Empire was in a continuous state of decline ever since Aurangzebs death. By the time Bahadur Shah Zafar became the Emperor, his real authority existed only within the walls of the Red Fort. The British Resident (representative of Governor General to the Palace), Sir Thomas Metcalfe, kept a firm eye on Zafar’s daily life and frequently forbade him from exercising rights that the Emperor regarded as sacrosanct. No nobleman from outside Delhi could enter the Red Fort without Metcalfe’s permission. To enforce his right to rent from his own lands, Zafar had to make an application to the British courts. He could not present gems from the crown jewels even to his own family members without first informing the Resident, and was occasionally, humiliatingly, made to ask for the return of unauthorised gifts if the agent came to hear about them. Zafar could not gift khilats (robes of honour, symbols of overlordship) on noblemen from outside the Delhi without Metcalfe’s say-so: when Raja Gulab Singh of Kollesur paid a visit to the court, presenting a nazr (or offering of fealty) of ‘a horse and 7 gold mohurs’, in return for which Zafar gave him a khilat, Metcalfe promptly made the Raja return it. A petition was received from Mirza Shoojat Shah stating that a chief had arrived and was desirous of visiting the Palace. Zafar replied that without the Agent’s permission no chief of a foreign territory could be allowed entrance.
