The proposal harnesses the existing connections which make Hyvinkää an important node while finding new seams to connect the station to the city employment areas and recreational nodes in the greater region. Cindy George and Elise Zilius’s ARC 409 project “Slow Urbanism” is an antithesis to the proposed rapid development of Xiong’an, an unbuilt hyper-technologically advanced city, the waste-to-energy power plant is transformed into a sensory public park, preserving the initially proposed green conditions of the site in the city plan. By stripping the plant of its shell and exhibiting the mechanical components, the plant becomes an icon for the city as a symbol of the green ideals of the city. The material products from the waste-to-energy plant as a tangible trace of the process can become integrated with the experience of the park and the temporal pavilions within the light frame above. Together with the established visitor path, users are connected to the byproducts through multiple means of engagement, educating them on the waste-to-energy process and the city’s sustainability initiatives. Tributary Park - Chloe Goldsmith & Callum Coombe For millions of years the Mulumbinba place has been a site of coalescence; a place where things come to rest. It’s from this depository of matter, energy and story, new potentials emerge. Tributary Park abstracts land and ecosystem typologies, and superimposes them against contemporary demands. Scattered across the low lying basin, islands hold memories of this place through the restoration of lost endemic ecosystems. Rain forests, cut from the gullies are superimposed against the Banksia heath, against the Iron bark forests, against the melaleuca swamp. Empire Communities and their collective team wants to engage the neighborhood more on Stein Steel. The team is inviting all stakeholders and neighbors on four dates to drop by for Q&A / Feedback sessions starting this Friday. This will be a casual, social distanced, and a masked required setting. Empire Communities will bring blown up versions of the zoning site plan, elevations of the project, current renderings, and discuss details on the project that have been presented in the zoning committee and neighborhood meetings. These staggered time meetings will allow neighbors to drop by, meet Empire Communities one on one, and provide meaning feedback for the project. Empire Communities and their architects want to hear more ideas/feedback on the overall project, the park donation, answer any questions, names for the project, and other meaningful ideas. Expansion plans have been revealed for Manchesters Space Studios, which will involve the development of two new 20,000 square foot stages at their West Gorton site. The film and TV facility has announced the exciting plans today, which would see it grow its footprint to cover 105,000 square feet of stage space - and with the opening of supporting accommodation, would grow Space Studios to cover a total area of 17 acres. Recent successes for Space Studios have included hit drama Devs, which was broadcast on the BBC and FX on Hulu. Design by MVRDV ! 𝙎𝙬𝙞𝙥𝙚 - - DEPOT BOIJMANS VAN BEUNINGEN 👌🏽 the world’s first fully accessible art depot, will open its doors in September 2021 at Museumpark in the centre of Rotterdam. The assignment was to offer a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum world and make the whole art collection accessible to the public. The reflective round volume responds to its surroundings. The Depot features exhibition halls, a rooftop garden, and a restaurant, in addition to an enormous amount of storage space for art and design. The form of the 39,5 m high Depot is ovoid, a building ‘in the round’. Its bowl-like shape means that the ground-level footprint is small – maintaining views into and routes through the Museumpark – while the roof is as expansive as possible. The crisscrossing staircases that will lead visitors to exhibition rooms and curators’ studios will also lead up to the rooftop, and the structures in the atrium will eventually hold glass display vitrines. Architecture studio Penda has designed a meadow containing sunken pathways and concealed meeting places, which opens next month as part of Chinas International Garden Expo 2015. The temporary installation, named Where the River Runs, will invite visitors to follow the path of an imaginary river as it winds its way through the landscape. The aim is to highlight that clean water is not an endless resource. The water the dinosaurs drank millions of years ago is the same water that falls as rain today, said Penda architects Chris Precht and Dayong Sun, who have offices in both Beijing and Vienna. But how will global warming effect the natural resources? they asked. And will there be enough clean water, if the pollution and population of our planet continuous to grow as expected? The installation, which is currently under construction, will comprise an undulating grass landscape. Below its surface, the pathways will wind towards a central plaza that is sheltered beneath the grass. Pendas bamboo pavilion could be expanded to create homes for 200,000 people Visitors will be able to enter from three different points. As they follow the path, they will be able to sprinkle seeds over the grass and into various planters, so that additional plants and flowers will begin to sprout. As people are hiking through the landscape and seeding their plants, they take over the function of a river as they bring life to the pavilion, said Precht and Sun. Like the river does in an natural environment, the visitors become the starting point in the lifecycle of plants. The 10th edition of the China International Garden Expo takes place in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The Short story: Burnside Skatepark needs your help. The county is replacing or rebuilding the Burnside bridge. Please fill out the short county survey regarding the options for a new Burnside bridge. The best options for the park are the recommended options. Long Span Bridge. Total bridge closure/no temporary bridge. Support Burnside skatepark. Link in bio. Deadline: August 31. The longer story: The Burnside bridge has been designated as being in need of becoming earth quake ready. This means it is in need of extreme repair or complete replacement. Multnomah County, which owns the bridge, has held task force committee meetings for the past few years to study and recommend the best option for this project. Burnside Skatepark has had a representative at these meetings, as have other affected community groups. The task force committee has made its recommendations, and luckily, these are best case scenarios for the park. The county is now conducting an online survey, asking the public for input on the recommendations. The park needs your help. Please fill out the very short survey. It’s two questions, with 3 places for comments. The best options for the park are the ones recommended in the survey. Please support these: -A long span bridge. The park will have minimal closure and damage and retain the current layout and footprint. Other bridge options would change, or destroy portions or the entirety of the park. -Complete closure of the bridge. This is slightly confusing wording, but the basic idea is NO temporary bridge to be built. It adds time and money to the project, and it would destroy the south side of the park. -Please comment about why you want the park to continue and what the park means to you. A place to start: “I support the preservation of the Burnside Skatepark.” And tell your own story. The county has let us know that this is our chance to make sure the park remains. They have worked with us, and we believe they do value the park. The recommendations have been submitted, but the final decision has not been made. We need to let them know how important the park is. Moon Dial is a permanent art sculpture that I proposed for Torontos waterfront this summer. Playing with perforation, a series of 13 steel spheres set into Lake Ontario, their shadows revealing the mystic dance of the phases of the Moon in broad daylight. * Going to share some of the background on how this concept came to life and why I chose to investigate the moon for this iconic 100 tall piece (about 8-10 stories) that would essentially change Torontos skyline. An excerpt from our proposal: * Our team is interested in looking closer at the ways in which the Moon relates to the behaviour of water. Some preliminary research into indigineous and traditional esoteric notions of the influence of the Moon reveals that the lunar cycle embodies a perception of time that is marginalized by the solar calendar (namely the Gregorian system, which is actually based on the fixed stars). For example, and perhaps most relevant to this site, the Mississaugas of New Credit consider the completion of each lunar cycle to be a “Grandmother Moon” - a sign that represents not only the creative cycle of the female reproductive system, but also particular plant and animal cycles throughout the year. While many global societies continue to use the Lunar cycle as a key barometer of time (Islamic communities for example), we feel that as Canadians we must celebrate the heritage of the land we occupy by using the platform of prolific public artwork to share these valuable teachings. AI Architects found a laconic solution and created a perfect example of public space improvement in the heart of Moscow. Esse trabalho por ser o processo de fechamento que integra os conhecimentos obtidos durante o curso, me estimulou a desenvolver a temática que envolvesse para além do projeto arquitetônico em si. Nele eu trouxe a necessidade de compreender a cidade para a melhor escolha de implantação do projeto, medidas para facilitar o acesso de todos os usuários ao equipamento, a integração e valorização do entorno em que ele está inserido, além de criar um projeto que proporcionasse um conjunto de atividades com elementos arquitetônicos específicos para cada uso. Para que todo o conjunto adotado estimulasse o uso e a integração social. Well, it’s been a minute. It hasn’t felt appropriate to contribute to the noise. Architecture as a profession feels relatively meaningless in the shadow of a plague, environmental crisis, blatant racial injustice, and demise of our democracy crumbling around us. It’s clear to us, that at our core, we need to do everything we can to help our communities, to affect change at a local level and leverage our skills as designers to contribute as much as we can. In 2019 we began working with several local businesses who are tenants in one of Santa Cruz’s last remaining manufacturing sites, the Seabright Cannery, originally a pear cannery along the railroad tracks just north of the Santa Cruz Harbor inlet. This vision, and beautiful rendering from our friend @plexusvisuals, was presented to the city of Santa Cruz on the very last day of the “before times”, March 12th, 2020. Much has changed since then. The conversation, understandably, had to be put aside for a few months but it’s back on the drawing boards, and we are honored to take part in a project that is at a much larger scale, and possibly impact than the single family residences that we mostly get to work on. - @youngamericacreative on Instagram

2020 A+Award Winners Gallery: Coffee Production Plant - Meama by @khmaladze_architects, Popular Winner in the Low Rise (1-4 Floors) Office Category, Jury and Popular Winner in the Architecture +Concrete category, and Jury and Popular Winner in the Office Interiors (25k sqft) category. . Given the prominent location, the city required a building that would escape the regular factory appearance, and the clients intention was to create a strong visual identity for the newly created coffee brand. The program required spaces that would fit both, coffee production plant with its facilities and office space which would provide variety of work space arrangements, meetings and socializing areas, both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, public areas which would include coffee tasting cafe with small coffee exhibits. . As a response, a regular, box‐like volume of a production plant required to serve the buildings primary purpose adjusts to program components by wrapping around them. It stays high where necessary to fit production equipment and lowers where possible. Same with office, the building shell wraps around work, meeting and rest spaces arranged on floors suspended on various levels. The three atriums as the light wells, and numerous skylights bring daylight to the work and shared spaces below. The atriums are filled with plants to form small green outdoor spaces directly visible from all indoor areas. . The 3,680 sqm green roof acts as an additional thermal barrier to the roof insulation. The roof is intended to grow vegetation found around the site with wild grasses and plants, to blend with the context and require less maintenance. . The Drying Green, named after the industrial era practice of laying out freshly washed fleeces on the grass to dry, will not only provide a beautiful canopy outlook to many apartments but also a welcoming invitation to step outdoors. Anticipated to be completed in 2022 the Drying Green will become the central park for the Green Square Town Centre. The Urban Greenhouse - Spring 2020 project by fourth-year undergraduate students Elizabeth Vera (architecture) and Maddie Rogers (landscape architecture) for Miguel Roldán and Zana Bosnic’s Barcelona studio. “Parc de la Ciutadella is known as the ‘lungs’ of Barcelona that provide a breath of nature to the urban environment. The park is a key connection between the Born neighborhood and Universidad Pompeu Fabra. Inspired by this idea, the design is composed of 3 main elements: container, interior massings, and a system of connections between them. The exterior shell that surrounds the ‘floating’ masses functions as a greenhouse. The container creates a microclimate that not only allows for the growth of vegetation but also nourishes those who inhabit the space. The floating masses serve as a way to break up the program yet are connected by main walkways. The Marcellin Champagnat Building at St Paul’s College was honoured with a Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZIA Auckland Branch award in the Education category. “The building is the first stage of, and important start to the redevelopment of a school campus to create fit-for-purpose classrooms and administration facilities. Sited in accordance with a masterplan that addresses urban conditions and envisages connected open spaces, the building simply and effectively negotiates site levels, and is configured and articulated to acknowledge the road to the south, the chapel to the east, classrooms and arrival area to the west and playgrounds to the north.
